Nature Takes the Sledgehammer Out on Autumn This Week

Yours Truly & Sportscaster Gage Butterbrodt

It was a wonderful weekend. Anytime you can come out with a victory against college football's most storied team no matter what year it is you have good reason to celebrate. The pre-game forecast I give every week out at Ross-Ade is always a lot of fun. I had to outdue the "Irishman" or Notre Dame's mascot who was doing his own skit for ESPN. I am not the Boilers mascot of course but I wanted to make sure your local meteorologist held his own. No, I did not wrestle the Irishman to the ground like many would want me to do, although that would have been too easy, but I outwitted him. I made sure I took care of business and did the Boilermaker version of rock-paper-scissors. Only I called it rock (football), shamrock (Irish), sledgehammer (Boilers). Welll we all know it is true...Boiler sledgehammers always cut through and shred Irish shamrocks!

Alan Karpick & Larry Clisby

It was not only a great game, but a beautiful day as you can see above. Alan and Larry were all smiles during the pre-game show we televise before every game only on WLFI. Alan and the Cliz as we call him always do such a great job and they broke down the Irish to a tee. The Boilers came by and gave them some high fives and as always Cliz inspired the guys to make it happen. What a finish to September! Hopefully you liked the September finish because October is coming in just where September left off. You can see below how stifling September was!

We had the third warmest September since 1954, so you were correct if you thought nature is about 4 to 6 weeks behind schedule. Dena Flanagan's picture above sums up September. We had beautiful sunrises and sunset due to all the warm, tropical, hazy air in place.

Get ready for more great sunsets and sunrises! Make sure to tune in tonight for the latest on our start to October that will feel and once again look more like late August and early September. Yes, that is right nature is getting out its own sledgehammer this week on autumn and is once again going to the beat of its own drum. We will once again have near record highs possible by late week. Now it is still way too early but this warm weather could trigger thunderstorms both Tuesday night and early Wednesday and once again this weekend.

We are now in our second severe weather season through November and will have to watch them carefully. The Purdue-Ohio State weather forecast is also coming your way and it may include fireworks on the field and in the sky. Hopefully the maps slow the front down so the Boilers can just get down to business and win! The good news is that temperatures will be nice and warm. The warmer the temperatures the better chance for victory as I wrote about on the blog last Friday. Have a great day.
