Parade Weekend Features Santa, Wind, Cold, & Light Snow

Now I cannot control the weather but I am looking forward to doing something about it today! Head out to the COMMUNITY FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER on 4th Street in downtown Lafayette today where Stephanie Davis, Sue Scott, Niccole Caan, and I will help to distribute Coats for Kids. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Of course do not forget about the 5K YMCA Jingle Bell Run at 9 a.m. We have parades all over the area with the Monticello parade today between 1 and 2 p.m. The Frankfort Christmas Parade is at 6 p.m. tonight an
d the Lafayette Christmas Parade in Sunday at 2 p.m. Nature will continue to parade more cold weather along with wind and light snow in the forecast. Although Sunday looks half-way decent with lighter winds and some sunshine! Watch out for next week. We could have a big wintry storm in here by Tuesday and I am still favoring mainly snow. Here are a few maps below to keep you updated on things! Have a great weekend!

My kids and their friends were cooped up in our mini-van before the start of the parade last year when we had downpours of rain. Not this year! It looks much better even if we have to put on a few layers.

Will the storm track stay just to our south and east along the Ohio River? That is the question. Right now the model that hit our first snow really well 4 days before the fact is showing all snow for us and heavy snow at that. We will know more as we get closer of course but at least we are ready now for a big storm later Monday into Tuesday.

Afraid what the roads are like, My street and walks are snow covered, and snow is drifting...:((

I am sure jolly Justin and informative Mary Anne LOL! will keep us updated on whats going on their way.

Be careful out there its down right nasty.

It seems as though the snow was underestimated by Mr. Prangley and the weatherteam. I am on the southside of Lafayette and I have about 1.10" in the gauge. It's really windy too!

We were going to do Christmas shopping at 11, but I think I'll wait until the roads get better.

I just checked the radar, and it is showing a bow echo, just like with rain but its snow, is that possiable?????

Here is something from the NWS for anyone who has to go out today! to take note of!!!!!

STATE POLICE REPORTED SNOW AND FREEZING DRIZZLE FROM TERRE HAUTE
NORTH TO LAFAYETTE. THE PRECIPITATION WAS CAUSING SLICK ROADS
RESULTING IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. EXTREME CAUTION IS ADVISED IF
YOU ARE DRIVING THIS MORNING.

I think SLick roads are going to be a main Forecast FOCUS!! Winds today between 20 and 25mph gusts near 30mph at times so YES blowing and drifting snow will be watched as well!

Nathen you should wait to go out, I am not kidding, the road crews have been out, but the roads are bad. Any reports of slid offs yet, if not I am surprised!

Also at time you cannot see!

Hey...most other weather sources are showing our area with little in the way of snow...mostly freezing rain...so, naturally, as a snow lover knowing little about the science behind snow, I am very worried. What do you think bloggers?

Anonymous said...

Was a fun morning for snow, that is if you didnt have to drive in it.

Anonymous said...

is it not common sense to slow down when there is snow or ice on the ground? get used to it the snow is here to stay this December.

Anonymous said...

Who are you addressing, the ones who use caution or the ones who dont, yes get used to it tis December, but those who need to be out are in danger of those who drive too fast.

Just took the dog out and the wind is really blowing that snow! I was up at 6:15 this morning and I was really happy to see a nice fluffy snow! It's better than the wet slushy mess we experienced last week!
I didn't see any freezing drizzle though. We all better prepare for Tuesday's snow! Bundle up out there!
