It was a gorgeous sunset this evening with only manmade clouds in this picture from a plane's contrail and a smoke stack in the distance. This tranquil scene would usually mean we have a nice night on the way, but with all the rain we have had we will have to be on the outlook for patchy dense fog. Here were our final rain totals which is one key ingredient you need for a thick fog to form.
Join me tonight for an update at 11 p.m. on the fog. You see the other two ingredients coming together on the map below which includes high pressure bringing clear, crisp, and calm conditions. This will allow good radiational cooling to take place and it will easily condense out all of the leftover low-level moisture from last night's rain. Be safe and I will check back with your fog timeline here on the blog. I cannot rule out school delays tomorrow but again fog is a tough thing to forecast and if the wind stays up just a little longer and we have enough of a surge of dry air move in the fog would be more patchy and not nearly as dense. It will be something I will monitor for you throughout the evening.

Mike, thank you for your updates on the potential, dence, (patchy) foggy conditions for Thursday morning. You gave us a fair warning, I for one will be giving a few extra mins. for my commute to work, just in case.
Sorry to say I will not be awake to watch the 11:00 news. Off to bed for me. Morning will be a surprise:)(
