Crawfordsville is slammed with 81 mph wind gusts

I was supposed to be on a date with my wife tonight after the 6 p.m. newscast. So I first wanted to thank my lovely wife for understanding why I needed to stay late once again with severe weather cut-ins and then having to go out to assess storm damage. Without Julie I would not be able to do what I love day in and day out. I will make sure to take her out this weekend and take good care of her! Here are some of the pictures I came back with and I will make sure to post some stories as well after taking care of my lovely wife and family. You will likely see me by a pool this weekend with a much quieter forecast finally here.

I want to thank all the bloggers. We knew today had the potential of getting ugly in a hurry and many times you have to wait to see how things play out in these type of situations. We all knew we were in trouble just before 4 p.m. as those monster supercells were swinging our way from Missouri with an upper-level disturbance. I was watching an amazing storm movement on those cells of 65 to 70 mph. So I could not get back to the blog as much as I wanted to since we started going wall to wall on television. We did our first cut-in at 4:25 p.m. to make sure everybody was ready.

Good job to all the bloggers of updating the latest weather conditions and also keeping everybody as calm as possible. Justin, my man, hey dawg, check this out, you did a good job on updates when I was busy with my on-air duties. I think you just proved you have a future in not only storm chasing but someday being a meteorologist! That is my best Randy Jackson impersonation I can do, but really....my hats off to Justin. Even Scaredy Cat seemed to come around a bit. She will have to meet my middle child who does not like ANY storms and just a little bit of thunder sets her off. My goal is for Abbey and Scaredy Cat to learn how to remain calm. Remember as long as you are alert and in your safe location your chances of ever getting hurt during severe storms is very small. How can you not feel safe after coming to this blog and getting tons of support from the BEST BLOGGERS ON EARTH! Have a great weekend weatherwise and otherwise. :)

We were disappointed by the lack of computer updating last night, sorry to let you know Mike. I am not a tv watcher at all, and did not have it on, I was depending on the computer for updates. I certainly can't just sit in front of it waiting for pop-ins. My computer, I can do other things and keep popping on and off fast. I am glad things here were not worse. Of course I hav my weather radio also, and if it did sound off for Tippe we would have hearded for cover. Thanks for the info last night Justin.

Yay, fellow bloggers for the kudos from "our man, Mike"!! This is an awesome, interactive blog which is great!

I HATE storms but to deal with them I study and follow everything I get my hands on and am constantly learning about severe wx. I especially don't like them at night when I can't see the sky. Together we get through it and thank God for Mike and all those who can "read" conditions to keep us informed.

Mary Anne in Rem where it is soon going to storm again.

I feel the same way Mary Anne. I dont like the storms at night since you cant see. I have gotten better with my fear than I used to. At least I hope.I keep telling myself that if I learn more about storms and things to look for that it will help. I think I heard thunder here in Lafayette.

Re: lack of computer updates.

I agree with the previous poster. I am not a TV watcher at all, in fact I don't own a TV. Last Friday was hard for me (was that when we had the warning and the siren went off?). Without TV it's hard to know what's going on but I do have a radio and a friend with TV kept me updated. In any event, maybe Justin (like last night) could keep those of us without TV updated via computer.

Other than that thanks for all the work!

Hey Justin, looks like it might get nasty the first of next week!
So we will all be busy again.

Looks like these little storms today just dont want to let up as of yet! I want to go outside and play, however just way too wet. The pond I like to fish in the dock is underwater!!!Darn,

Did you ever find out what this highest wind was for the Laf, area, I feel like it had to be at least 65mph. My mother was out when the storm hit and she could not even open her car door due to the wind, she stated that is the first time that has ever happened to her!!!!

Sorry I dont know the actuale wind speed as for later next week we will just have to wait and see when it get's closer I mean we all have seen how these storms did they were all over the place this past week!

The sky is somthing! Does anyone know what the lower lighter clouds that are moving at a high rate of speed are called? They almost look like smoke below the higher level clouds that dont seem to moving fast at all. Looks wild, moving so fast!

I was searching and all I can find on that tipe of cloud is it might be Altostratus clouds gray to bluish clouds that form a thin veil over the sun or moon if the cloud's gradually darken and blot out the sun precip will follow.
I dont know if that is right but it's all I can find.

Just got back from Tippe mall, got drenched in downpour. It is currently only 70* out, so this is the low for today Mike with a high of 88* still or what? We were all wearing shorts before we got drenched, now home and all in warmer clothes!

Mike, can you give us some details on what is happening in Wisconsin? I saw that they are having severe weather with 100 mPH straight line winds and tornadoes.

I've been watching the Indy channels (thanks to whomever mentioned it here) and whatever flooding we had in Jan/Feb is nothing compared to what these people are dealing with! Such a massive area has been hit, AND the possiblity of more storms before this disaster is over!

Anonymous said...

I agree, the floods are horriable, yet any flood is, but if those damns fail, one already has, we will see somthing most living today have never seen!!!! Lets hope the storm for Mon and Tues. go away! I am the one who suggested all watch, for its heart breaking! I have family in Bloomington and so far so good for them! WE THINK!
