A Great Weekend for the Blimp, Boilers, & Breaking Record Highs

You know it is a big weekend when the blimp is flying over Lafayette and West Lafayette. This was the scene yesterday that we captured on our tower cam. The blimp has not been in town since 2004. As Tiller has told his team, the more wins you have in a season, the bigger each game becomes. Well, it doesn't get much bigger than this or hotter than this in October. The picture above tells you a lot about what is happening. Notice the July haze that is hovering over the skyline. Yesterday it not only felt like July 4th, but it looked like it. Check out these highs from yesterday!

It was as hot as a firecracker out there and it is only going to get hotter! I compared these temperatures with July 4th of this year and I was amazed that most of the temperatures you see above were identical. So Happy 4th again everybody. The only thing we are missing is fireworks! But do not worry we will have plenty of those on the football field this weekend. The sports department is very busy preparing for perhaps the biggest weekend for Boilermaker football since the Rose Bowl. Folks are coming from all over the country for this one and apparently some tickets for the game are going for more than actual Super Bowl tickets. One ticket was available on E-Bay for over 500 dollars!! I think you will see more about this on our newscast tonight, so make sure to tune in.
You think that is incredible...what will the forecast be like? It will be a weekend of first downs for the Boilers and many firsts for nature in October.

It could be the first October weekend with both weekend days reaching 90 or above. We have never had a heat wave in October or three consecutive days of 90 or above, and that could change over the next 3 days. It is also looking more likely that it will be the first time ever above 90 in October which means we will set a new all-time monthly high record. We will also challenge daily record highs. Here they are: October 6th (90 in 1946)....October 7th (90 in 1946)....October 8th ( 90 in 1963). All of these daily record highs are in jeopardy. In 111 years of record-keeping we have only reached 90 degrees 7 times. We could easily add three to this number! You see the picture above of sunscreen bottles. Make sure you take those with you if you are tailgating tomorrow afternoon. A sunburn is possible in as little as 30 minutes.

This is like the Super Bowl for me this weekend. This makes all the headaches of forecasting worth it. Folks are flying in from all over the country just for the game. If you are in town from Texas or Florida you will feel right at home. So without further adieu, here is the biggest forecast I have put together since forecasting the blizzard of 2007!

Yes, the Boilers and fans will be smelling the roses if we can pull off this win. My final prediction for the game is the Boilers 31 Ohio State 24. You can certainly wear the shorts during the game with temperatures ranging between 75 and 80 degree. One more interesting note...with mostly clear skies look to the horseshoe side of the stadium at 8:42 p.m. The International Space Station will be passing overhead for a couple minutes. It will look like a bright shooting star moving in slow motion. Here are the particulars!

We will have bright stars in the sky and on the field that is for sure. I have not been this excited about a Purdue game since our Rose Bowl year and it can not get here soon enough. Remember Boilers by 7 and here will be the final score on nature's scoreboard. We should get the victory for the hottest October weekend ever.

Have a great weekend bring on the heat and game on!! We all know Buckeyes do not like hot weather and will not do well on our Bermuda grass. The weather is on our side this time and we have the players to stun the country!
