Icy Spots Reported in Frankfort & Crawfordsville, Rest of Area in Good Shape

Hello, you bet I am still awake. In a La Nina pattern you just do not get much sleep if you are a meteorologist. As of 1:30 a.m. we have had a nice break in the freezing rain, sleet, and snow. This is great news. We had a quarter to half-inch of snow around many parts of the area with most of the freezing rain and sleet reported from Fountain County through Montgomery, Clinton, Howard, and Tipton Counties. We have had reports of isolated pockets of up to .10" of ice.

The forecast models in tonight are still verifying that our area is going to stay on the northern fringe of the weather system keeping us from seeing the worst. Most areas have stayed under .33" of rain which will help keep tame the rivers and allow only minor flooding and this includes Carpenter's Creek in Remington and the Tippecanoe River just south of the Oak Dale and Norway Dam. Even better....we will stay under the critical quarter-inch of ice accumulations. Breezy conditions and a quarter-inch of ice can certainly cause power outages, but I just do not see any widespread and heavy enough icing for that to happen. I think most of us will see close to .10" or less of freezing rain with maybe a thin sliver of .20" of freezing rain from Crawfordsville to Frankfort to Kokomo....so be careful traveling. It may be okay on the roads in many areas but it can do downhill in a hurry even on the Interstates. Do not be caught off-guard traveling from Lafayette to Indianpolis. Also be very careful on those sidewalks. The toughest part may be just walking to your car. Snow still looks like it could increase across the area by Tuesday afternoon and evening with a quick burst of 1 to 3 inches.

Well, that is all for now. I will check back in the morning. Be safe, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite!

I live just south of Dayton and I see no snow here, just ice. There is a definate layer out here on the ground. Infact, my dog was slipping and sliding around on the sidewalk. Needless to say I had a good laugh first thing this morning.

Thanks for staying awake just to keep us all posted. I know some people aren't grateful, but I sure am!

Both of my parents are now deceased but when I was growing up, everynight when we would go to bed they would tell us to "sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite". I love that reminder of them!!

Have Dish Network and rely on Wlfi web page to get my local news and my weather. I have to contend with all Chicago stations for my news, weather and programs. Local channels are extra!
Thanks for your blogs Mike,I depend on them alot
