UPDATE AS OF 10:00 P.M.
Cold front keeps moving and our news keeps improving....
Latest satellite and Lightning tracker showing the bulk of the thunderstorms should stay mainly south of Lafayette tonight and even areas of Montgomery and Clinton Counties will only have a slight chance of rainfall exceeding one inch of rain OR ANY TRAINING OF THUNDERSTORMS! This is the news we have been waiting for!
A flash flood watch continues for much of our viewing area but latest trends have most of the 1 to 2 inch rains missing most of our viewing area....at this time I would put areas up near Monticello in the .25" of rain or below....Tippecanoe County area in the .25" to .50" of rain...southern counties...in the .50" to 1" category....but be careful heading south on Interstate 65 toward Indianapolis in the morning....those are the areas that could see the 1" to 2" plus rains...the exact areas that REALLY do not need it.
UPDATE AS OF 4:21 P.M.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR CARROLL, CASS, CLINTON, FOUNTAIN, HOWARD, MIAMI, MONTGOMERY, TIPPECANOE AND WARREN COUNTIES IN THE NEWS CHANNEL 18 VIEWING AREA. THIS WATCH IS EFFECTIVE UNTIL 8 PM EDT BUT WILL LIKELY BE CANCELED SHORTLY AS THE MAIN THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER IS STAYING TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OF OUR VIEWING AREA NEAR INDIANAPOLIS. OF BIGGER CONCERN IS A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL LATE TONIGHT FOR MOST OF OUR VIEWING AREA. ANOTHER ROUND OF HEAVIER RAIN AND SOME TRAINING THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE OUR WAY LATER THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. REMEMBER NOT TO CROSS ROADS THAT ARE COVERED BY WATER.

I hope you had a great weekend. The fireworks show in Mulberry for their 150th anniversary was spectacular. I spent some good quality time with the family and the Prangley sisters had a great time at the pool yesterday. Today you can hit the pool again, but things will go down hill this evening as we are hit with another approaching cold front from the north and west. This could bring training thunderstorms. This is a term which means thunderstorms like to form and reform over the same spot, just like box cars on a train going over the same spot on the railroad tracks. We usually have an expression in this part of Indiana and that is Boiler Up! Well, nature is going to give us its version of Boilering Up and it may cause some lowland flooding. Flood watches have already been hoisted for portions of the area. I see at least one to two inches of rain on the way, but some areas could see locally higher amounts. I will check back with you in a bit. We are still in a slight risk for severe weather and we will have to monitor that as well, but for now it is all about the flooding potential. I will be back to post some weekend pics and I have some stories to fill in for you on Friday's blog. Have a great day and be careful driving tonight and Tuesday morning.

A t-storm watch has been issued already, thought It would be later in the day before a watch was issued, does look nasty in the south west!
If you look at the radar you can see the storm system starting to take shape down in south I'LL, they are moveing north north east so we need to watch these very closely clouds are at 500FT with hail.

What's up for Tippe for later on? Is another line going to form to the west later Justin?
ML
I am not Justin, however the storms are tracking north east from Ill. at this time they are getting close to Iipp Co. These storms shows to have lage hail, and high winds, Getting very close to Tipp. Co. We are diffently not in the clear!!!
Well these storms heve pop up very quick but from what Im seeing right now it look's like the storms are going to stay to the east of tipp co, They are following a cold front which is working it's way to the east as well right now. So I think this is the main line.
Justin in lafayette.
It doesnt look like these storms are going to hit carroll county. Darn I like a good thunderstorm. My question is if its not going to get us then why are we still in the watch? Can someone answer that question for please. Thank you
The areas that are getting hit are very close to Counties mentioned in the watch. remember this is for the entire area, the dew points are rising, which does mean pop up storms. poss strong storms. Did have cloud coverage, now the sun is coming out, which will fuel the storms. Keep in mind this the way El-Nina works.
Thanks to both Justin and to Mike for his update! Hope we are in the clear in Tippe tonight. Not so hot as yesterday at least.
ML
Storms are popping all over the place, and remember they can form in just a few minutes.
Dark and thunder in Laf.............The public swimming pools just closed.
Thank you mike for all the updates we are so lucky to have you as a meteorologist.
Justin in Lafayette.
man i was hoping for some good storms. when is our next chance of getting some good storms?
We are getting a nice little storm now, by the radar more on the way to Tipp Co. They do not appear to be breaking up.
i hope not i love storms. the lighting is so wonderful tonight cant help but watch it. some really nice big thunder boomers would be nice too.
WE are getting some nice boomers! had to close windows for its raining in! take a look at the radar, solid red coming right at us!
I saw some nice lightning tonight on my drive home.It seem like they were a lot quicker than usual and very bright.
Just a steady rain here in Lafayette off 26.
Mike,
Last night on the 11 o'clock news you said something about the La Nina and I thought you said something about it being HOT & DRY for July and August ? I could be wrong since the little one decided to scream at that time, but could you repeat whatever you said tonight and maybe I can hear it then ! LOL
I worry about drought due to family farming, but hate all of these storms too .
We are looking forward to a dry few days. I am going to go to the basement and move things around to and put fans out to hopefully dry it out !
Thanks and keep the rain and storms to a minium - PLEASE for your daughter and I !!
From what I have read about El-Nina,the front it can last for up to 2 years, however this gal looks to last intill mid summer! El_nino is the one that causes the hot dry weather! Dont think he will be arriving soon!
Where is Mike and when does he really work??? running Marathons??? He has Steve take his place during wx storms!!! Has not updated his "special blog" since last night at 10:00 PM, are we paying his salary for enjoying the nice weather?????? What about up dates for the rain coming this week????? He never answers questins that people ask on this blog......
hope the storms are not as bad this year.
