Alright, here is the latest. While there are winter storm warnings in Newton, Jasper, and Benton Counties it still looks like worst icing will be farther north from state road 14 through highway 30. Those areas including northern Newton, Jasper, Fulton, and Pulaski Counties will see close to a quarter inch of ice. The highway 24 corridor including areas of Kentland, Monticello, Logansport, and Peru will see close to .15" to .20" of ice. Here in the Lafayette area we will stay with close to .10" of ice. I will make some maps and check back with you. If you do not have to travel please do not do so. There are tons of accidents and closures even on the main interstates.
The freezing rain should change over to all rain by midnight in Lafayette....2 a.m. in Monticello and 4 a.m. far northern counties.

Thansk for the update Mike! The ice here in Lafayette is sticking to the trees but does not seem to be doing much to the powerlines! Which is a good thing! As long as we stay around a Tenth inch we should be good!
Justin in Lafayette
Thank you for the update Mike! I had a day to relax and watch this wx, I have learned alot about winter wx from other bloggers and from your updates..
Teri in Laf...
Thanks Mike. Glad to have you here with us. I guess I need to fill up the Generator and get it ready. The bilge pumps may be handy this weekend as well. Here we go again. Remington can not take another flood so soon. William in Remington
Approx 1/2 inch of sleet and snow...Got my sidewalks shoveled and salted for the ice. Happy Holidays all and be safe if out travelling.
Richard
Mike, you are correct about the freezing rain corridor. Fulton County, along with Marshall County is now receiving freezing rain. I just salted my side walk, and I had about one inch of frozen sleet/rain on it. It is getting slick. Let's hope the warmer temperatures make it up to us.
North of Rensselaer the ice cicles are hanging off the power lines from the rain. Hope it changes soon to rain or snow just please no more ice. William in Remington
We have lost cable and telephone 2 times for a brief period this afternoon. I don't know why, but it seems to happen anytime there is a little ice. We have a nice little coating of snow, for our beautiful sparkly ice to stick to.
So, Mike and Justin...will we REALLLLLYYYY see some snow tomorrow??? huh huh huh huh??? (In my whiney, little kid voice.) Maybe I should ask Santa for a big Artificial Snow Maker???
Raining in Attica at this time 5:00 p.m.
There are wind gusts of 20mph, and the freezing rain has not stopped in Tipp Co.
I will not post my name..:) dont want to tagged by the blog police that are so quick to judge... Be safe all...
glaze of ice on some of the roads and on side walks
So since its going to get warm enough to be just rain does that mean that by tommorow morning 24 from fort wayne to here will be clear...hmmm lol guess i should check the forcast
renee in laf.
The roads are very bad, esp the county roads. Be careful.

Thanks William for the report on the 205. SIL drove home from 16/231 at 30 mph with nobody behind her in a hurry to pass.
You are SO right about another flood. Did you know DANI is having several memorial services in the state on Jan 8th (I think) to mark the one-year anniversary of the flood? One is here in town at FCC (combined service with UMC and I am sure others) that day/evening. I think that is so important! It is a date not many who lived through it will forget.
Mike, thanks for the timeline here and the 5:00 show. Bad thing about that heavier ice accum in northern Jasper County is State Rd #14 is exactly the area that has had a lot of power outages.
More later,

We are suppose to be traveling from Monticello to the Marion/Hartford City area around 9-10am tomorrow anybody know how 26 is? I dont want to go if roads are icy not worth the risk as i have to be home on Christmas Day or my grandchildren will never forgive me!! :)
if the freezing rain changes to rain after midnight what does that exactly mean for road condtions????
Anyone know why traffic has been completely stopped for an hour or so on southbound I-65 just north of W. Lafayette?
My wife and daughter are stuck on the freeway -- haven't moved in over an hour and no word about accidents or road conditions. They called me on their cell phone. They turned off the engine because they hadn't moved for an hour or so.
I'm getting worried and can't seem to find out anything online from various weather/traffic/IN DOT or state police.
I'd sure appreciate it if anyone has any info on what's going on, on I-65 southbound (they say northbound traffic is moving, but they don't want to risk trying to cross the median, especially to go back north where it appears weather and road might be worse.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Jim
My neighbors are outside sliding on sleds down Hartford St. if that tells ya how slick it is outside.
Jim I hope your wife and daughter are safe, I am sure you know this by now:::

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An accident on I-65 involving a semi and a couple of cars this afternoon slowed traffic, but the road is now open.
And State Police said one lane of State road 43 near county road 800 north was closed briefly after a collision.
Police were also called to an accident on I-74 that turned out to have no serious injuries.
Clinton County police checked an accident on state road 28 near state road 29 with no serious injuries reported.
Police have also had reports of a number of slide-offs and rollovers, with no one hurt.
Tippecanoe County Highway Supervisor Jack Fisher said all the roads are bad. "People need to stay away from the intersections the best they can and let off the accelerator and not drive into them because they are slick because you can not stop on a dime," Fisher said. "The bridge overpasses, there's air on top of the bridge there's air underneath the deck, it makes the concrete very cold and those ice over. And they are right now but we have treated most of them so we should be in good shape."
Justin and Teri and all dont let one person get you down...Keep on posting:)
getting foggy out there! the roads and walks are like walking on ice cubes......it is raing steady in Tipp co.. the tempeture is now at 32
Thanks for the update. Wife and daughter finally got moving again and pulled off the freeway into W. Lafayette. Probably will spend the night there before resuming trip to Ohio, via Indy and I-70.
Thanks again for the info.
Jim
Yes, don't let anyone get you down with negative comments. Tis the season apparently, as EVERY website I check daily has had several negative comments the last couple of weeks. Sites that are always postive have been hit constantly with angry unfamiliar posters. I don't know if it is cabin fever, the economy, or normal Christmas wear down, but alot of people are very unhappy right now unfortunately. This site is a good resource, and I appreciate reading everyone's reports of conditions in their area. Very icy and slick in Loganland as well, but I didn't see any accidents while out last minute shopping, just folks unable to coax their vehicles out of one spot. Parking lots were worst, as we had to help drivers out of their spots by way of good old backwork. Be safe out there if you have to venture out. Jay
You are welcome and so glad to hear that they are safe and have a warm place to stay.
Have a very Merry Chirstmas, and Happy Holidays!!! Sounds like you will be getting the best gift ever!!! your family safe and sound!!!

hi I work on the west side and live on the north side of town and what normally takes me about 15 minutes to get home, took about 25 mins. I only drove around 20mph and coming down 52 hill was a little slippery. What really makes me mad is how bad the side roads are.. they really need to concentrate on those. Also, i have been reading all the blogs where so many people seem mad cause we're not having a lot of snow.. I bet these will be the same ones complaining when we do get a lot of snow!! I for one would be more than happy for it to be 70 degrees and sunny for christmas!! All im saying is that theres a lot more to worry about other than if we have snow for christmas.. theres plenty of folks out there who rather have a hot meal, and money to buy presents for christmas. I work at a nursing home and these folks would just rather be at their own home with their families regardless of a white christmas or not. Anyway time to get of my soap box now.. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday
I just got in a forgot a gift darn it...It is windy out there and still standing water. some sick spots in parking lots...be carful..I am getting ready to venture out shortly....
We are going to a home out in the country...I am worried about getting home...
HAPPY CHRISMAS EVE ALL...
Teri in Laf..
Oh Justin your lights just flickerd????:)))
