More Flurries Fly As We Stay in the Deep Freeze

It should be an interesting last week of February on the way. It never is dull this time of year. Today is a big day for our country. It is George Washington's birthday. This is significant for all weather lovers, bloggers, watchers, and enthusiasts. George Washington was not only one of our founding fathers but he was one of the first Americans to keep track of the weather. His dove of peace weather vane still sits on top of his Mount Vernon home. He also had a couple of prized thermometers that he kept track of the weather with that are still in pretty good shape. His recording of -17 degrees in Philiadelphia in 1788 went down as one of the coldest days of the 18th Century. Here is an excerpt from George writing about the weather in his diary.

The 22nd of February, 1793: "And as it is not only satisfactory, but may be of real utility to know the state of the weather as to heat & cold, but drought or moisture, prefix, as usual, at the head of every weeks report a meteorological account of these. The Thermomiter which is at Mount Vernon will enable you to do the first". This was just one of several weather references in his diary.

Today it is important to know the state of the weather especially with wind chills remaining in the teens and by late tonight falling to near zero. We still have a few weather disturbances pivoting around in our cyclonic flow. This will keep our chances of snow flurries going through at least late tonight but there will be little or no accumulation.

We will come ouf of the deep freeze by Tuesday afternoon with rain and maybe even a thunderstorm by Thursday with highs near 50 before we track another winter weather event next weekend which could bring more slushy snow. I know a lot of folks are looking for Spring weather. I will make sure to talk about this transition here on the blog tomorrow and why it could be a rough one. We will also have to watch area rivers by late in the week once again with some models showing close to an inch of rain possible on Thursday. The Wabash is still running near flood stage. Have a great day and stay warm.

Are the three previous posters the same person? Just Curious.

I'd still like one last significant snow :-o I feel a bit cheated from this weekend! Gimme a 2"-4" or even 6" :-o accumulation then we can go on to spring. Just one last good snow.

At this point, I am ready for spring. Mentally it is getting hard to function in this seemingly never ending freeze, and a few teases of Spring. But, it can only get better from now, I think we have had our worst. We have had every season basically blow through this winter.

The tree buds are getting quite big!
Also, my workplace has tulips, not bloomed, but its greens are pretty much out full force. That last warm up really gave everything a good tease. Haha, not spring yet!

Just checking back in. I only posted once on -BRING ON SPRING-. Can't speak for the other two.

I still root for one more snow. I mean c'mon, it's not like we live in ND, MN or Chicago even. We're never snowed in, I don't think it's that bad here :) Yes, we have had some cold days but really, it's not as bad as some other places.

Live Green come on Spring!

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it sure seems like the longest, coldest, and darkest. I too would like some warmer weather. It's so much nicer to power walk outside, than treadmill at the gym.

I am growing weary of this winter....maybe I needed to pray to St Jude all the way along....

The past two winters have had their shining moments....but overall, BLAH!

Dear St Jude...

Can't we please have one more good winter streak in order to save this winter season from being a LOST CAUSE!?!?!?! I want no one hurt...just ONE GOOD SNOW!!! In your name I pray....AMEN!

I got back from fort wayne today and I was told there there was still some clean up fron their ice storn in dec. There was this huge long pile of tree limbs and branches in a park parking lot. This was the BIGGEST pile of branches i had ever seen. Wish I could have gotten a pic of it. I saw some broken tree branches around town still too.
BTW brrrrr I can tell its cold tonight from inside.

A very marginal chance of thunderstorms in our neck of the woods by mid week. The model madness around the March 10th time frame is insane.

I'm ready to chase. I'm SO ready to chase!

February does seem like it is just hanging on just like this COLD weather.
Kind of depressing!!! When the sun is out it does help take some of that gloom away.
Hurry up Spring with Summer temps :)

Hey Blogger friends!

Believe it or not I droped to a low last night of only 12.6* degrees! COLD!!!!! Most of the snow is blowing away however I do still have a quarter inch.

Still ICY as well so all be careful! It will be more like Spring here before long as rain is in the forecast and not snow!

I know some of you will like that while others not so much! But we can please everybody an once! :-) We do try!

I will catch up with you all here again a little later on so have a good one!

See you soon.....

It is chilly...loving the sun tho. Don't really want to run errands. But have to our new puppy to the vet follow up. Ready for better weather. DD had tremendous cold and lost her voice. Hmmm is that a good thing on losing the voice? No...not really! Glad her cold is better. Everyone have a nice day. Cold or not it is still pretty out with the sun.
