Sectional Pairings Snow Fizzles Out!

It is true the models that were having trouble getting a handle on this system all week long are now playing catch-up and I think we will end up with an inch or less in Lafayette. It is good news for all the travelers. The old Hoosier saying that we get a big snow around sectional basketball time looks like it may not come true this year. Over the course of the week I am glad we were all in agreement with those lower snow totals, but I am a bit surprised at just how much this system seems to have fizzled.

One big reason for this is the latest storm track shifting about 50 miles farther north. With this storm going so far to the north it will draw in even warmer temperatures helping to keep snow totals down. We could wake up with above freezing temperatures tomorrow morning in Lafayette! This is why I am downplaying snow accumulations. Also, I would not be shocked if a little rain mixed in as well. We of course will not let our guard down and watch this system carefully as it moves our way at over 120 mph!!
Strange things have been k
nown to happen. There are winter weather advisories from White County northward. These areas could squeeze out a couple inches of snow. Kids will at least have a chance to make miniature snowmen or should I say a "slushman". If you are traveling north to South Bend or Chicago, those are the areas that have real snowman and sledding weather. Here at home we will have light and intermittent snow. Here is your latest snow time line.

I will check back later this evening with an update...hopefully by 10:30 p.m. Have a good night and enjoy those basketball games!

well, we got our answer from mike so less than an inch of snow for the Laf. area, that stinks

What?! Uuuggghh!!! And here I canceled my travel plans thinking there was gonna be a lot of snow, ugh! Oh well. :-/

Anonymous said...

yep, still think it could be windy and messy! Slushy yuck. I would rather be home than on the roads!

Forecast on precp. amounts days in advance are fun to watch and speculate on, but as an old timer I wait until 10-12 hours before a system arrives to get a handle on precipitation. And then it usually changes. Aint weather watching great.

Was looking forward to the snow, but since I need to go to Purdue tomorrow morning I am kind of glad. Of course, if we got enough snow was hoping it would cancel. Oh well, it figures, we never get the snow forcasted something always changes but it is good to be prepared. Maybe we will get surprised sometime???

What a pretty eve. I know it wont last long:( sitting here waiting for Mike's weather forcast, also watching a young one out my front window, walking their new puppy, they keep moving the small pup from spot to spot, waiting for it to go! So cute, the pup does not want to be on the ground.Wants to be held. Darling!

Heading to Indy for Boat show tomorrow so am glad the snow has fizzled on us! Hate to travel when it is snowing.

Snow lovers,

Pray hard that we will be surprised tomorrow morning and that the clipper will have brought lots of snow and not less, I have seen this pattern before where the snow amount was changed to less than an inch and we woke up to 4 or 5 inches of snow, Mike seemed bummed since the weather changed. Hopefully it will change for him and all us snow lovers.

Anonymous said...

I'm bummed!!

Anonymous said...

I have been watching this clipper along with others, I was wondering about the temps..I am the one who posted the slushy yuck, forgot to sign was typing fast,.

Would be nice for a surprise and have all snow tomorrow! But glad for no snow for tonight, for we are heading out to a BIG BB game..

have fun tracking bloggers..
Stay safe..

Laf Jeff at Brownsburg,,what a game! The weather was just annouced 5 inches of snow forcasted for Brownsburg area, what?? Great BB Game gathering at friends home.. ..will check back!

Accuweather is saying 4.8" of snow, I don't understand the wide difference in totals. Any ideas?

Anonymous said...

I dont understand as well!

Anonymous said...

Everyone has their own thoughts about what the weather might do. It is and always has been a best guess game.

Anonymous said...

By the looks of the maps and radars we are still in a small snow cone, but not a storm zone!

T & R in Laf :) daughter did not want me to sign her words, LOL

Darn I got caught!

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why is accuweather calling for 1-3 tonight and 1-3 tomorrow? Do they know something we don't? they were calling for that earlier and then went with what everyone else was saying and now they have gone back to the bigger snow, i looked at intellicast.com and it looks like the bulk of the snow is more northern, but there is some moisture coming into central ill now, is laf really not getting anything or is this a big trick

Anonymous said...

accuweather just uses computer models to predict how much snow. Some of the time they are right, some of the time they aren't. Mike is a human and can see all of the factors coming together which will result in a very small snowfall.

Where are all the night owls? too early?:-)

Sorry to all you snow lovers!!! I am so ready for Spring. Mike if your bummed its not your fault that nature has its own plan. Its going to go wherever it wants and shift whenever it wants. All you can do is your very best and that you do and very much appreciated.
I guess the sectionals this year will be Winter vs Spring and Spring winning.

wow we've gone from it could be 7 inches to nothing....yet again...seems like betting against the forcasters is the safest bet....

Anonymous said...

I have to believe in our local people. They are doing the best job that they can....I firmly believe that weather is not an exact science. Forecasting has gotten a thousand times better in my life time. I have every reason to believe that with improved technology....forecasting will get better too. It is a TOUGH job at times.

Accu has taken my town down from 4.7 to 2.6 inches today. I think that they are slow to recognize that the low will track farther north than earlier thought. It's sad....I love winter so much....and really love the snow. I am afraid that our chances are dwindling down to nothing!

Mike I will see you all here in the morning!

I still like 1" to 2" for our area. I know everybody is calling for something different but we can only call for what our maps are telling us!

We will soon find out just how much we are going to get as it's falling! ;)

Have a good night bloggers and Mike see you in the Morning....................

Good morning bloggers!

Woke to the sound of sleet hitting the windows, then turned into big snow flakes! The side roads look speckled from the snow, and it did not amount to much at all. Temp in Laf where I am located is 34 degrees. Very pretty out, but is windy and a bit slick underfoot!

In Rochester, it started sleeting between 5:30-6:00 am this morning, then turned over to all snow. The snow only lasted about one hour, and we received what I would call a dusting to 1/2 an inch. It was just enough for the state highway to get the plows on the road.

Beautiful photos Richard.
I have some really nice ones. A friend of mine, who at that time was into wild life rescue, saved a baby eagle who fell out of its nest. A neat story, but I forget all the details. I do know putting it back in the nest did not work, and they tried to build some sort of a stand..well the babe ended up in the rehab center, was fed and loved, and was set free as an eagle should be.

Good morning, bloggers! Wow, sky so heavy this morning we need a light inside to see. Big flakes of snow are falling here with a temp of 36*. I was to come to Laf midmorning but have changed plans. The wind is to come in strong this afternoon with some type precip. I don't want to take a chance so will stay put!

Outside of Kingman, we are getting snow/rain but it is turning to heavier snow now. I'm like everyone else ready for warm weather.Tired of being in the house every week-end.

Anonymous said...

Lafayette is looking wild! snow blowing from every which way! Mostly from the south but when the big gusts hit almost a white out!

Richard said...

This is from noaa for Attica. The snow is starting to get heavier. So we may see that 1-2 inches.

Today: Snow, mainly before 1pm. Temperature falling to around 27 by 5pm. Breezy, with a west southwest wind between 18 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
