Slush Puppy Storm Not Done With Us Yet!
I think this describes what is going on well! I just got off the phone with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis and our ice storm warning will likely be downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory....ice accumulations have ranged from .10" to .20" of ice over most locations. Here at WLFI we have .14" of an inch of ice. How do you measure ice....go find a tree branch and hold your measuring stick out in front or hold it against the base of the branch to get a reading. Find four or five trees and average it out. Our snow board is not doing a good job at this time. I am calling it the slush puppy storm because we had a layer of snow, then some ice, then some more ice with a lot of rain on top of it. So travel is very tricky at best. Our videographer just came in and said that streets are turning into lakes due to this weird mix. It is like we have all these little ice jams causing big problems and of course the ground is still frozen so the water has nowhere to go. It is a good thing we have had a drier than average autumn or this could have caused some major flooding. I will make another call or two and check back with you. We got our first lightning reports in the area at quarter to three. Check it out above!

I wonder if the schooolshere in Lafayette will delay or just endanger the kids in this stuff. Love the updates Mike. Stayed up with you through all the storms last winter and read the blog. Very informative and exciting for alll of us.
Yay for Mike... staying up late with all of us "nuts" and keeping us informed :-)

The first report of power outage here in Rensselaer...it is ugly out there.
Sure appreciate your up to date news. Seems like more ice up north where I am but raining now.
Thought I would post this link so you can keep track of current power outages in Duke Energy's coverage area...

Getting ready for bed in Rensselaer...I live on the east side of the city and have power...my friend just called and said he lost power (central part of the city)...the freezing rain is still coming...i have heard a few gusts of winds which I wasn't expecting...actually caught me off guard...wishing everyone a safe night...stay warm
Well guess we did not make it without the power going out some where!

Has anyone been out driving in West Lafayette/Lafayette yet? I have to get to the airport this morning and wondering how roads are.
3:56 a.m. - I'm also wondering about the roads. Hubby works in Indianapolis and usually leaves here around 6:00 a.m. Would appreciate any info.

My husband just went to work and said that the roads are fine and not really slippery, everything is just wet from rain so sounds like the ice threat is pretty much over here in South Lafayette :)
Good to know about the roads. I just heard a plow go down our street a few minutes ago. My son will be disapointed but I'm relieved.
Yeah good thing it is above freezing temps now and for the rest of the day!
