Do Not Let Brief Lull in Storm Fool You! The Worst is Yet to Come!

I have been working the maps and phones feverishly here this afternoon. I have been in contact with the National Weather Service offices and emergency management. Based on the latest I do think most of our area will end up averaging 2 to 3 inches of rain before all is said and done with isolated higher amounts to the south and southeast of Tippecanoe County.

Areas around the Norway and Oakdale Dams are still in good shape but if this line of showers and thunderstorms moving in from Illinois holds together and dumps an inch or more of rain in less than an hour things could change in a hurry. White County emergency management is on stand-by and everybody needs to monitor the water levels very closely the rest of today and tonight throughout the entire viewing area.

Here in Tippecanoe County we have had some lowland flooding with rain amounts now approaching two inches. The bad news is more heavy rain is on the way with even a possible thunderstorm. This again could cause things to do downhill in a hurry. The Wabash River will quickly rise above flood stage this evening with a flood crest over the weekend close to 20 feet which is moderate flooding. The news on the wind is not good. Downed trees, power outages, and some damage to rooftops and shingles are possible.

Forecasted Wind Gusts:

4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 50 to 60 mph
8 p.m. to 12 a.m. 40 to 50 mph
12 a.m. to 4 a.m. 30 to 40 mph
4 a.m. to 8 a.m. 20 to 35 mph

All weather reports will be greatly appreciated, especially rainfall and any flooded out roads. Thanks for your help in advance.

I'm wondering when the wind's going to start? It's been relatively calm all day despite the rain. It started gusting a little around 4p.m., but quit after about 15 minutes.

I have a nice storm going thru can hear the thunder...wind has picked up alot. 40+mph. We have had just over 2 inches of rain and the creek is now out of its banks. Did have a lull for sometime, which allowed some of the water to settle down and out of my yard. I hate storms....
