We are now up to .10" already here in Lafayette. The new data is showing the bulls eye of the storm from Lafayette to Indianapolis. Areas to our north including Monticello will also get plenty of snow. My wife just got a text message from me about the snow....she only gets those in special circumstances. Yes! Look for an upgrade to a winter storm warning for Lafayette. I will be back with the particulars soon. I think we can name this the Super Bowl Snowstorm since it is happening during Super Bowl week!! Yes!!!! Congratulations snow geese we pulled it off! I will be back with details on the big conference call and finish looking at all this impressive snow data.....
Preliminary Snow breakdown: Look for 4 inches of snow by midnight and another 2-4 inches by 7 a.m. for Lafayette (Grand total of 6" to 8" of snow with locally heavier amouts for Frankfort and Crawfordsville where totals may push 10" in spots)
Monticello I see 2 to 3 inches of snow by midnight and another 1 to 3 inches by 7 a.m. (You are in the 4 to 6 inch band) this includes all of our northern counties with a 2 to 4 inch band for northern Newton and Jasper County.
This is what I am thinking right now but my final call will be made at 4 p.m. today and of course it is Indiana so we will be watching this thing closely in case we have to add more....this monster storm has a lot of potential to be much bigger for us or should I say the Super Bowl Storm.
Oh yes for those wanting facts: Fact: the QPF or quantitative precipitation forecast has doubled since 1 a.m. last night and yes the northern trend continues with the main low pressure track now 100 miles farther north.
I only deal in facts when live's and people's safety are on the line. Remember this is WLFI, your one and only local weather authority and our weather team takes it seriously. We are here for you and only you! These are the snowy facts. Please be safe and remember I just tell it like I see it and am just the messenger. If I really wanted to get folks worked up I could have called for a lot more snow which is still possible. I just gave an average snowfall forecast.Carry on bloggers!

Bring it on!!!
looking like a big one
J from Indy
I'll believe when I see it. Weather.com and accuweather are only calling of an inch or so. Where are you getting these numbers? Getting people worked up for nothing. Come now Mike just the facts, not what you want. We want facts.
I live in Logansport, 4-6 would be nice, but if it wants to come even further north and give us more, i wouldn't complain :)
Thanks for the update Mike!! I just want to say to all of the doubters and naysayers, you were right on with this one. Way to go out on a limb and trust your gut, we love you for it!! Bring it!!
Learn how to read model data and radar progs. The atmosphere is very complex!!
COME ON SNOW I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was for the weather.com person
If you want to look at good maps go to www.weatherbug.com, they have great radar. Looks like heavier snow after 5pm here, definitely more than an inch is coming! This storm is huge!
doesn't appear to be snowing here in monticello yet, of course i'm watching thru tv screens...just some very light flurries about 1/2 hr ago.
I never lost faith, Mike! I knew you could do it!
K.L.
MIKE! YOU ARE THE WEATHER MESSIAH!!!!!! I NEVER DOUBTED YOU FOR A MINUTE BUDDY!!!!!!!!
MIKE! YOU ARE THE WEATHER MESSIAH!!!!!! I NEVER DOUBTED YOU FOR A MINUTE BUDDY!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the update Mike, don't take negative comments personally, you do a fabulous job!
Those wanting snowmobiles rides please holler!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO, I will ride till I cant ride no more!!!!!
Rick
Dont pay attention to the NEGs, none of us do!!!! We appreciate hard work!!!
Any concerns of blowing/drifting?
Come on bloggers. You're doing exactly what the negative bloggers do. If your going to gloat when your right you have to take the negatives when your not. You can't have it both ways.
And I'm a positive supporter.
Enjoy the snow.
Maybe people should remember that you are a Weather man and not a fortune teller! haha----Just do me a favor Mike...I am stuck inside and can't see the pretty snow! Post another picture please!
Thanks!
cb
I don't THINK winds are supposed to be sig ---but I haven't checked that lately....

Come on Snow!!!!! My kids are going to love it. (So am I)
Yay! I can't wait!
Its gonna be one of those mornings where I can't wait to get up and look out the window. :)
Oh~~~I hope you are right!!! I believe in ya!!! Bring on the snow!!!!!! Maybe send a note to Ivy Tech;0) Have an evening class tonight..hate driving in snow!
For the winds today between 5 and 10 mph and tomorrow 10 and 15 mph. not bad rather calm. Still can blow the snow if a light snow! Which it is looking like it so far!
Justin.
Mike an hour of snow has gone by and I have a half inch on the nose!
Justin.
Come on Mike!!! Bring us a foot or more!!!! I don't want to go to school for a couple days!! And, if all possible, give us some really bad winds to cause blowing and drifting for school cancellations lol!!!
flurries in monticello now!
I don't know who will get what, but from a person who likes to watch the weather this sure is an impressive looking system.
You are doing a wonderful job Mike. Don't worry about any negative comments made about you. We appreciate all of your hard work!
Very Impressive
I will be curious to see exactly what the result is of the conference call. The NWS can be rather stubborn... THEY are the ones who issue the official watches/warnings/adv. One would think that since the storm is here....a WARNING of some kind will be issued. I would bet....that since the chance for ice here is nil...and winds won't be a huge factor...a HEAVY SNOW WARNING will be issued. Maybe... or maybe they will leave us in an advisory for 2-4 inches total!
Chris in Tipton
We always believe in you Mike -- even when you are wrong. You gotta love the passion you show for your job!
let it snow! let it snow! let it snow!!!
We WILL fall short of this being a BLIZZARD WARNING....temps have to be 20 or colder with heavy blowing or falling snow....and winds at 35 mph or greater.
Chris in Tipton
You're one of the best local meteorologists I've ever known in any city. You work with the data you have, and you deliver us all with timely forecasts so we can prepare. Thanks for all the effort and passion you put into your job!
Just a few flurries still in Logansport. Barely even a dusting at this point.
Gah! Gotta love Indiana weather. It has often been a joke amongst friends that Lafayette has always had its own weather system. Wait 5 minutes, it will change.
At least it is doing something besides being just plain cold out.
The kids are going to be thrilled. I can also get excited this time....get to break in my new camera with some good snow pics if we get all that snow!
Way to go Mike!!!
And to all you not so nice peaple
if you can't say anything nice, don't
say anything at all!!!!
Good job Mike!!
It's SNOWING!!!!!!
c
C/H : )
hey mike when will the worst be here got to go to elwood from crawfordsville
Keep up the hard work, Mike! Who cares what the nay sayers are telling you. They can choose to look at The Weather Channel if they want to.
Accuweather and the Weather Channel are national broadcasting/forecasting companies. They try to do their best....for us on a local level.....but NOTHING beats a good local meteorologist!
Chris in Tipton
Mike
What are the winds going to be like?
I hope light ,don't like drifting
Bob from Idaville
Storm still looks very impressive. Im surprised that we still have not been updated to some type of warning but i see this happening in the near future
J from Indy
Mike can provide more details....but I am sure that the Conf Call is between Indy NWS/Northern IN NWS maybe Ohio NWS and local meteorologists. This way, they can share ideas and issue common warnings/advisories. It wouldn't make sense for - for example - Grant Co to be in a Winter Storm Warning and Howard Co to be under a Heavy Snow Warning.
Chris in Tipton
Central Indiana has now been included in the Winter Storm Warning. I do not know the full details but I do know that we are now in a Winter Storm Warning. Stay Tuned.
J from Indy
I just looked on NWS INDY site....nothing official yet. Just a matter of time...
C in T
Mike: YOU ARE THE BEST! Your weather blog never fails to make me smile!
R. in Lafayette
WELL....after reading the NWS forecast discussion just released....I get the striking indication that the Lafayette area will NOT BE included in the Winter Storm Warning....
Chris in Tipton
Hmm, all you negative bloggers out there, funny how the weather channel now has 2-4", what happened to their 1 inch or less. Way to go Mike, you are the most accurate meteorologist this city has ever seen. BTW, no loss without Brian Wolfe. I will keep watching and keeping up with your blog.
If that is the case....I say that MIKE SHOULD ISSUE HIS OWN WARNING.....
Chris in Tipton
Hate to say this but it looks like we're going to have a long break in the snow before the next round after midnight so I say 3-5" for LAF
Well may be 4-6" for LAF that's it
I hope this holds up. Mike will be 1-8. Hey, you keep shooting ones bound to drop. Then again we don't have it yet.
Thanks Mike... I have my husband bringing home extra milk and bread...
It has all but stopped here in Warren County, bummer!
I plow snow! Keep it coming!!
if only it would push up about 4 miles then we would be in busniness!!
Still snowing here north of campus. WTHR says 6-12 for Indy and 4-8 for Lafayette and Kokomo. Can't wait to see it all!
that should have been 40 miles, sorry
There is a Winter Weather Advisory posted until 7am
Mike
We started getting snow around 12:30 p.m. at 3:30 p.m. I measured .25 inches of snow. We also have hit a dry spot because it isnt snowing as of now.
Attica (Fountain County)
Still snowing in W. Lafayette!!
The Winter Weather Advisory is until 12pm Wednesday for Central Indiana
..WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM EST WEDNESDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM EST
WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
A STRONG WINTER WEATHER SYSTEM WILL BRING MORE SNOW TO CENTRAL INDIANA.
SNOW WILL CONTINUE TONIGHT AND INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING BEFORE
DIMINISHING. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 7 INCHES ARE EXPECTED FROM
TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. LOCALIZED HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE. THIS
WILL BE ON TOP OF WHAT HAS ALREADY FALLEN.
SNOW AMOUNTS MAY BE REFINED AS THE TRACK OF THE SYSTEM BECOMES
BETTER DEFINED. STAY TUNED FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FOR THIS
SITUATION.
A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW
ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. IF YOU MUST
TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR
VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
The warning does not include ANY of the WLFI viewing area, including Frankfort and Tipton.
Chris in Tipton
Starting to finally get a light dusting in Logansport. Not snowing hard at all. Got a ways to go to get 4-6. Still looks south to me and i think the new counties added to the warning are south and east of here.
Was Mike going to update us after the Con-call with NWS?
This is currently on WLFI.com and so is the Weather Advisory that is in affect until 7am!
Storm Update With Meteorologist Mike Prangley
Tonight: Snow likely with 4 to 8 inches likely across the Lafayette viewing area. Locally heavier amounts are possible in Montgomery and Clinton Counties. Lows will be in the middle teens with a north to northeast wind near 10 mph. Snow will taper off in the morning but the wind will start to pick up causing some blowing and drifting. Travel will not be advised tonight and Wednesday morning.
Check Mike's Weather Blog for the latest on our snowstorm Tonight and Tuesday.

Mike said Lafayette would be under a winter storm warning. He was wrong. Might be a bit before you hear from him. I have a feeling he is wrong on snowfall amounts too.
Wow Bloomington is at 21 degrees with moderate freezing rain. That's just insane.
snowing pretty good here in white co!
No....Mike was not wrong. Issuing of certain warnings...esp Winter Warnings is sometimes a matter of opinion. In the NWS forecast discussion....the forecaster says that he just doesn't feel areas to the NW of Indy won't get as much moisture AS THE MODELS ARE INDICATING. The NWS could end up extending the warning later on...
Chris in Tipton
Here is what I currently think of this storm.
I do think the 5" to 8" inch range will fit best! Though there is a chance for a possible Nine inches for lafayette I will stay with 5" to 8".
Mike I will check back with my liquid ratio here in a few.
Currently looking to tapper off tomorrow around 10:am or 1: pm around that time range.
I dont see winds higher then 15 mph still like the poster above it can still blow this light fluffy snow.
So watch the roads if you have to go out.
Justin.
"Mike said Lafayette would be under a winter storm warning. He was wrong. Might be a bit before you hear from him. I have a feeling he is wrong on snowfall amounts too."
Well honestly for crying out loud he can't control mother nature but at least he does his best by trying to predict it. Give him so credit.
Just what you said last week. Good job Mike.
Got the new Arctic Cat ready to go tonight!
Did he or did he not say to look for Lafayette to be included in the winter storm warning? Thought for sure i read that. Now, is Lafayette under a winter storm warning? And where is Mike to fill us in on the particulars? The conference call was over an hour ago.
It has stopped snowing in Laf. Looks to be in a dry slot. Did we celebrate to soon?
The vintage yamaha is ready also, ready to hit it, JUST KEEP COMING
Rick
IMO - WE SHOULD BE under a Winter Storm Warning...I am sure that Mike will agree.
Chris in Tipton
OH NO ON THE WEATHER CH RADER WE ARE IN A DRY SPOT! Looks like we ride just on the line of a LONG DRY SPOT we look like we are right on the edge! Bummer Bummer Please tell me I dont know how to read the map! I WANT SNOW SNOW SNOW! LOL
No we didn't celebrate to soon it was predicted that would be a lull in the storm. With it picking up in earnest again after midnight.
Looking at the radar I see why we are not under a warning at this time.
This system needs to head north or we will be left out. Granted its early, but right now----
NWS radar doesn't look too bad.....
Chris in Tipton
WOW you guys have been busy, this what Mike stated about the warning,
"Look for an upgrade to a winter storm warning for Lafayette."
I just got in from work it has not stopped snowing, may be light but still coming down..We have at least a good inch were I am located..Roads are very slick and traffic is moving slow...Be very careful out there, and come on be nice:)
Teri in Laf
Keep the snow coming!!!! Love it.
Yep the Arctic Cat has been waiting for this all winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Snowing again with some huge flakes here in Warren County. Give me a break guys, Mike doesn't have a direct phone line to God to see exactly what we are going to get, it's his job to prepare us for what is POSSIBLE!! If you don't believe it or don't like it, that's up to you, believe what you want. Most of the nay sayers on here, I'm sure do not have the credentials to doubt him. No meteorologis will ever be perfect, but Mike for darn sure is about as good as you can get. Unbelievable!! Just wait and see what develops.
Yes I understand. But every hour that passes without accumulating snow lowers our odds. Just an observation.
Congratulations, Mike - you're right on target! I love your blog because you mention your family and it's obvious you care about them very much and that's refreshing!
Patricia
If you watch a loop radar a new snow band has started on the NW side of Missouri and looks to be headed our way in a few hours.
Yeah, I saw that on the radar, it looks like it won't be long until the snow picks back up.
The same people that complain about Mike's forecast are the same people that call TEMA and say I was inside my house didn't hear the tornado sirens go off. That's why they are called OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS. O well...It's so pretty outside. Love the snow. Bring it on!
we should say chance of light snow and be through with it
Artic Cat Man, are you on the south side of Lafayette?
1.2 inches of new snow here in Tipton since storm began....around 12:45.
Chris in Tipton
4:10 p.m snow has not started back up in Attica
This system from Texas up, looks very impressive.. Be careful my neighbor just fell scooping snow, is very slick!
Teri in Laf..
For the readers that keep asking where their updates are...
1. Mike DOES have a job OTHER than the BLOG! lol. Do you think he might be preparing for the ACTUAL tv news????
2. Mike DOES have a family. And friends. And a Church. And well...a life. Don't we all...I hope?
3. WHY in the WORLD would Mike be ready to hop onto THIS blog, when there are such LOVELY comments being made??? Come on...if you want his services, be nice!!!!
I personally, think that the fact that other stations are tuning into this forecast and Indy is telling people to stay off the roads, is a sign of things a coming!!!!
We are getting snow dust here in Rensselaer. Light little specs of snow. Totally not fair. I want snow and lots of it.
william
I am from northern Benton County and it is now snowing lightly here. We got a little bit of ice about 30 min ago. And then the snow started and my car is already covered.
re Arctic Cat man no I am in eastern clinton county
It was predicted that would be a lull in the storm this evening. With it picking up in earnest again after midnight.
Just remember that.
I would like to add to continue to have respect, to the person who posted this would be 1-8, I believe Mike has been on target all winter with his forecasts. And yes, as also pointed out, the blog is not his only duty, in addition to preparing for his newscast, he is devoted to his family and also his passion of running. It is obvious he gets very little sleep as he keeps us all updated on the blog til the wee hours of the morning. Do you only throw stones when you know you are anonymous? Shame to some of you!!
Just ran out to get milk and some other staples and 24 is a little slick here in Rem. It is still snowing but not as much as earlier this afternoon. I am ready for more snow so bring it on.
Hey Bloggers just a little tip I'M sure some of you already know this! But we need to keep an eye on how the Low is tracking! As it moves north we can see the more Heavy bands!
Justin.
Glad I had my broom in my car..snow covering my car..light and fluffy..I am seeing bigger flakes trying to mix in with this mess.. and trust me Laf is pretty at this time, yet very slick! Is worse than the Sunday snowfall!!!!
When I left Royal Center at 3:15,
the roads were clear and no snow. Once I was north of Fulton in Fulton County, I encountered sleet and snow. At this time, it is still coming down in Rochester!!!!! AND it is blowing.
I hope this is not a repeat of last year, when Rochester was only to get a few inches, and the storm was to hit farther south. We got 10 inches, while Cass County received 4.
Take care, and I will continue to read, with a great interest, all the posts.
F/C
Looks like Norhthern Warren and Benton Counties snow will soon be coming to a hault soon. 4:30 p.m the Dewpoint is 14 Humidity 78% and the Barometric pressure is 30.23 and falling. This is for Williamsport The dewpoint and humidity shows moisture but where is it going? Barometer is not all that low either, wonder if thats making the dry spot since the pressure isnt low enough to squeeze out anything.
Richard
I find that the weather channel and some of those national weather stations are busying viewing everywhere! I would rather have Mike giving us more than necessary! As a mom I would rather error high compared to low! Keep up the great work Mike! Thanks!
