Big Storm Taking its Time, But Not Missing Us!

The storm is coming, the storm is still coming....it is just running a little late. No, I am not losing it. I am calm and collected. Yes, I have to admit I am a little nervous but after looking at the latest radar imagery to our southwest starting to fill in nicely it will all work out. I have taken tons of calls from worried children and have calmed them down. So let me calm you down, especially if you want lots of snow.

The low pressure is intensifying and slowing down. There has been one model all week that has been much slower than the rest and obviously it is winning the battle. This is the same model that has also forecasted the most snowfall out of this storm. So even though this storm is running late, I am doing my Paul Revere imitation for good reason. The storm is on the way. The newest model data is now starting to come in and I will check back with you shortly.

Why aren't these schools heeding the warning and calling delays tonight??? What a hassle for the morning...it sounds inevitable...they just need to do it! Thanks for the updates. I think I'll just plan my own delay with a strong chance for a cancellation.

I think Prangley's losing it...

Clearly a lot of anonymous people are rude!

i don't think mike is losing it...you can't be right on the weather all the time...people will see when we wake up to a foot of snow in the morning! keep up the good work weather team!

I for one am VERY thankful we have Mike Prangly here in the Lafayette area. We have a great source for information and can depend on him to hang with us throughout any weather issues. I guess some of you have forgotten what you're mother taught you "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". Keep the blogs coming Mike!!

Im sure this is another trumped up weather forecast. They always are!

What's the deal with all the rude comments? Must be ALOT of kids on Mike's blog tonight that have nothing better to do. mike's trying to HELP us here people!!

Mike is great! I love reading his blogs! I live an hour away from Lafayette and commute to Lafayette to work. I can always count on the latest information on this blog. (Channel 16 WNDU does not do this). Thank you so much, Mike and the rest of the weather team for keeping me safe:)

Thanks for all your work, Mike. We appreciate your steadfast effort in this developing storm.

Well, The Prang has been right on the money for the last few winter storms, so stop hiding behind your skirt. If you want to insult someone, be a man and sign your name to it.

Thanks for the updates mike! lets see if we can get enough for PU to cancel classes for a couple hours tomorrow!

Are we still in store for 12-13 inches of snow? I just saw the local forecast on the weather channel and they said that we are only getting 6 inches of snow. I'm a huge snow lover and I'm hoping we are still in store for the 13 inches of snow. Mike what can tell me in your blog?

I hate how Tippecanoe Schools ALWAYS want to be the last to close school. All the other area schools are closing, but now we have to wait all night until they decide to finally give in.

Anonymous said...

Mike knows what he is saying. For all us snowstorm junkies, we gotta love Mike for giving so much attention to it time after time.

Anonymous said...

Hey ding dong...Tippecanoe schools closed at 9:51! Twin Lakes needs to call it now! WE'RE ALWAYS THE LAST!

by far the best weather man this county,or the state has ever had keep up the good work mike.Nice to see people who enjoy their job thanks corey t

NWS weather radio is calling for 10-15 inches...

The Weather Channel's estimates are always out of whack. I remember the tornado that wiped out Venetian Blind, the guy on TWC was laughing and talking about the "little bit of rain" we were getting.

I love the way the Lafayette schools are being smart and proactive in the face of this storm. I wish the White County Schools would get a brain and call at least a delay so that we can plan our day for tomorrow. I am tired of getting a last minute delay or cancelation!!!

I'm not a local, but live here now for school. I'm from Indy, and the forecasters there and elsewhere are notorious for being wrong about the weather. I have to say though that I love reading Mike's blog, as he knows what he's talking about more than anyone else and includes some great pictures and anectdotes as well. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the hard work you do Mike!! I know that I have a little boy who is really hoping for no school tomorrow up here in Wolcott!! Keep the updates coming!!

Anonymous said...

he is never right people, always over dramatizing the facts for all u junkies! get real and get your lazy butts ready for work and school!

Anonymous said...

Mike, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your blog! Keep it up. I love keeping up with it while watching the approaching storm. Trust me., West Side will wait until the very last minute. Us city kids never get a break. ;)

Anonymous said...

Now West Lafayette has even cancelled. Hey White County can you not see the satellite!! Come on we need at least a delay! I am extremely irritated!!!!

Anonymous said...

We always enjoy reading your blog, too. I think we are certified Storm Junkies - right there with you! But we want everyone to be safe....that's why I wish the schools and businesses would do the right thing and not expect employees and students to attempt to go out in these storms. The schools need to cancel TONIGHT (obviously this is going to be a serious storm) - as well as the area businesses. All the late night workers are going to have to ski home! Be safe everyone!

Anonymous said...

Just because I want a delay/cancellation doesn't mean I'm lazy. I just want to spend a day with my kiddos. Is that so bad!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Mike,, " you are definately the Best !!!Love your forecast especially when theres sonw in the picture. Iam a Lafayetter journal & courrier here in white county and we deliver during the hours of 2 am and 6. i will definately be on here later to see what you have to say.

Anonymous said...

I'm not lazy either, but do you know how hard it is to make arrangements for your kids at the last minute when school is cancelled. You obviously do not have kids moron!

Anonymous said...

Wow--must be serious storm if LSC closed! That's a miracle in itself!!

Anonymous said...

To the "anonymous" contributer - no one is forcing you to read - or participate in this forum. If you don't like the way Mike does his job - find another weather guy. But in the meantime, leave the rest of us alone. We are enjoying Mike's perspective. And we would ALL appreciate it if you would keep your ignorant comments to yourself. You have NO idea who are addressing - and calling Lazy. You are just being childish and rude.

Anonymous said...

The real question is how much blowing and drifting do you think there will be, mike?
I go to purdue, and we are ALL hoping for a snow recess.

:)

The NOAA website says a total storm total of 13inches of snow. The National Weather Service says 10-15inches of snow and Mike is say 10-14inches of snow. Why is the Weather Channel say 2-4 tonight and 1-2 tomorrow morning? Why are there totals so different from the rest? Just curious!!!

Actually WL has NOT cancelled according to the "Delays and Cancellations." They are just on a delay you ding dong! (Word of the day!)

Mike and the weather team!

I love reading your blog and you guys are more right than you are wrong, which is amazing for predicting Indiana weather! Keep up the great work!

To those anonymous'...if you want a weatherman who is right all the time ... move to Las Vegas. The weather is boring and always the same!

One thimg i wouldnt mind seeing in future posts are more teaching of how you came up with the storm totals for us laypeople, who may not know all that goes on behind the scenes with radar and satellite imagery. Thanks!

Also finally, i enjoy that you post pictures and stories from those in the community and surrounding areas. It gives your blog a more personal feel to it! Instead of it being all dry and techinical!

Thanks
Jeremiah Redden
