Next Week's Storm Looks Like Mainly Rain

I hope everybody had a wonderful Valentine's Day. I am checking in really quickly because I have a big gymnastics meet to get to. Our latest models are doing some back-flips but I think when all is said and done the Wednesday storm looks like it will be mainly rain. I am concerned about the storm track based on the latest trends. If it keeps coming farther north our chances of heavier rain and thunderstorms increase. We do not need heavy rain that is for sure with the river levels still a good 6 feet above flood stage here in Lafayette as of this afternoon. The river will likely fall to near bankfull on Wednesday before another crest above flood stage on the way by Friday into next weekend. The latest ensemble averages keep most of our rainfall in the .50" to 1" category which woud keep our flooding on the minor side. But right now we are just too far out and all interests by the Wabash River and near the flood plain need to monitor the situation carefully as we head through the work week. Our weather team will be here for you.

Sports Fans Weather Update: Things are not looking too good at the race track in Daytona Beach, Florida. The heavier rain is moving in between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. without much of a break expected until after 8 p.m. They could even have a thunderstorm. So expect long delays and maybe even a cancellation. Spring training in Arizona is well underway for the Cubs. Temperatures will be in the 70s out in the desert for most of the week and push 80 by next weekend. A lot of folks do have Spring on their minds here at home and I think we could hit 70 degrees our higher before the official first day of Spring on March 20th. It is all related to a blossoming La Nina. I will have more on this here on the blog on Monday. Have a great finish to your weekend and go Abbey!!

Anonymous said...

yeah the way he avoided the questions...i'd say its a strong possibilty...:(

Anonymous said...

I agree, I guess we will find out tomorrow afternoon:(((..if he says.Maybe for some reason Mike cant say.

Anonymous said...

if he is going to leav maybe we have till the end of the school year with him.

Mike is going to do what is going to benefit him and his family. He is a grown man and will make benefitial descisions. So there is nothing anyone can do to make him stay if he is actually leaving Lafayette. If he is moving I wish him and his family the best. Mike is one of the best public leaders in Lafayette. I would like for Mike to stay I am hoping this is just a big farce.

All anyone can do is wait!! So like Mike posted enjoy the rest of the weekend. So change the subject please.

we better make the best of this blog while we can

I think the post was to show when the next front will be here and what to expect. It does give bloggers something to keep an eye out on and to run their programs and check maps. He was also calling for possible thunderstorms.

nothing bad though.

Anonymous said...

Maybe nothing bad as of now. Alot can happen before this system hits Indiana. Always be prepared!

Just wanted to let you know that I have met allot of nice people on here and if I offended anyone I am sorry! I can put up with ignorance but I dont have to. This is a fun blog and a serious one as well considering severe weather.

Sunday night and I was getting out work clothes, forgot I have tomorrow off yes! A great program on the tube about Abe Linclon! Looks like wind and rain on the way
Tuesday..

There are many nice people on this blog, many have been faithful weather watchers for at least a couple of years and have bonded. The ignorance I read with last nights postings, was the one who posted about Mike, that was not a fair thing to do.

everyone has a right to their opinions, but to post such a thing, what a shame.

Looks like some lake effect snow?

Anonymous said...

Hang in there everyone...the naysayers will back off soon, get bored, leave-- and those of us who are tried and true wx geeks will remain.

So true Mary Anne, we have been through this before. And the naysayers do go away.

Hey everybody here is the latest weather outlook I have.

Monday looks rather good a little cool though with highs around the low to mid 30s however I think the mostly clear skies will make up for that! And light winds between 3 and 5 mph.

I know everybody wants to know what Wednesday will bring so here is what I got!

Late Tuesday night after midnight we will start to see the rain move in with a slight chance for some thunder but currently if we see any it looks light. Rainfall is looking between a quarter and a half inch possible. Snowfall will be light around only an inch. Higher amounts the more north you go. We will see a few left over snow showers on Thursday where we could see another possible inch.

Now I did see another possible Alberta clipper in the forecast for closer to next weekend. I wont post any amounts just yet as it is a week away and as we get closer I will. But that would be our next snow chance as of now!

Also the latest flood outlook at 9:pm is at 16.09ft and with our sunny skies tomorrow we will keep falling and looking better. As Mike said we will have to watch the rivers once again on Wednesday with that half inch of rain possible.

I too, echo a lot of the comments...you know, I had this blog and Mike P on my mind most of the day. We need to face some facts....Mike will ONE DAY LEAVE! It may be for greener pastures...it may be for retirement....it may be for a change of pace....one day, this will be gone. It will be a sad day when it happens....because we have such a good thing going!!! We have an expert meteorologist who serves us, and sees the benefit of us being able to communicate about weather....and about LIFE. No other meteorologist in this area offers so much.

I am looking forward to some more winter weather before spring arrives for real!!!

Chris,
I could not say that any better!!!
I love learning and a little fun makes it a great blog.

All is very true Chris, Mike will leave someday and we are lucky to have him. I was thinking, who ever takes Mikes place in days to come, will they keep a blog. Its a big part of WLFI, many count on it. But we will no longer be the Prang Gang:(

Anonymous said...

Good luck to Abbey!

Hahaha, I just got on to read up on the recent posts and I read the Valentine's Day one, mentioning the "ledgend" of all the blizzard babies born the following November... mine is taking her nap right now! :)

I must've missed the beginning of the rumor about Mike leaving. ?!? What is that all about??

Anonymous said...

its in the last post annie

Early flowers tring to pop up sounds like spring may be close. I would cover them with some leaves, straw or mulch to protect them.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, I will cover them, How long should I keep them covered? These are rescue plants that I dug up last spring before a families home was flattened, They used to own a golf course were the home was, now a sub division:( Family owned for over 100 years. Ever hear of Parview? St Rd 26 W. in West Laf.

I would hate to lose the plants.

Big clouds rolling in from the south

Anonymous said...

Also I saved some of the old light fictures and wood work that I now have in my home...was a sad thing. Before it was a golf course it was all farm land, the trees and plants were heirloom. Was a beautiful place.

Anonymous said...

Now its just an over-priced subdivision. kinda sad

Anonymous said...

got that right! was heart breaking

Anonymous said...

I would honestly put atleast 2-3 inches of mulch over them. The heat from the Spring will allow them to pop up through the mulch. The mulch will keep them insulated and protected.

Anonymous said...

Always cover plants in the fall with mulch. You can do this by raking mulch up from areas not needed in your beds. If you cant salvage the mulch then buy the mulch. Any greenhouse would be a place to check out or any other landscaping company that provides mulch.

Anonymous said...

Thanks so much, I did cover them with straw in the winter but has blown away:) They are too precious to lose

I re-read the blogs, there is so much more than that . Like the groundhog valentine and much more. I think we all did miss the hint, then he stated to read the blog there is much more going on than just the weather.
