Tornado Watch Issued for Northern Counties

The farther north you go the better chance of severe weather. Those words still hold true and the Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch until 7 p.m. EDT for Benton, Newton, and Jasper Counties. There is also a tornado watch until 10 p.m. for White, Cass, Miami, Pulaski, and Fulton Counties. A line of thunderstorms continues to slowly develop in Illinois. There have been a few rain showers around the area. The main line of thunderstorms may come sooner than later. Have that safety plan ready to go for the remainder of the afternoon and this evening.

Well, the sun is coming out, but I am watching the storms moving to the northen part of the state as of now. Do see a few pop ups scatterd all around. The humidity is on the rise again, did go down with the cloud coverage.

Here in lafayette we are seeing some light rain showers comeing out of the south if I look to the north there is clear skies but to the south light rain showers.
Look's as though just a little rain cloud.

Justin look at the radar, St.Louis is getting hit hard does not look like that one is going to miss us. all is tracking north east. What do you think?

Anonymous said...

Another tornado watch for central Indiana including Lafayette is imminent.

Thats the system I have been watching as well for the way it look's now if it dont die out we my get a bit of it. My map's still say for lafayette the worst between 7:00pm and 9:00pm.

The large storm southwest of us in IL is tracking straight through Tippecanoe county, it has hail sigs, high wind shear and meso's...
I'm guessing the SPC is going to issue a watch box that will include Tipp. county very soon.
BTW Justin...
Hope GRLevel 3 is working good for you...
I'm ready to head to the country to take pics...
You guys stay safe.
Dustin

Really?Another tornado watch for central Indiana including Lafayette is imminent. Where do you get your info?? We have around 50 kids attending an outdoor party, I am worried and wanted to postpone it till Sat. evening, everyone involved is telling this is going to miss us, and the party will go on!!

I got my info from the Storm Prediction Center, both the national office in Norman OK and the local offices...such as Indianapolis, Northern IN, Lincoln ILL, etc. and from just following events as they unfold.

Anonymous said...

Be safe Dustin, are you a storm chaser?

Anonymous said...

There has been at least 4 tornado reports with that system in ST.Louis.

Justin in Lafayette.

Amatuer chaser...
Been at it for a few years.
Ummm
This system has been watch boxed through it's whole track from STL to the IL/IN Border.
When dealing with weather like this it is best to ear on the side of caution, while I doubt that we will see any funnels nearby, I do believe that hail and damaging winds are very likely.
So be safe.

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 475 CONTINUES.

AN ADDITIONAL WW MAY BE NEEDED TO THE SOUTH OF TORNADO WATCH 475
WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO.

THE EVOLUTION OF A PRE-FRONTAL SQUALL LINE IS NOW WELL UNDERWAY TO
THE LEE OF LAKE MICHIGAN. AND...DEEP LAYER MEAN SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW
IS INCREASING TO 50-60 KT ACROSS THE WATCH AREA...AS A 50+ KT 850 MB

Weather radio just went off and tipp is in a tornado watch.

Anonymous said...

We have a pop up system that just formed heading to tipp lafayette so be ready!!!

Justin in lafayette.

Anonymous said...

Just looked at the radar an the brunt of the storm is tracking to Lafayette/West Lafayette. I wouldn't be surprised to see a severe thunderstorm warning for tippecanoe and southern white counties.

Is that arrow of Mike's for a tornado in Illinois right now? I am on the East side by Mulberry, looks like it is headed for us at 6:48 here.

Anonymous said...

Headed out now...target area just east of Dayton IN, between there and Mulberry.
;)
Stay safe

Anonymous said...

Looking at the radar and so far it look like the worst will stay just to the south east of lafayette but dont let your guard down this system can still change drieaction.
Im watching it very closely!!!

Justin in Lafayette.

We are right by Mulberry. No update on rotation here Mike? We have about 15 mins or less now?

Anonymous said...

It look's like lafayette is going to be ok the county's in the path is clinton howerd boone tiption hamilton.

Thanks. Here on 900 East the wind just picked up 5 mins ago. Usually I can't believe the difference out here compared to Lafayette city, we get forgotten about a lot of the time. My neighbor petitioned for a tornado siren on Monitor Hill but was turned down.

the wind here in radnor is bad...my mother made me check for watches

About 15 mins ago the wind was very strong, I let my 75lb dogs for it was urgent for them! They literally lost their balance from the wind, came running in quickley! Lightning and a brief heavy downpour. lasted about 10 mins. I was very surprised no warning was issued. We do have tree limbs down here in Laf.Would love to know the wind speed wind speed gauge was blown off the house!

I was looking at my map's and they was saying guests of 37 to 40mph.
Dont know if that is right on though.

Justin in Lafayette.

Let's see. Mike and his "Precision Cast" said earlier the storms would go west and north of Lafayette. Where did they go? I know you can't always tell for certain where a stom will go, so why would you call your forcast precision? The forcast are only right 50% of the time. Why not call them Guess Cast?

Hey Mike or Steve and fellow bloggers ... Is that it (NOT THAT I AM COMPLAINING), but is there more to be expected or are we in the clear for the night ! Here in Romney we went to the basement to wait out the extreme wind! When we came up noticed that our neighbors across the highway have a large limb down from their beautiful tree ! Hopefully that is it and I can get to bed agin early, but sleep tonight with NO storm dreams ! Thanks All of you ! I say that when we have our first big snow we all have a party - I like snow storms much better - all cuddled up with my rock (hubby) LOL !

Anonymous said...

We could still have a little and I do mean a little rumble but from the latest map's we look like we are ok.

Justin in Lafayette.

Anonymous said...

Justin I am sure the wind gusts where higher than 37-40mph as a matter of fact what we had here near oakland school were not gusts they were straight line winds!!! Strong enough to blow my wind gauge down, would take mighty strong winds to do that. Thank goodness it was not any worse!

Justin...Way to call it from the PC...
Me, I juist got back from Mulberry Rossville area where I was snapping pics when the storm went Severe warned, experienced some heave winds and rain, but that was it... Clouds came down to for a small wall cloud once and then went back up and it was over.
Hard to keep up with a storm moving 50 mph...
Good night all.
Looks like the show is over :(

Dustin, glad you made it home safe, hope you did get pics of lightning! and yes looks like the worst is over maybe :) I know you must love to chase storms,

And I agree, Justin does a great job, I think most of the bloggers love the weather despite the fact the storms get a bit frightning at times.

well I have to admit I did get scared a bit today. I was on my way from Lafayette to Radnor and it rain for a bit hard then stoped. When I got to my moms I got the kids out and then all the sudden the wind picked up bad. It seemed like it got darker too so it scared me and I hurried inside lol.
The winds always seem worse out there.Glad it didnt last long.Hope everyone had a nice day.
