The First Snow of the Season Likely Tonight

I write to you in the wee hours of the morning because you guessed it...snow is in the forecast. Who can sleep at a time like this! Do you realize nature still owes me over 1,000 inches of snow from when I was growing up in Maryland. That is right, big snows would always miss my house many times by less than 90 miles. The Appalachian Mountains would be a winter wonderland while I was stuck many times with heavy rain. The Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean would modify those arctic air masses the farther east you traveled in an instant, especially with a due east wind. Now if you multiply the snowfall I missed out on over 18 years while growing up in Maryland it comes out to over 1,000 inches of snow. Why do I love snow? There is your answer. One of the reasons I wanted to be a meteorologist was because I loved to forecast snow. Well tonight my dream comes true. Nature makes up for lost time. We have an Alberta Clipper moving our way with plenty of cold air in place and a great storm track toward Terre Haute. It will be a quick-mover so be ready. You can see your snow timeline above.

The excitement is in the air. There is nothing like your first snow. Now I do not expect it to be a big snowstorm but it will likely cause slick roads and there will be blowing and drifting snow with wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph by Wednesday morning. School delays cannot be ruled out so make sure to tune into WLFI for the latest. I can already smell that pizza now! Some lucky viewer is about to win a free year's worth of pizza from Mad Mushroom. I cannot wait to shovel our golden snow shovel contest winner's driveway or sidewalk. I have been lifting weights in anticipation since August. I am the Rocky Balboa of snow shovelers at this point. I am a lean mean snow shoveling machine. Last year our winner came from Attica. This year we will have to wait and see. Here are the snow amounts I am expecting above. I will make sure to have an update with the very latest maps tonight on the newscast and try to get at least a few winks of sleep. Have a great day and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....

If we get the snow forecast for this clipper I will miss the snow shoveling experience performed by you! I guessed Dec 12th, I think. I wanted to see you come to Remington! I wanted you to meet all your "fans" up this way!
