One Week & 4 Seasons on the Way

It is a manic Monday on the weather maps that is for sure. All four seasons are clashing and this is forming not one but two blockbuster storms. You can see two classic commas on our satellite and radar composite. They are feeding off of a temperature range that goes from highs today in the 80s in Texas to the teens in the Rocky Mountains. The last thing we need are both of these to hit our area with all of the snow we just melted down. The snow cover legend is on the far right on both graphics.

On Thursday morning when we woke up with -2 degrees in Lafayette we had a snow pack ranging from close to 5" in yellow areas to almost 10" in Pulaski County in the darker blue shading. Every county in Indiana had at least an inch of snow with 25 inches of snow on the ground in Porter County.

Now here was the map as of this morning and notice all our snow has literally vanished in only four days throughout most of Indiana! Even areas of Porter County have only 5 inches of snow left! This is why we have to watch area rivers carefully after melting down about a half-inch to an inch of water in our Wabash River watershed. Williamsport Falls or Indiana's tallest waterfalls which was frozen solid is now flowing again. Richard Beedle captured this breath-taking shot for us over the weekend.

The good news is that we will miss out on most of the first storm as it stays to our west and heads toward Minnesota. We should see a few light rain showers after 9 p.m. with less than .25" of rain. I think the better chances of thunder and heavy rain stay well to our west in the main storm track. Tuesday night and Wednesday will be a different story as we have showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. Many areas could surpass one inch of rain. The question is will we stay under the critical two inches of rain. Anything over this and our rivers could see moderate to major flooding. Already flood watches have been posted on the Kankakee River starting late tomorrow. I will have more answers for you on tonight's newscast along with possible record breaking highs on the way. One other thing we will talk about is also the possibility of strong thunderstorms in our area beginning on Wednesday. See you soon and I will check back!

We are in a slight risk for severe weather for Wednesday however some of the latest models are showing the worst of the storms to our south. Still heavy heavy rainfall for much of the area!

Mike I have Lafayette areas around 1.00 to 1.25 and areas north of Remington in the 1.50 to a possible 2.00 inches. It has to be watched closely.

I still think that there will be a heavy, wet snow in the area Friday into Saturday....

Hi all, just returned home from work..A beautiful ride home with the windows down and no coat, many people are out walking and smiling while they are doing so:)

Hope the rainfall amounts stay low, scary thought of flooding!

Also looks like a potential for strong winds heading into Wednesday- if you uncovered your grills and set out some lawn furniture (hey, it was worth it, if only for one day) better pack 'em up again.

JUSTIN! Keep that nasty stuff out of your mouth! REMINGTON 2 inches rain???? Why us, Lord?? I am teasing people! We take what we get and deal with it, right? Not Mike's fault, not Justin's fault. We take what we get and live with it.

I have been tracking that storm system since yesterday. It is into IL now moving our way, but doesn't look all that impressive at this time to me. Probably more chances tom night/Wed. My gripe is WHY AT NIGHT? when I can't see what is going on!!

I talked to a friend in Paducah this afternoon. What an experiece they had down there!

If your talking about tonights storms then no they should not be! However gusty winds are not out of the question for tonight! So you can expect that. Clouds are only at 300FT which is good. And rainfall will only be between .10 and .20" inches. Maybe some rain in the morning tomorrow but it should pass and tapper off by the time most head out around 7:am. Then we may start to clear before the next batch of storms move in later on that night after Midnight.

Tomorrow night is the stronger storms like I said after midnight. We are in a slight risk for severe weather so we will watch it closely. The good news is currently rainfall is only forecasted to be between .75 and 1.00" inches for the lafayette area and Remington area. Still there is a two inch band north of Remington that we will watch as well.

Justin.

One more thing!

We will be watching tomorrow closely as well for if we do clear out for a while! Then daytime heating will be a problem as I'M looking for a high in the mid 60s. This would be before the storms move in that night.

I think I will get up earlier tomorrow, so I will have time to enjoy the weather! This great, but not normal. It makes it so hard to accept the cold again. I no longer want any snow or cold. It is February, roller-coaster! Spring break is right around the corner!

Here is one more thing I wanted to post. In every thunderstorm there is Lightning! So now is the best time to post some lightning safety tips. This is because lightning is 45,000 degrees F* which is Six times hotter the the surface of the sun and kills more people a year then Tornado's and Hurricane's together! And can strike when it is not even raining which means it can strike several miles away from the storm cloud.Just like what happend to WLFI last year. Here is a few tips below.

WHEN INSIDE:
Avoid using the telephone (except for emergencies) or other electrical appliances.
Do not take a bath or shower.

IF CAUGHT OUTDOORS:
Go to a safe shelter immediately! such as inside a sturdy building. A hard top automobile with the windows up can also offer fair protection.

If you are boating or swimming, get out of the water immediately and move to a safe shelter away from the water!

If you are in a wooded area, seek shelter under a thick growth of relatively small trees.

If you feel your hair standing on end, squat with your head between your knees. Do not lie flat!

Avoid: isolated trees or other tall objects, bodies of water, sheds, fences, convertible automobiles, tractors, and motorcycles.

Using these tips will help you be ready for the storms to come! We want everybody to be safe.

Weather

Weather is hot,
Weather is cold,
Weather is changing
As the weeks unfold.

Skies are cloudy,
Skies are fair,
Skies are changing
In the air.

It is raining,
It is snowing,
It is windy
With breezes blowing.

Days are foggy,
Days are clear,
Weather is changing
Throughout the year!

If this storm is already in champaign IL. Why will we be dry most of the day tommorrow? It must be a slow moving system!

RIchard what rain is left in IL, is going to be moving through our area tonight and should be passed by sometime around 7:00am this morning. We will try to clear out a bit tomorrow before we start in with the next system after midnight.
