Conference Call Confirms Concerns

Just got off the conference call. No surprises. The National Weather Service has the timing on thunderstorms mainly between 9 p.m. in Lafayette to 3 a.m. in Richmond, Indiana. Areas in Newton, Jasper, and Benton Counties can expect storms to move in a little sooner.

Main threats: Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph and the likelihood of downed trees and some power outages.

There could be a few supercell thunderstorms that try to form in the Lafayette area between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. If this activity does ignite the main threats would be isolated tornadoes and large hail.

So the earlier the storms move in the worse off we will be...the later the better. Remember to have a NOAA Weather Radio in case you lose power and when getting to your safe spot you can certainly turn up your TV sets so you can hear what is going on. I will be back with your precast shortly. Stay calm, stay safe, and stay tuned.

Thanks for the update. Looks like we are gonna get it some time or another. Lets hope it holds off until later.

Your updated forecast:

From the Bull/Bear or Right/Left(which am I Mariann??)

Storms are weakening slightly as they move in from west. Daytime cloud cover has limited day time heating and instability. Strong capping and limited instability will keep any major storm at bay thorugh sunset.

More favorable conditions exist for an upgrade from sprinkles to light rain in the greater lafayette Area. Mostly as a holdover from bigger storms to our west that continue to die our.

Moderate storms will pass just north of the WLFI viewing area.

Will keep you posted.....

Oh and I forgot(might as well climb way out on the limb)...

Conditions are favorable for reformation of a line of potentially strong storms froma decatur IL to Cville to Muncie line or near I 70(My equipment is not that accurate). Tippecanoe Cty will be fine, maybe storms to our south and southeast...

As forecasted yesterday.... RIBS are on the grill!!

Just remember folks, these storms can pop up at any time. Our dew points as of now are at 64, dont like that. What about people that cannot afford weather radios, perhaps they should be given radios like the fire dept did and may continue to do so give out smoke alarms!Weather radios are very important!

I LOVE the sound of that! :)

Bull and Bear, I don't know what you're going on but the viewing area is under the gun and will get severe storms later this afternoon and tonight.

Brow,

You do know that I am basically poking fun at the recent incorrectness of the NWS(and others), I have no equipment that you don't have(a computer and a wet finger). I am just mainly making up my own forecast based on saying something else besides what real meterologists say. Don't put your life in my hands....

My ribs were on the grill, well hot dogs and were almost blown off by the 35mph wind gusts that we had, the winds this strong already?

SPC just posted a new MSD including Lafayette...tornado watch likely within the next hour and an increasing chance of tornados and damaging wind later today.

"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!" No they are in Indiana, no matter which county be safe!!!

Gee thanks Bull/Bear. Looking at the radar...looks like some stuff is evaporating so I liked the sound of your posted. :)

Bull/Bear made me do it! Hehehe

NWS has just issued a tornado watch for parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. The tornado watch includes the entire (I think) Lafayette viewing area. This might get upgraded to a PDS later if the situation becomes even more unstable but watch out today/tonight!

we are now under a tornado watch!!!!!

To all the bloggers, we are all concerned, and want to know exactly where the storms are going to hit one can never know! All of you are fun, remember this is what the blog is about to keep each other informed of what is occuring in our wheather. Mikes job is to keep us informed the best he can, he does have the equipment, however he cannot do anything but keep us updated, And Welcome Bull/Bull you are getting the brunt instead of Mike! I enjoy reading your postings. Lets all be friends and do have Plan in place!

Sorry, its Bull/Bear

I watch Mike every night, and I mean no harm. Thus my clarification to Brow. If I am correct, of course I will crow, but a blind hog finds an acorn too. Most likely I will be wrong due to the nature of my contrarian weather 'forecast'.

Weather is not a perfect science, Mike does a great job, I mean no disrespect to him at all or anyone here.

I just wanted to say to you all to stay safe and stay away from lightning. I love storms and I think we really need it cause the lightning helps things grow but I think it is going to get very tricky here later so I just wanted you all to stay safe cause its acomin. Keep up the good work Mike.

Not offended at all...just got my hopes up thats all. :)

UPDATE IN MONTICELLO

Dark clouds are coming and I would say about another 10 minutes before the rain starts falling. It doesn't look scary at the moment but the temps seemed to have increased even more.

Licking my finger and holding it up on the air...this cluster is moving north east and its all in one piece...no stray, low clouds zooming by.

According to my favorite internet radar (click my name for the link), it looks like northern White County will get the heavier part.

ANOTHER UPDATE

Yeah, its raining now. :p

Brow keep safe, looks nasty your way

Brow,

I have noticed a northerly bias to the wunderground radar. So the storm is actually south of where that radar shows(based on their drawing of county lines). I noticed during a pop up summer storm last year. Have you noticed the same? Last summer it said a red blob was over me, but I was outside it was not raining. I could see it raining to the south(I live on open farm fields)....

Bull/Bear

PS. BTW I signed up so others(such as at 3:23) don't steal my name I want credit for being right...of course I will have a weird weather event when I am wrong..(already working on it for today)

Justin, if you dont mind me asking what part in Lafayette do you live in?, I live south central, near the Jeff,High School.watching clouds pushing in from the northeast, not looking pretty at least to me at this time. Be Safe my follow blogger! Mike just said we could get 80mph winds!
