Record-Breaking Highs Bring January Thaw Early!

All eyes are on flooding this weekend. Stay with WEATHER TEAM 18 for the latest. The good news for our area rivers is that the bulls eye of heavier rain is setting up in Illinois. If this map holds true we will only see minor flooding. In fact the forecast crest on the Wabash River has already been lowered to just above bank full this weekend. Check below for the latest advisories. The only wild card in all this is if that heavy red band shifts over us. This would be caused by more widespread thunderstorm activity over our area which I think will stay to our south. Our cold front does not arrive until late tonight which will help stabilize things. We just have to take it hour by hour and watch those radars together this weekend. I still think we will have a few rumbles out there. I will check back with you. The good news today is that we will not see an all day rain. Get outside while you can. Spring is about 84 days away but today it will feel every bit like it!

Just to let everyone know to stay away from Delphi cause the cob pile at the Andersons is on fire. They have rerouted people

Thanks for the updates, now flash warnings are in effect to ILL and IN....ugh

Not feeling too optimistic about the Wabash River - as it is higher than just above bank level (which would put it a little above 11 feet). It is already over 13 feet and we have not rec'd rain yet today. I noticed the NWS did change the prediction from a little over 11 feet that the Wabash will crest back to the original 14.5 feet. We are only a foot away from that prediction - and as I said - we have not rec'd rain yet today.

I know I will be keeping my eyes on the Wabash - as she did rise rapidily.

Been watching that radar all morning too. If all goes well, the severe stuff should miss or lighten up by the time that it gets into Indiana.

Right now, there are tons of Tornado watches and a few warnings. As Mike mentioned earlier, the loss of the heat of the day should help us out.

Gotta get out there and yank all the xmas stuff down before it cools off again!

Anonymous said...

Yes Brow! I to hope the loss of heat will break up the storms!

I do have two models showing the line of storms coming in later tonight around 10:pm or 11:pm! If that would happen it would help!

So we will have to watch that as well!

The NWS does now have us in a slight risk for severe weather!

But the main things we will watch will still be the High winds with gusty winds in the Thunderstorms and Lightning!! I currently have a temperature of 63.9* degrees and a forecasted temperature of around 69* degrees!!

I will keep checking in through the day!

Bad thing is, and hope it wont happen again (just for today), is the sun was out for awhile, still trying to peak though!

With temps this warm and then to fall into the 30"s you gotta know something is going to happen..If we are lucky just wind..

Anonymous said...

WOW that is some line of storms moving into IL, they just stated the storms are now moving E was NE...Hold on gang moving fast! Will be here before we know it

Anonymous said...

I bet a t-storm watch or warning will be issued in the next few hours

Anonymous said...

talk about the clash if the Titans, check out the radars, Kanas which was t-storms is now getting snow.

Anonymous said...

Tornado watch for benton, jasper newton, counties....

Anonymous said...

Yes there is but the good news is my latest models still have it coming in closer to 11:pm tonight! Now we will have to keep a close watch on it and all be ready! Hope for the best but be ready for the worst!

We will have to keep watching!

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Good news, Katie :-)

wow, been watching radars like a hawk. I only have five sites up, LOL. Anyway it is WONDERFUL to be able to walk and drive on clear pavement today, BUT...it is scary at what might be coming. T-storm warnings are out for counties just over the IN/IL border with a tornado watch out for us until 8:00 p.m. tonight. Just because your county is NOT under a watch or warning at this minute does not mean you are in the clear. BE on guard! Oops...getting darker here again, time to check radar once more.

Justin, I hope that's true as its getting closer and closer.

So far I think there has only been one confirmed tornado but that doesn't mean too much right now.

I am too hoping for the best.

Anonymous said...

Just read some storm damage reports and see 4 semis were blown in the interstate near Bloomington, IL and some houses suffered damage in the same area. Wind, not TOR.

Hey I just checked out a few more things with my models and it is not looking like a Supercell system at this time but more of a multicell system. This is good news! Because the supercell has the spin that is a key thing that forms tornados!

Still never let your gaurd down!
and we are now getting those 20 to 25 mph winds and I'M making a geuss on gusts of 30 mph for I don't have a wind sensor!

Hi all..this wx is crazy! Where I am located the sun has been coming in and out, we just had a peak of blue sky. I have a..temp at 67*

This wind is horriable! be careful! If the storms are going to hit I just hope it is still light outside!

feels like easter weather....

Anonymous said...

look at this!!! I have WTHR's weather premium weather and it gives direction, what is in the storm, etc. Just copied this:

Strong winds
Damaging wind potential is moderate
Moving NorthEast at 129 mph

this storm is north and west of us so hopefully we wont get anything like this. it must be directly in the jet stream! The others are moving along at 50-60-70 mph. Sorry for no capital letters I am used to my mail program doing that for me!

Anonymous said...

Teri I agree. If this was in the middle of the night I would be hyperventilating watching this on radar!!

Anonymous said...

Do any of you have on your radars where you can track the roation in a storm? I have that with my radar and I just wanted to say we will need to keep a close watch on that just in case!

Not only do tornados from by the spin of a supercell but some think it has to do with Low level wind shear and strong updrafts and down drafts. As well as in a supercell tornados are expected to take form when cool mid level sinking air enters the mesocyclone. Which is the Spin!

We do need to keep a watch on that squall line that is showing some bowing at times,,

the sun is really shining in lafayette!!!!:(((((

in Il rain was falling at 1 inch per hour!!!!!! northen part

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have a guess as to when these storms will affect our area? This makes me nervous!

Anonymous said...

I would take an ice storm any day over a tornado!!! at least one know just about where they are going to hit un like tornados.. I am nervous over this too

Anonymous said...

Severe ts warnig for northenW counties...be safe mary anne!!!!

Anonymous said...

Just checked the Storm Prediction Center website... a mesoscale discussion indicates that we may be under one sort of watch or another sometime after 4:00 p.m.

I HATE severe weather... my tummy is doing flip-flops already!

OK the timing is being tricky!! All I can do right now is give you an idea! And it can change!

I think Places like Gary IN, Could see some rain / Thunder by somethime around 4:pm or 5:pm.

Remington between maybe 4:pm and 7:pm.

And Tippecanoe between 7:pm and 10:pm

I will keep updating this as new models come in! Just bear with me :)

I saw a rain report of .60 in FIFTEEN minutes. That is some rain, kiddos.

hey, the line is just about to make landfall here in REm and the lights are flickering. I will check in when the worst has passed.

Justin, what radar to you use again that shows circulaton?

I know, I love the temps, its great! I went out and detailed my car all up. Might the last time I would be able to do that in awhile. But, usually in the past years, there is usually a 1-2 day time in the winter when it is warm enough to get me out to do it. Summer, I do it about every 2 weeks. I know, I am crazy.

We will pay for this warm weather though.

Anonymous said...

Ok Here is the latest!

I do see a little MESO But nothing big yet! I think the main thing is wind!

This system is pushing off fast and it is showing signs of weakening

Justin.

Anonymous said...

I agree, Justin, the radar returns don't look nearly as bad as they did a half hour ago, but that doesn't mean we can let our guard down - everyone stay safe and make sure pets are indoors.

Hi Justin, I sure hope this system does weaken, I cant get in touch with my friend who lives in Warren Co.. he always has his cell phone, strange...

the wind is blowing off small branches, and I have seen all kinds of things blowing by....

Be safe..

Okay I am here. Squall line came through here with a wind gust at 49 mph and .25 rain in 15 minutes. Wind is still howling in the 20-30 moh range. I am SO glad it is DAYLIGHT!

Warren County looks pretty good at this time! Again the cloud tops are only between 150FT and 200FT.

Still we will keep watching this closely! Till it passes!

And it does look like it has weakened and that is a BIG +++++ The wind is so bad it is making my weather rodio mess up a bit!

Just be safe and I will keep popping in!

Got about another 5-10 minutes before it hits here in Monticello.

Like you said Justin, it looks like it broke up a bit and hopefully stays on the calmer side of things.

The severe thunderstorm watch has just be lifted on Tipecanoe and Fountain Counties!

I just drove back to Benton County from the south side of Lafayette, hit the storm front just east of Fowler. Got back here to the farm and an empty Fertilizer tank had blown up and on top of another. It had been sitting there for 2 years. So I am guessing we had a pretty good wind blast here. No idea on rain amount, but it is running over the county roads in several places west of Earl Park. Sugar Creek is rising fast, which is a signal to Watseka in a few days.
