Plows on Sagamore Clearing More Water than Ice

Good morning Stef! Good morning Lafayette! You know there is a big storm when we are both here together. She is really full of energy even at 4 a.m. Okay here is the deal....most of us dodged the worse of the ice but not all of us. Here is the latest from Benton County.

Power out on NIPSCo circuit covering north Fowler and Earl Park area at 0345 ET, and continuing.

Rainfall passed 1" at 0400 in Earl Park. Period sof moderately heavy rain continues.. Ice accumulation of .4 - .5". though it appears that it is not building at this time. There has been thunderstorms in this area during the past hour.

C Randy Kitterman

Our videographer just got home and drove to Demotte. The roads are slick but passable. You just have to take your time that is for sure. Power outages as expected are more numerous north of the highway 24 corridor. The good news is I do not see much more in the way of ice accumulation as our temperatures continue to rise. In Lafayette we have risen to 33 degrees. Here is your up to date ice accumulation map.

I want to thank everybody for staying up with me all night. It really seemed like a blink of an eye thanks to you. When you are having fun time flies by. Keep in mind we will still have concerns of power outages with wind speeds picking up over the next hour, especially in those areas above that are in the .25" to .50" of ice. We just got a call of some power outages near Lake Freeman. Be safe and I will check back with you later. I hand the blog over to Stef. She will be doing shows but really appreciates all your comments and weather reports. So keep them coming and thanks again!

Mike, good reports. I was on the streets around Cumberland Avenue in WL at 4:15am and it was, as you had said, slushy. I could not make my car skid, though, even when slamming on the brakes.

Be careful around Lafayette but you'll get there OK.

There is nearly a half-inch of ice throughout Fulton County. The Town of Akron in eastern Fulton County is without power. Roadways are mainly slushy.

East of Logansport we lost power for two hours. Trees are snapping all over, and US 35 is closed near Anoka because of power lines down. Logansport City Police didn't even have phone service for a while. Local Radio Mix 102 reported that at least 90 percent of Logan was without power, but is slowly coming down. We have at least a quarter inch of ice. Jay

Okay gang, the worst of the ice storm is behind us. I hope everyone made it without any major problems. It's time once again to make a wild stab at snow fall amounts. Put me down for one inch on the ground by Christmas.

Wow, REALLY icy out and tons of branches and limbs down in Monticello.

Our power went out at 6am at home but the dang power stayed on here at work. RATS! I was forced to shower in the dark and make it in to work this morning. :p

Remington just got power back on! Went out at 3:45am

By the way, I think that I witnessed some lighting this morning...very strange.

Or it could have been a live power line flipping around like a wild snake. :p

" Northern Indiana Public Service Co. says it has all available crews working to restore over 27,000 outages. The Monticello and Hammond areas were hardest hit. "

Still no powered restored yet in most areas of Monticello.

I will be going home soon to relocate my family into a warm restaurant or walmart. :D

We lost phone and cable this morning. Also, the ice built up on the roof, and then put a crack into one of our sealants. So now, we have 6---yes count them 6!---leaks in one room! On a brand new roof!

We have about 10 big branches down also.

It does look like it is melting off now. Thanks so much WLFI team for helping us stay safe! Seems to me that your forecast was just fine!

Hi bloggers! I am back in action at the helm here in Remington. I see someone from here posted our return to power. I LOVE electricity :-) :-)

Well, the worst happened (power outage and tree damage) but not as bad as 1991 for sure. Since my rain gauge was not out the one on the roof froze over and is in the process of melting so I only have what fell into the catcher thingy before it froze over. I see all around us had around 1.50 inches rain. That has to be what we got, too. And the ice amount would be 3/8 to half inch according to hubby's eyeball.

The damage around town is not devastating but damage nonetheless.

The power went out at 3:40 a.m. and I am sure of that because we have a battery backup for the computers that squeals like a stuck pig when power is out. It came back on at noon today. And I smiled :-) I don’t like it when I don’t have my computer nor TV. I like electricity!!

I sent in pix to MIke and he may post some. We are no worse off than many in the area. There was a tree next door that caught on fire as the power came on with the wire caught. It has now broken pulling the line down with it. Neighbors are out of power again. NIPSCO had 9600 customers out of power in the Monticello area alone and crews are being called in from all over to help restore. The temp is now dropping which is scary as there is still ice on the trees. I have not been online enough to check but last night Mike was saying the wind was to come up. NO!!!!!!

Okay, enough from me....

Hi Mike, thanks for the updates...I know I should be thankful that we are safe and that this ice wasn't too bad...But I can't help it. I really want a big snow...what needs to set up for our area to see one (Lafayette)? What happened to 2-4in. on Tuesday? And, When do you think our best chance for a snowstorm is now?

Anonymous said...

Hi all, just got home from work after a 2 hour delay was called.

Was a bit slow going this morning, and did take time to clean off the car. The side walks were really bad, ice covered with water, Very scary walking.

Glad to hear that all of you are safe! And hope power is restored for all very soon.

I was greatful for the two hour delay for a couple of reasons, the safty of our kids and I stayed up way to late watching this storm. So I ended up with about 4 hours of sleep, LOL, Will be asleep early tonight.

And thanks to those bloggers who voted for my picture for the pic of the week, I won!:)

Well our power just came on after being out for about 12 hrs or so in Monticello. Some homes have still yet to be restored.

Man, we really take electricity for granted don't we?

Anonymous said...

WELL said, Tom, Carrie, Justin and Teri!

Brow....like I said before... I LOVE Electricity. I am like a bear with a sore paw when I have no heat, no electric, no internet and no TV, LOL. you know, all the necessary things in life? I jest a bit but I am much happier tonight that i have power/heat and this storm is almost in the history books. How many times did you reach for the light switch automatically only to realize it ain't gonna happen?? :-)

I am so conncected to the internet when storms of any magnitude approach. When the power went out in the night I frantically tried to get one last peak at the radar but didnt get to see it. I just felt lost that I now had no access of any kind.

The ice has not melted from trees up here and from the forecast sounds like there will be no sunshine to melt so am now worried about the incoming wind with the next system!

take care all,

Mary Anne in Remington

Benton County are ya still here? I have several guesses in mind of your identity. Do you live IN EP? Do you haul grain? :-) I thought maybe a reference to being Asst Matron gave me away to you. Anyway, hope you post more on here, mabye next storm?? We have a great time here on the blog and it is fun to hear what is going on in the entire area.

Ice is melted off most of the trees here in Laf. Alot of of puddles of water on walks and roads.

Yes, was fun tracking this ice storm, and more on the way:)(

Brow, Happy for you that your power is back on.

LOL Mary Anne, We lost power not too long ago, I have a gas stove that needs electric to ignite. I was so frustrated, I went to the microwave:) We do take so much for granted.

Teri, I just talked to my friend in Fountain Co, and she Lost power earlier today! For about an hour!

Fountain Co, 1.037 People lost power but the good news is all have power again!!

You guys and gals are very lucky to have kept your power. I think (know) ours was from limbs coated with ice falling on lines, as well as lines themselves buckling under the weight of the ice. Watching the ice fall off the lines today was fun to watch. nature is amazing! I just dont like dark :-)

How much can happen in 24 hours. Last night at this time we were scurrying from radar site to radar site, or at least I was, and tonight, 24 hours later "all is calm". Now we wait for the next storm!

Thanks Mike and WLFI wx team for all you do!

That is VERY RIGHT Mary anne!

Everybody is calm until the next storm hits!

I think a lot of people are resting with ease! Tonight! I know I will be sleeping in tomorrow! :)

Please, Mike, what happened to white Christmas? 2-4 inches Tuesday?

Anonymous said...

Mike is off for the weekend, and he is not mother nature, you should say please to god for a white Christmas!! Do you All want Mike to come to you homes with a snow machine??? Get real people, Mike only human!

Anonymous said...

the study of weather is a science, no human can tell exactly what the weather is going to do, or what time its going to happen, they only have computers and radars to follow. Mike and the weather team keeps us updated to the best of their ability! Think of the weather like the human body we all know we will urinate or have a bm during the day or night the the exact time we never know, but its in our bodies forcast. and sometime are bodies miss a day or two....or it could hit early or late, large amounts or small, solid or liquid, will it float or sink.....get it folks......

MA in REM Yes, I did haul grain years ago, worked with someone you knew well. Thank goodness, I didn't know you because you worked at the jail, mainly cause you worked at elv and sup

DC from EP in Benton County lol One more hint, what do you throw away when you are done eating sweet corn ?
I didn't get power till Fri evening, but was gone in truck overnight and wasn't even sure till I got home at noon Sat.
