These were the doppler radar rainfall estimates we woke up with one year ago today. The red and deep red shaded areas had 3 to 6 inches of rain. Total rainfall amounts ended up in the 5 to 8 inch range with an isolated report of 10 inches in Buffalo. This comes out to a season's worth of precipitation that fell in only 10 hours. Water rescues started taking place across the area for both people and animals. You can see the stranded horses in Monon below.
The horrible images we all remember from hurricane Katrina in Louisiana were being repeated right here in our own backyards from White, Carroll, and Cass Counties up into Newton and Jasper Counties. Mary Anne in Remington shows us how homes were engulfed with water. Some folks even told me their living rooms had strong currents running through them. It is amazing we did not have more fatalities.
We were not talking about 100 year floods but water levels never before recorded or seen in areas to the north of Tippecanoe County. Here are some amazing excerpts from our newscast on January 8th.
Sue: NIPSCO recorded record flow at the Norway and Oakdale Dams.
About 100 people have been evacuated from towns in White County.
State Police say those evacuees have been taken to Red Cross Shelters at the Monon Civic Center, the White County Farm, and the Buffalo Fire Station.
Jeff Smith reports State Police helped the White and Carroll County Sheriff's Departments and crews from the DNR in helping to rescue people.
>> Mark Houser: We've lost everything, it's the worse I've ever seen it.
>> Mark and Sherry Houser have lived on the Tippecanoe River for six years.
They left home with everything they own in a plastic bag.
The Housers are among the boat-load
s evacuated from homes along the Tippy.
Donald Smith and his wife evacuated...reluctantly.
Smith rescued his dog, and put a neighbor's dogs in his garage before leaving.
>> NIPSCO spokesman Jim Fitzer says the Oakdale and Norway Dams are operating normally but they've never seen as much water.
Flow at the Oakdale Dam peaked at 26-thousand Cubic Feet per Second.
The previous record was 22,500, set in 1959.
Residents, like Gladie Van Voorst, could only watch the water rise.
>> Gladie Van Voorst: There are
26 steps to the river.
It's never been higher than today, there are only 12 showing.
Gladie Van Voorst: Thirteen showing out of 26.
Jeff: NIPSCO called a "Flood Emergency" at seven o'clock this morning.
The high water has prompted multiple eva
cuations in areas in White County including Diamond Point, Blue Wate
r, Maple Bend near Buffalo, and in the Monticello. State Police, conservation officers, and other emergency personnel are assisting in the evacuations.
White County Emergency Management Director Gordy Cochran says shelters have been set up in Monon, Buffalo, Wolcott, and Monticello. He says the northern part of the county is one of the worst hit areas.
Gordy Cochran: We are up in Buf
falo. We had to wait until daylight due to several roads up there washed out completely. We wanted to wait until daylight to get people in. We've got State Police, Fire Department, Emergency Management, Sheriff's Department up there right now going house to house to see who needs to be out and who needs help to get out.
White County's Emergency Management
Department estimates at least 200 homes have some kind of flood damage. Director Gordan Cochran says his office has been swamped with people wanting to know what to do with their damaged items. Cochran says
until President Bush declares this area a natural disaster site, he does not know what financial relief people can expect.
Compare and contrast that to today and it will feel like a slice of heaven. Yes! We may be waking up with wind chills near zero but we could actually see some rare sunshine this afternoon with a lighter wind and most of all the rivers are in their banks.
We are okay for now but a big concern will continue to be flooding on area rivers for the remainder of this winter into the Spring. A La Nina pattern that brought this devastation last winter is once again gaining strength and even though it is not forecasted to be as strong I think we all need to watch things closely. This usually brings wild weather here in the Midwest with everything from big snowstorms to se vere thunderstorms. It can bring record lows followed by record warm surges like we saw last year.
I can see us going into a dangerous cycle once again. We will have periods of warmth, followed by extreme cold, then snow, another warm-up with heavy rain, then back to another shot of cold and snow. Mark your calendars down for next week when the first part of the cycle kicks in...that will be the cold...then we will watch for a bigger snow, followed by warmth and stormy weather. We will continue to fine-tune things as we get closer and I will give you plenty of advance notice here on the blog. This will be about a 3 to 4 week cycle that will try to play out over and over. Sound familiar? I am not calling for another 500 year flood, but significant flooding cannot be ruled out.
In the short-term we will watch record cold coming our way from Siberia. Check out this thermometer reading sent in by Levi from Tok, Alaska. This is southeast of Fairbanks and it actually shows the temperature at - 60 degrees! This is cold enough to explode trees and freeze mercury. A chunk of this cold air will move into Lafayette the middle of next week with lows below zero likely. I went with a conservative 8 below zero on my seven day forecast. It does depend on how much snow cover we actually have. If we have some snow to work with on the ground we could be even colder.
Now on a more positive note, I am trying to give a late Christmas gift to all the snow-lovers out there. I am heading to Florida for the next few days to run in the Disney World Marathon. It should be a blast with great running weather. Temperatures will start near 50 and I should cross the finish with low 60s! This means here at home we will be on the outlook for a bigger snow event. Even though nothing is sh owing up on the maps right now, keep your guard up. Something big always happens when I head out of town. It is the called the meteorologist jinx. So that little snow on Saturday could easily be much bigger and watch early next week closely. That is when I fly back. This is when the atmosphere usually likes to give me a thrill ride on my plane ride home. I saw severe storms lash the ear th and bounce my plane up and down last time I flew home. One other year Buffalo had like 6 inches of rain in 3 hours during big thunderstorms. Another year I flew to Maryland and Lafayette had more than 6 inches of snow. So there you have it! I am doing all I can to bring you some snow. We will see how it works out. I will only be a keyboard away in Florida and will check in with you.
We are due for snow as you see we are running about 3 to 4 inches below average. We will get our snow as we go into that active cycle. Let's just keep the floods away and on a day like today remember the lessons of the past and certainly count all of our blessings. Now I had better get to the airport. I need a laptop! I would have written you from 36,000 feet describing all those beautiful clouds as I saw them. Take care and I will talk to you soon from the land of sunshine and yes, GO GATORS!! Here is the Florida forecast put together. Just think, this will be Lafayette by late March. I do think we still see an early Spring!!

That would make me so, so happy.
I too would like an early Spring. NO SNOW!!! Good luck in the run Mike. I hope you get a PB.
I hope so! We deserve it! last spring was so chilly. I am not sure that March will have that warm of temps. Perhaps April will though. I remember years ago, when April and May were almost really warm, May was hot and humid. Now days, it seems we are quite chilly. The days are getting longer now too! Can't tell yet.
I am not sure what to predict for us, Indiana is like riding a coaster.
Today brings lots of sad memories to me of one year ago. Unless you lived it you can't descibe it. I have new respect for flood water!
Jasper County suffered a huge loss in both property and lives. One man was swept off a county road and drowned. Another elderly man did not live long enough to see his house remodeled to live in again. The stress of being carried out on the back of a fireman, seeing his house in ruins, eventually took his life. Remington was inundated, isolated as roads in and out of town were closed off by water, families were evaucated by boat in the middle of the night, the horror of daylight to SEE where and how far and wide and deep the water was.....

And Mike on a more positive note, GOOD LUCK in the marathon! I remember you telling about the bumpy ride home last year. Enjoy the warmth of FL, enjoy your parents, family and hurry back to us. We NEED you here to hold our hands through the tough times.

NOOOOOOOO Gators! BOOMER SOONER!!
i too remember the flood and was out in it, i was delivering my newspapers along Pete's Bait shop road by oak dale dam and i came off the bridge and started down the road and this was like at 3 am and i was busy rolling my papers and basggin them while driving, and i happened to look up and saw alittle water on the road and for a split second i thought about going on thru it and if id had i probably wouldve been swept off into the river, and the only thing i can think of was the Man upstairs stopped me. i dint know anything about the river flooding there , that was my first winter driving it. Becky from Monticello
Wow, Becky! You had angels riding with you for sure!
We are off to the memorial service.

HOWEVER A PERIOD OF LIGHT SNOW OR LIGHT FREEZING RAIN IS POSSIBLE IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AND TERRE HAUTE AREAS BY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.
THE PRECIPITATION WILL GRADUALLY END IN MOST AREAS ON SATURDAY. PERSONS SHOULD LISTEN TO LATER STATEMENTS ON THIS DEVELOPING WINTER SYSTEM.
Just a heads up!
Teri in Laf
Yes Teri I to Have just about the same thing! Lafayette in the one to two inch range and this time the more north you go the more snow!
I'M sure all us Bloggers will be watching it closely! ;-)
Mike Good Luck!!
Justin in Lafayette
Yes Justin, as we all know all could change in a blink of an eye!:)
Teri
I dont know gang, looks like this system could move further south! We need to be on gaurd! Take a look at the radars! It will be a snow storm for our viewing area I bet!
I WANT SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:) Hoping we see some white stuff this weekend for sure!
Mike...we will be thinking of you this weekend. Check in to let us know how you ran. And have fun!!!
Annie in Attica
Hey Bloggers I have been checking out a few things tonight and looking at some of the new models at 1:40am I think we can be in the One to Three inch range maybe two to four inch range for the Lafayette area and areas around! If we go up to places around Newton and Jasper County! Maybe Three to Five inches! Up around Fort Wayne, and areas around there looking like the five to eight inch range! We will just have to keep a close watch on this system and see how the Low pressure tracks!
The snowfall amounts have already changed from 10:pm so it could change again!
Everybody keep one another updated and we will see how it wants to play out!
Oh Almost forgot!! The timing has changed a bit as well it is now expected to start sometime closer to 2:am Early Saturday morning!
I will pop in Later on today! I have a few more things to get done then it is off to bed! Nights like tonight before a system comes in are the nights I get little if any sleep! ;-)
See you later!
Justin.
Justin thanks for words of hope,
I watched the news with Stefanie, and she only mentioned cold, not a word about snow! when the NWS had already issued the alert hours earilyer, we will miss mike!

... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 7 PM EST SATURDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MIXED WITH SLEET... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 7 PM EST SATURDAY.
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TO THE OHIO RIVER FROM TONIGHT TO SATURDAY MORNING. THIS IS EXPECTED TO BRING AROUND 3 TO 5 INCHES OF SNOW ACROSS NORTHWESTERN CENTRAL INDIANA... POSSIBLY MIXING WITH SLEET AT TIMES. THE CHANCES FOR SLEET ARE MAINLY OVERNIGHT ON FRIDAY AND PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BE ALL SNOW BY AROUND 7 AM SATURDAY.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW OR SLEET WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES... AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
Well....at least one is giving you guys a hard way to go for not knowing EXACTLY how much, when, and where like they do Mike. I hate it when they give him a hard way to go!
I notice that the NWS is predicting a general 3-5 inches for north central indiana, yet most of the local media, indcluding lafayette, and indy are still saying just a general 1-3 inches.. i think its a good idea to prepare for the 3 to 5, and if we only get 1 to 3 then we atleast are in better shape and prepared. . . Honestly.. i am just glad we are getting SNOW !!!!!!!! Here at my home ( just south of INdy), i have only had about a half inch of snow all season long... as long as everyone is smart and remembers to take their time on the roads.. I SAY LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW. !! Brandon (s.indy)
For the snow lovers. Please don't complain next week when it's colder with the snow cover than it would be without. I personally don't want the higher heating bills. But I'll be just as happy one way or the other because we just can't control the weather. Run Mike run!
Well, Our luck, our motor in our furnace went out. It is 50' in my house now. Luckily I am in my room with a safe heater. It is rather chilly. I am hoping to have it fixed today. This could be bad.
ITS GOING TO BE COLD NEXT WEEK SNOW OR NO SNOW. THESE CLIPPER LIKE SYSTEMS ARE BRINGING DOWN COLD CANADIAN AIR EACH TIME THEY PASS, OVER THE NEXT WEEK..PERSONALLY , IF ITS GONNA BE BELOW ZERO, I ATLEAST WANT A BLANKET OF SNOW WITH MY COLD WEATHER... AGAIN.. LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW !! BRANDON (SINDY)
Bring on the snow! Heck, bring it RIGHT NOW! I am ready! :) The only bad thing about these snowfalls is that they're on the weekend which doesn't cancel school....hurumph.
What I think will be bad, is the freezing rain/sleet that is to start after midnight before changing over to all snow! Is a beautiful day today, get out and enjoy if you can!
Must be a bunch of kids on here who don't have to pay energy bills. Ask a person on a fixed income about them.
iam not going to get my hopes up seems like every time i do we are missed in some way.
Hey Bloggers here is the latest I have .
The low pressure is now tracking a little more south then it was last night! This has droped the snow amounts a bit!
Lafayette is looking for the system to start closer to 4:am Saturday morning! As a bit of freezing rain however the good news is it only looks like a tenth inch or less! Snowfall between one and three inches possible!
Expect a bit higher amounts as you head north! Newton, and Japser, Counties are looking for snowfall between two and three inches!
And up around south bend IN, a possible two to four inches!
We will still have to keep a close watch on this system and the low pressure as models can have a hard time forecasting just where the low will go! I will keep checking in with the latest snowfall and timing through the night!
You all know the forecast changes up till the last Sec here in Indiana!
Justin.
Just received from an Indy weather update!
A winter storm brings a mess to the area to get the weekend started. Areas that see the icy mix early on change to snow by mid morning. To the north where everything falls as snow look for 2"-5". In the metro ice accumulates to around a tenth of an inch with 1"-3" of snow. By the end of next week we could go below zero.
I just heard on the radio that we now can get a half inch of ice tonight into tomorrow morning. Can someone confirmed that.
I just saw on the WFLI website that Stefanie Davis has the viewing area for 0.25 inches of ice by tomorrow morning and then snow accumulations less than 0.5 inches. What the crap?
Sure miss you Mike! No updates!
Who knows what to expect. I guess they are not expecting much cause we are not hearing much!!
Wx channel now has in the 3-6" range as far as snowfall, plus freezing rain!!!! the numbers keep rising! So conflicting!!!!
We will just wait for the winter storm warning or heavy snow warning to be issued..bet ya!
Hey all this is a wild system! All of us are wondering what nature is going to do and where all is to be dumped on. Nathan I saw the same amounts you did, and I think the same as you
a keyboard away??
Hey all I have been working on this all day! And as the new stuff comes in I see Lafayette with 1 to 2 Inches.
The Low pressure has moved even more south then earlier! And now chances for us seeing at least four inches is around 10% (LOW).
I think for Lafayette 1" to 2" inch range and up around Newton and Japser counties around 1" to 3" inch range! Still ice for Lafayette is around a Tenth or less at this time! Starting maybe around 2:am Early Saturday! And snow a little later!
This system has been changing a lot! And is not the easiest system to keep up with! But I think we all are doing a good job! ;-)
I'M currently waiting on another model to come in and when it does I will check back as things could be changed!
Justin.
Hey mike wish you were around to give us your thoughts on this storm...

I sure hope we don't get much, I have to drive to Frankfort tomorrow afternoon. :( I guess we'll just have to see when it comes.
Just checked the Weather Channel website and it has 1-3 inches for Crawfordsville and north. Uggh, so many predictions -- it's so confusing.
Kokomo radio station has all of it listening area as getting a half of an inch of ice tonight and tomorrow. Man there is so much confusion. Dont know what to think.
.Check out the radar look at MO.. snow developing look at the radars. we are still in the 2-5 inch range!
who is in the half of inch of ice?? which counties?? we dont get kokomo radio!
try wolfcast.blogspot.com
Temp is 33* where I am, a very slight drizzel in laf
Wow what a confusing storm. all stop posting? I checked out the wolf site cool as well!
Hey all...there is another wx blog where updates are going to be done hourly...check it out:
wolfcast.blogspot.com
The other model is in and it looks like 1 to 3 inches! New ton and Jasper 2 to 4 inches! Snow starting in Lafayette closer to 7:am saturday morning!
You can really pick out the low pressure on not only the radar but the satellite image!
Justin
JUSTIN--watch your mouth, LOL!! But really we here in Jasper County will take ALL snow with no ice, please!! :-) :-)
Hey, that blogspot is Brian Wolfe who was the weekend Met on WLFI!! neat!!

Sorry about that Mary anne LOL :-)
I think you will be OK with ice this time Mary anne! Hey have you herd from Teri?? Have not seen her on the some time?
This has been a tricky system! I do still like the 2 to 4 inch range for you! However I think you will see 2 to 2 1/2 inches!maybe three!
It really all comes down to where will this low pressure go!
If this system drops more south we could see more in the way of snow totals! that is what we have to watch!
Justin
Hi bloggers, is fun tracking this winter storm, perhaps not so fun when it gets here:)
What a wild ride it has been wx wise, and the worst is yet to come with the frigged temps!
I agree with the person who posted about gas bills, oh my:(((
Justin when do you sleep? LOL
MA, I think the blogspot is neat as well!
I will be here watching this winter storm with all of you!
Teri
Teri your BACK!!!!! :)
I sleep little if any on nights like this! I feel if I sleep I will get behind! ;)
Justin
LOL Justin, just as with MA the other day we were posting at the same time!
I have been busy with work, and just stuff:)
YaY Steve is on the news!!!! Welcome back our wonderful friend!
Hey work comes first!
The models are at an agreement for this to start at 8:am tomorrow morning! with th e1 to 3 for Lafayette and a possible 2 to 4 for up around Mary anne!
Justin
Justin...curious.....you have been saying as the system drops farther south...less snow....now, you say more snow if it drops more south...could you explain?...thanks.
I'M sorry about that! I must have had a typo or something! Now that you bring that up that was a big confusion!
I get going so fast with this weather stuff and just step all over my words!
Justin.
Ok just wanted to check in again with the latest!
Lafayette snowfall amounts between 1 and 3 inch range however I think we will see an inch and a half to two inches! So so far not a big system! We will also have winds between 15 and 20 mph!
Up around Newton and Jasper counties! looking between 2 and 4 inch range! And I think they will see 2 to 2 and a hlaf inches.
Both are expected to start sometime closer to 8:am Saturday!
Newton and Japser counties are not looking like Ice will be much of a problem which I'M sure they are very glad about!
As well for here in Lafayette! If we where to see any ice it would be less then a tenth inch! But I think we will stay mostly snow!
I will check back as needed!
Justin.
Justin I hope we dont get freezing rain/sleet! I slipped in a parking lot and now have a very sore knee!
several people I work with have sufferd a fall from slipping on the ice! One had to go to the ER...
Teri
OMGoodness!! ER? WOW I hope they where OK!
The good thing is I thing if we see ice it will be less then a tenth inch of ice!
But as of now it is slim! I to hope it stays that way!
Justin
Yes her leg is messed up not broken but badly brusied!
On that day we had a tiny bit of ice! Like it has been said over and over any amount of ice is bad!
Well off to bed for me..I have a funeral to attend tomorrow:( Hope the wx is not bad.
teri
Sorry to hear that Teri, Best you get your sleep then.
Justin.
Hi guys iam like you can't sleep was wondering since i deliver the Lafayette jc, should i go out and start kie i usually do at 2 am during the week or you think iam safe to wait till 3;30 like i do on the weekends, i will be waiting on here patiently, oh by the way i deliver little over 200 papers and it takes me close to 3 hours,,,,,Becky
Well Becky I still have things starting closer to 7:am or 8:am this morning!
However with the way this system has been it is not for sure that it will start on the time on the nose! It is more of a give or take timeline!
I really can't tell you what to do! It is your call! I had a friend who did the paper and had to get up at 2:am every morning! So I gave you all credit!! After hearing what she went through!
Sorry I hope this helps!
Justin.
Hey i forgot iam from Monticello so are we really in for alot ??Thanks, if it didnt pay good, and the tips are great i wouldnt be doing it but i made alittle over $ 800.00 for the month of Dec. from tips alone
OK well There is a chance that some rain mixed with Sleet could start in the next few hours!
If you are in monticello you could see the snowfall amounts between 2 and 4 inch range so snowfall around 2 to 2 1/2 inches!
The ice is a tenth or less but any amount of ice is dangeous! so do be careful!
May firend said through the holidays people would give cookies and gifts to them! so that has to make you feel good!
Justin.
justin thanks for the info. did i read on here one time you work with a agency in lafayette that serves mentally challenged people, if not it mustve been someone else
Must have been another person!
I just like to post here and keep you all with as much info as I have!!!
Justin
Sorry i worked for a company down there at one time and i thought that i read that somewhere and maybe you were my supervisor, sorry my mistake
i think i will get ready since iam not tired, might just as well get it over with, then by chance when iam done i can either be done before it hits or just get in on the beginning and be home shortley after, thanks again for your info.
No problem!
Please drive safe today! With Indiana weather you never know how the roads will be!
Jusitn
In Laf we are getting a very light drizzle, not freezing at this time:)
Just starting to get a light coating of Ice..started just around 6:30 am. where I am located, and the temp is 29*
Teri in Laf
Freezing really comming down and very windy!
Be careful!!
Becky hope you are finished with the JC!
Teri in Laf
Hey guys!
I still like less then a tenth inch of ice for Lafayette! I was just out and I only have a trace of ice! Still take it slow! As for snow for lafayette I like around an inch maybe inch and a half! BUt an inch is more likely at this time!
Up around Newton and Jasper counties! Not so much ice as possible sleet and snow! Snowfall around 2 inches is possible!
Justin
Justin, I just went to get the news paper, walks and my road are very slick! Looks like a dry slot for Tipp Co?
Teri in Laf
Oh and now an adviorsy has been issued for Benton, Jasper, and Newton Counties. I wonder why they were not included with all around them?
Teri
Teri they are morew with the NWS in IL, So they where ot really posted in it here in Indiana however they still was kinda in the advisory!
Yes teir as well a dry slot!
Most of the moisture that this system is feeding on is to our south and east! As to the back side of this system we can see it is much drier! I would not rule out less snowfall then an inch for Lafayette! Because we are going to be missing the moisture!!!
But yes it is still dangerous out so everyone be Careful if you have to go out!
Justin.
My computer model is in. It's called a window. i looked out. Ice and no snow. So that is what my computer model shows and that's what I'm calling for. Computer models. What a joke. Have any of them been right all winter. They start out calling for all kinds of snow, but when the system arrives they say very little. Hello! You don't need a model to know by then.
Models can be tricky! And they do have a hard time forecating the Low pressure tracks! SO I have to agree they are not always the best! But they still halp and do give us time to note that a system is possible!
I have to think with this system that we have been seeing our temperatures all night and this morning right between 29* and 30* degrees! Now when the storm got here we have been seeing this freezing rain and not so much snow! So I think that this dry air moving in may not be so bad after all! If anything it shouold keep most of the freezing rain at bay!
Otherwise I think we would be tracking a lot more freezing rain then snow anyways! So if this drier air will keep the Ice away! then fine with me!
Justin.
Hey Justin, someone just hit the fire hydrent in front of my house again! I decided to lay back down when I heard the crash!
The thing is still standing yet the car is a mess!
I went out in my PJ's and slippers to see if the people needed help. They are fine but a little shakey
A word of advice, never walk out side on icy walks and roads in sippers they dont call them slippers for nothing:)
It very dangerous out there at this time!
Teri in Laf
LOL Teri about the slippers! :)
I can not believe they hit it again! WOW! ANd the roads even with this little bit of ice is yes still very dangerous! Here is just a few quick road reports below!

OH Goodness she knocked down the stop and steet sign as well! The steet sign and post are clear in my neighbors yard! It was too dark for me to tell what it was at first, she hit hard!
I meant Street sign:) Was typing fast.. I want to get a pic of the sign, to show how far it flew! Waiting on the poice and tow truck to leave!Good thing for the hydrent, it brought her to a stop! So close to the neighbors house!
I for one would not want to live by that hydrent! ;)
Justin.
I was just talking to my aunt who was on her way to work on high way 52 when she started to slid off the road so she turned back around to go home and start to slid again!
She is home and safe now! That just goes to show you it is bad out even with less then a tenth inch of ice!
Justin in Lafayette
Yes it is very slick, Glad your aunt made it home safe Justin!
I cannot believe people did not learn for the other ice events just how dangerous or deadly the roads can be, even with the small amount that fell!
People shouldn't be driving if they don't know how to drive on a thin layer of ice. It isn't that hard really. One simple guideline, SLOW DOWN! Innocent people don't need to be getting hurt because of pure ignorance. There really is no excuse for it. If you are careful enough and aware that means shutting your cellphone OFF and actually driving with your hands on the wheel and watching the other cars and roadway then driving on ice can be like any other day you drive. It's not that difficult! Police officers have more productive things to do in this city than to be helping lots of people who have slid off the roadway due to ignorance on their own part. Stay home if you don't trust yourself to drive this morning or if you don't trust the other poor drivers. If you live in West Lafayette I strongly urge you to stay home because most people can't drive well there on a normal, sunny day and today is slippery!
How disappointing...
I'M really starting to think this is just about it for the direr air is just really moving in and tappering off what snow was left!
But again this is good if you don't like the icy stuff! Like I said we have been staying around 29 and 30 degrees all night and all morning so far. So even without this dry air we would be talking about icy mess right now rather then snow!
I will take nothing over ice!
Yes we do still have a thin cover of ice less then a tenth inch but from the reports already on here we really need to slow things down! And even if you have Four weel drive it will get you going faster but not slow you down any faster! SO PLEASE always be careful and take it SLOW! Allow yourself extra time!!
A lot of the roads are already Ice covered or becoming ice covered or Patchy ice! And Black ice is the worst kind!!
We need to get out of this icy pattern and stick with snow! I'M sure you all will agree!
Just take it slow and for Lafayette maybe still a few snow flurries but nothing big to report this time! However up around Newton and Jasper counties did see a little snow cover and little to no ice which is GREAT news!
Have a good day bloggers and be safe!
Justin in Lafayette
The poster is sure correct about people driving dangerously even on a clear sunny day. Thankfully we missed the snow. Our luck is holding there, but we need to miss these ice events. I know most would rather have snow than ice, but with the way people drive you would still see numerous accidents with the snow also. Always have. No winter precip please.
Starting my trek to Frankfort in a couple of minutes...
Hey up here in monticello, i did the route at 2, was done by 6;15 had nothing as far as precipition till around 5, started in sprinkles then sleet. but right now we have nothing, i told you ole man winter doesnt like us anymore,,,,,
Just wait till ole man showes himself in the way of bitter cold next week!
The wx advisory is now in effect till 4:00pm instead of 7:00pm for Tipp,Co.
Just curious as to what you guys watch/use in the way of radars and models. I'm a 911 dispatcher up in Monticello and kinda like to keep track what's going on weather wise for our police and fire. Any help would be great!
To the poster who stated that driving on a thin layer of ice is not that hard, I disagree! What you stated is very important, SLOW DOWN, AND KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL!
However, with this kind of ice in some cases Black Ice, the road can be dry, then out of no where you hit a patch of BLACK ICE, and lose control, no matter how fast one is driving!
I was driving to work last week, was an icy morning, I was going very slow. I was at a stop light waiting for the turn arrow, when I started turn, very slowly, my car started to slid into a lane of on coming traffic! I basicly was coasting, thats how slow I was going.
Yes many are careless in their driving but under certian situations there is just nothing one can do. I was very lucky that there were no cars in the lane my car slide into!
Its just like walking, you think your are fine then the next thing you know you fall down.
ICE IS BAD, And I have lost count of how many people have fallen, due to the ice events!
Jen,
A good site for weather info is www.nws.noaa.gov
Just click the various boxes such as radar, weather maps, etc and search the site. Water vapor image is a good on the radar page. Just play with the various maps and you will find alot of information.
It's snowing up here in Monticello, better late then never
Snowing and sleeting in Laf! getting very slick once again!
why are we not getting anymore weekend updates?? we sure need them with most of the nasty stuff happening on the weekends lately! We have to watch indy which I dont like,,rather have out station giveing us updates!
I don't believe anyone will need to gas their snowthrowers.
Here is a quick weekend forecast!
Tonight, Cloudy with a few more snow flurries. Not looking to amount to much! Lows in the low
20s.
Sunday, Cloudy with a few snow flurries! not adding to much! Highs in the upper 20s and lows in the low 20s
And Monday Few snow flurries not looking for much! Highs in the low to mid 20s and lows in the teens!

Justin
WHO IS GOING TO POST THE 100th BLOG?
OH ITS ME:) my its been busy! And I agree about not snow blower! A few snow showers and light sleet tonight, and dry tomorrow, it what I see
Justin you beat me to it you dirty rat LOL!!!! Kidding I hope you know!
What a big joke! I do not beleive any of the weather people anymore! They have been wrong everytime this winter! All we get is this ice and no snow. I don't understand why it doesn't snow here in Indiana anymore. In the 1970's we had a snowstorm once a week!! It is amazing that everyone around us has had snow, even, New Orleans, and we have had but a trace here in Crawfordsville.
We had alot of snow in Indiana last year more than our share, Thing change from year to year. Why are you not still in dipers anymore you used to be or are you still??? I used to have a bm every day now its every other!
Remember a forcast is just that, and weather is not an exact science. All that can be done from our "weather people" is to give is a heads up of what could possiably happen. Goodness "weather people" cannot control nature, get real, I can not believe I replied to such a foolish comment!
I also believe weather people do try. I think the problem this day and age is they rely to much on computers. The computers are only as good as the software and as we all have seen lately that's not to good. They just seem to live and die by what the models say when common sense and history would say that's not what's going to happen. In short, they just need to look out the window.
Years ago a weather person on the tube said you can't accurately predict the weather more than 10 to 12 hours in advance and then you will only be right 50% of the time. I believe that remains true today.
So listen to the weather folks, but remember they will be wrong as much as they are right. And if they are relying solely on computers they will be wrong more than they are right.
I guess most of the world is incorrect then! I feel we have been blessd with computers! Think of all of lives that have been saved by tracking tornados due to computers and weather people!
By the way it is the NWS who issues the the warnings, watches, adviorsies.
Today they were correct, we did indeed have ice, and many accidents resulted due to.Could have been horriable, some heeded to the warning of possiable ice/snow and delayed their traveling plans. Good that they had a head up for the roads in many areas were dangerous!
I would rather be informed of what could happen, and to be ready than not!
I am thankful for the "weather people" and radars!
If commuters are so good, where is all the snow that they have forecast? Why didn't they say a day slot would work in. Don't be so defensive. There is a place for the commuter, but a person must analyze that information plus existing conditions, history of the region and other factors and make a common sense forecast. I just don't believe they always do that.
Remember I didn't say they were always wrong.
One should heed warnings, but don't plan your life around a forecast from a machine.
Boy, you just can't say anything and some think your bashing the weather guy. But enjoyed your reply. That's what blogs are for. Same for the post from Crawfordsville. Everyone should be able to post even if we don't agree.
The forecast for today was a mix changing to snow around 8am with 1 to 2 inches. We had ice all day. Hardly on accurate forecast.
Hmmmm...very emotional people.
Hmm... who is this "commuter" that can predict the weather that you speak of? I'd like the meet him/her. =-P
(I'm not trying to fan a fire- just cracking a weak joke!)
Anyway, I'm fairly certain that computers have alleviated a lot of the calculations weather(wo)men used to do by hand.
Think about it- a storm track is influenced by several factors each requiring complicated calculus to figure out. Instead of taking 2-3 hours to plot one storm track, and thus all day to plot several, they can now plug the data into the software and get the tracks in a fraction of the time.
It is more accurate (computers rarely mess up an equation), faster, and allows the weather(wo)men to analyze the information better before making a call.
Just my 2 cents.
Okay gang, so we did not get the snow most were hoping for,
The facts are that radars are moving maps for weather experts, gives them an idea of what could happen so they can keep us updated.
Chicago did get quite a bit of snow! It missed our vewing area by a couple hundred miles, not that far off!
I am wondering why all the nay sayig, why even check the forcast on the"computer"? If all are so wrong as some say 50% of the time?
Why not do it the old fashion way and look out your window for the forcast? then you would have no one to blame but yourself for being snowed in with out being prepared or for what ever mother nature has to give us.
Perhaps a horse and buggy should be your way of transport instead of a modern day vehical! and use a couier pigon to send a message to some one across town instead of a phone! perhaps mail a letter instead of using email! What ever give it a break, and I would like to hear your forcast for the next weather system...to come.
OH MY, was just checking in! Alot to read here!
I think we all need a little sunshine, I have mine!
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
The snow, snow, snow stayed away, hey, hey, hey!
The forecast was "right on"
for Fulton County. We started with the freezing precipitation, changed to snow, and ended the day with about four-five inches of snow. The only flaw in the forecast was the storm did not start at the forecasted start time of Friday Evening. I do know that the most northern counties in Indiana did receive their forecasted snow.
Who the heck is this Alicia Roman girl on WLFI?
I dont know why people even get so worked up about the weather. It is kinda pointless. Its just weather... Who cares what the forecast is if it is wrong most of the time anyways? Im finished watching/reading any forecasts. I will just be using my own two eyes looking up at the sky and ground. Pretty accurate.. We really dont need to be warned about ice and snow unless it is HUGE. We dont need to know two weeks in advance that we MIGHT get an inch or two of snow. Anyone could do a weather forecast.
Because the regular bloggers are wx fans and love to track storms! We try to keep each other informed of what is happening in our areas!
As Mike had stated, "Our postings can help save lives"!
For example, MA in Rem, was hit by a bad ice storm a couple of weeks ago, She kept us updated, and for those who needed to travel North were forwarned! The same goes for those who need to travel South, its nice to know what conditions are like!
And we do need to be to be warned of ice, as you should know from reading the blog, many accidents happend yesterday, even with the small amount that fell!
Also there are the elderly, Who may need refills on meds or necessities. Gives us time to make sure they are taken care of if indeed bad weather does hit! Better safe than sorry!
I wonder how mike did on his run in Florida, that was a nice little break for him.
Can you believe it, we are flying right through January. But, that is okay, January, February can fly by all it wants. Just think, the days will start getting gradually longer. I love that! I cannot wait until spring, I am already planning things to do to my yard, things I wish I had done last summer.
Well I cant wait till winter. In the summer I plan things to do in my yard in January and Febuary, but I dont think those thing will happen this year.
Another big dissapointing Indiana winter. You would think I would be used to it by now!
If you followers of Mike want to know how he did on his run the results are online. Great run Mike!
where at are the results of his run and when is he coming back ?? i sure miss his updates,,
Mike, if you read our silly comments a couple of questions about your run. I saw what your pace was. Is that the about the pace you expected to run? Did the warmer weather affect you any? In general it would be nice to hear your recap of your race. Again, congratulations on your successful run.
Quick Cast!
TONIGHT Few snow flurries Starting just after 3:pm this evening. Low in the low teens! Winds between 5 and 10 mph will make it feel around 0* tonight!
MONDAY Few snow showers. Snowfall will be less then a half inch. Starting late Monday into Tuesday. Highs in the upper 20s and lows in the low teens. Winds between 10 and 15 mph will make our low feel around -4 degrees Dress warm if you go out!
TUESDAY Cold Highs in the teens and lows in the single digets. Few snow flurries. Windy between 15 and 20 mph. Possible gusts to 25 maybe 30 mph at times. We will really have to watch the wind chills for they could be dangerous!
This is all as of 12:36pm.
Also our next chance for seeing snow will be on Wednesday! We will all watch that and keep everybody updated! For now I feel it is still a little far to give any amount ideas!
Have a great day Fellow Bloggers!Eli Manning plays his playoff game today! Just thought I would let you all know! Have a good one!
Justin.
Some one added this link to Mike's blog.HamWx Chase Blog: Tim Vasquez's Books! Dont waste your time looking at it!
Justin,
You seem to know a lot about meteorology. If you don't mind my asking, what do you do for a living? Thanks, Alex
Hey Justin, I know from the blog you love track weather! It's a hobby right? If someone on the blog asked me such personal question as far as what I did for a living I would not answer! Not their business!!!!!
fellow blogger!
That's was a very polite request. Of course he doesn't have to answer. I was just wandering if his background helped him gain the knowledge. The post didn't require your silly response. By the way i work in a factory. Gee, that didn't seem so personal.
Alex
flashback... are we in high school again ?? lol come on ppl .. lighten up .. and practice whats preached.. if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all.. or in this case "type"....
its this reason exactly why i dont read the comments most of the time... some ppl tend to get very immature very quickly.. and its sad for those of us who like to blog, comment, and chat about weather.. when some of you put negative comments in one way or another... it just ruins it for the rest of us...
"turned off" blogger
Brandon ( S>I.)
Your right Brandon. This blog is about weather and should stay that way. I was just impressed with Justin's knowledge of weather. I know he does another blog on weather and he does a nice job. I thought maybe he was a science teach or something that helped him. I love watching the weather.
So I'm out here. Not my intention to upset people over such a common question.
Have a sunny day,
Alex
Hey Alex,
I don't mind your question! I'M still in school!!
Otherwise I do a lot of work for my neighbors! Just about every week!
And Thank you!
Justin.
Sorry if my post to Justin offended some, that was not my intention!
Yes Alex, was a polite request to Justin.
This is a friendly blog, and many of us have been posting for over a year, at times on a daily bases. Just so many bitter folks on here lately!
I am sure Justin will answer your question.
Once again sorry if I offended anyone.
Oh My! This update just came in.
Another Winter Storm Brewing:Overnight skies will remain mostly cloudy and flurries will come to an end. Highs Monday will reach the low 30s, as snow showers develop and move in Monday evening. Light snow accumulations of up to an inch are possible south of I-70. North of I-70 one to two inches of snow is possible. Tuesday temperatures drop during the day, bottoming out in the single digits. Cold arctic air will take hold and stick with us through the rest of the work week.
Teri In Laf.
I just heard that there are two Alberta clippers on their way. The first one is coming Monday night. Both of these are expected to have snow and high winds causing decrease visibility and drifting.
Here we go again, another roller coaster ride on the Indiana Weather track!

Oh dear, the forcast sounds HORRIBLE!! Hey Justin have you heard from Brow? He has not been posting lately.
Teri
Sorry Teri Have not seen him as well!! NOw you got me wanting to know! :)
Here is how things look!
Monday. Highs in the upper 20s to low 30s lows in the low teens! Few snow flurries in the early morning and late evening. Does not look to add up to much. However we will need to watch the winds and wind chills at night! Winds between 10 and 15 mph. We can look for stronger winds later on in the evening. With gusts to up around 30 mph this will make our lows with wind chill fee like around -11* degrees!
Tuesday highs will only be around 14* degrees and winds between 10 and 20 mph with some gusts to 28 mph at times! Our low around 9* degrees with wind chill our high will feel like around -4* and our low around -2* as the winds should start to let up a bit! Snowfall around an inch or less!
Wednesday is still the clipper we are watching and currently we could see between 1 and 2 inches and up north maybe the 2 to 4 inch range! Now I would like to add that with clipper systems we do not always see big snows! We really most of the time see one to two inches! But I still will keep watch! For in Indiana we never know for sure! And nothing is ever set in stone!
Now also it is still three days away! And I can tell you it will change again! So I will update you on it again later!
I know a lot of people want snow and a lot wish it would stay away! Well the reason we have not seen as much snow as we did last year is now we are in a alberta clipper setup! As to last year we seen the La-nina jet stream! Which was good if you liked snow! But it did last to long into our summer which can make Thunderstorm a lot more fierce.
This year with the alberta clipper setup we see snows but they are less amounts! as you all have seen!
But there is still a lot of winter so we will just have to see how things work out! ;-)
Justin.
Hey everyone, I am here! Thanks for thinking about me. :)
I was pretty busy trying to get a site launched over the weekend and didn't get a chance to come up for air.
I am still VERY upset about not getting snow on Saturday...but it looks like we may get another chance?!
So many comments...is this a record?
You can check out Mike's race info here guys:
http://results.active.com/pages/searchform.jsp#hot_links
Way to go Mike!!!
Now, off to do the work of the day.
Annie in Attica
lol...ok that did not work. sorry!
I just went to www.disney.go.com And then searched for the 2009 World Marathon...
Annie in Attica
NOAA wx radio just went off for a BLIZZARD warning! I dont ever remember that happening! Midnight tonight until noon tomorrow. Laf area not included yet..only down to Benton County. BUT...IF we all get more than an inch of snow ( I have seen roads closed with only an inch due to white out conditions) AND those winds, be sure of road closings and delays/cancellations.
Brow I think your snow is coming!
MA in REM
BROW if you see this may i ask what site you are launching? Since I am up here just west of you I am curious. Would love to have a weather blog or info from someone up here. The wx is so different between here and Laf area. usually St Rd #18 is the dividing line, both summer and winter.
MA in REM
Yes Blizzard warnings out up north!
And Us in Lafayette could feel like one as well! We have High winds coming and looking like at least one inch of snow!
TONIGHT Low in the low teens with a few snow flurries. Winds between 10 and 20 mph after 7:pm. Some gusts to near 38 mph. Wind chills will be dangerous low for the next few days!
TUESDAY Few snow showers. New snowfall around one inch. Winds between 10 and 20 mph gusts to 25 mph.
WEDNESDAY This is what we need to watch! Most of the maps and models are looking for 1" to 2" inch range for the Lafayette area! And maybe 2" to 4" up north! Winds however will be between 25 and 30 mph with high gusts to near 45 mph at times. Snow is expected to be in the morning! This will make driving very hard! So we need to be ready! I will keep watching this closely! Like Mary anne said one inch of snow and high winds you can lose visibility!
Again please be aware of the wind chills! Dangerous cold!!!!
Justin.
Nothing weather related but the site is called: www.cscartskins.com
Actually I do have product called "PlainRain" and plan to do a snow version. :)
I actually have been dreaming about getting my own personal weather station going with some software that Justin suggested awhile back...which will be connected to the web to all to check out...but I need to save up for that one.
Yes, we will get that snow!
I think for tonight into Tuesday most of us could see around an inch and a quarter of snow!
With the gusty winds!
Justin
Brow,
Like the site. I don't get a chance to do the fun stuff like that. I do all the networking, Code repair, etc... When it comes to computers I am the guy in the dungeon/behind the curtain making it all play nice. William in Remington

... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 1 PM EST TUESDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BLOWING SNOW AND COLD TEMPERATURES... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 1 PM EST TUESDAY.
A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING A COLD FRONT THROUGH CENTRAL INDIANA. SNOW WILL BEGIN LATER TONIGHT AND SPREAD THROUGH CENTRAL INDIANA INTO THE MORNING RUSH HOUR. AS THE COLD FRONT PASSES THROUGH... WIND WILL BEGIN TO PICK UP IN SPEED AND WILL PRODUCE WIND GUSTS 25 TO 30 MPH. THIS WILL CAUSE ANY SNOW THAT HAS FALLEN OR IS FALLING TO BLOW AROUND CREATING HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. VISIBILITY IN THE BLOWING SNOW COULD DROP BELOW ONE MILE AT TIMES ON TUESDAY MORNING.
IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... TEMPERATURES WILL DROP SHARPLY THROUGH THE DAY ON TUESDAY. BY NOON TIME... TEMPERATURES WILL HAVE DROPPED INTO THE TEENS ROUGHLY ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 70. SOUTH OF THE INTERSTATE TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 20S BY LUNCH TIME.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT VISIBILITIES WILL BE LIMITED DUE TO STRONG WINDS BLOWING SNOW AROUND. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING... ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS.
Teri in Laf
Teri,
Have I showed you this link?
http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.php
Kinda cool.
william in remington
Looking at the Jetstream and the low that is fueling this clipper looks like most of the heavy snow will stay north of hwy24. I am not an expert in any way but looks like south of hwy24 will only see fluries and wind. On the back side of this low lake effect snow could be a problem on Tuesday's commute. That will be difficult to guess at as the winds could pick up the fluffy snow up north and blow is down south. Just my opinion.
William in Remington
William, thanks for sharing the link, I cool! I posted last night, another roller coaster ride for Indiana weather!
Has been interesting tracking though!
I remember last year, around this time, snow starting falling, a couple of hours before dimissal.
There was not much snow but the winds were fierce. What normally took me 10 mins, to get home from work, took 45 min. for there were white out and blowing snow conditions!
Teri in Laf
I just checked in with my mother, made sure she had all she needed, just in case of bad weather. She gets out and around, but cant in bad weather!
WHERE IS MIKE??????????
Winter storm warning for counties north of Fulton/Pulaski and blizzard warning for Porter County and other counties to the west. All warnings effective as of tonight through tomorrow evening. Now, a blizzard watch has been issued for Wed. afternoon for all of Michiana, which would include Pulaski and Fulton Counties.
South bend is still forecasting double digit, negative lows for Thursday night. This is due to the heavy snow cover at this time, and expected clearing skies.
I am like so many people. I am caught right between Lafayette and South Bend forecasts.
Does anyone know when mike will be back, guess i better bundle up in the morning, for thoes paper routes,,,Becky in Monticello
Yes Becky be safe, all be safe! And do bundle up! Who knows what the weather will be, I just checked radars, and the snow is already starting to move in! Temp around 31 in Tipp Co
Why is there not a weather adviorsy on TV 18! I called my friend to tell her, she does not have a computer and missed the news! That would help those who dont have computers or cable!
Yes we do see the snow moving in on radar! We will see it between now and 8:pm so anytime now!
I know a lot of sites are not giving out snowfall amounts for Wednesday so I will give you all an idea here in just a min! First I wanted to show you all what I have for tonight into tomorrow!
Snow showers starting anytime now! For Lafayette snowfall is looking between 1" and 2" inch range! However I think we will be closer to a inch and a quarter!
Newton and Jasper counties! Are looking like the 1" to 3" inch range however I think they will stay closer to 2" inches! It will be dangerous travel with winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph! Blowing snow WILL be a PROBLEM!
Now again Wednesday snowfall is still ((to far to call)) but here is how it looks tonight!
Lafayette 1" to 3" inches! With winds between 15 and 20 mph and gusts to 38 to 40 mph. Newton and Jasper counties closer to the 2" to 4" inch range! However one model map is showing newton and jasper with a possible 3" to 5" inches! This is why it is still tricky at this time! But again High winds will be a BIG ISSUE!
We will all just have to keep an eye on it and keep all updated!
Justin in Lafayette
I don't believe anything until I see it. I learned that from the last "storm" we had.
Crazy weather Justin, I am soo worried about the winds, temps and the storm that is to follow this one! Looks a bit foggy out, not bad though!
Teri in Laf
Another dry slot with this storm too??
Yes Teri All we can do is take it day by day! Like I said though the snowfall amounts I have posted above for Wednesday! Is still up in the air! We will have a more strong amount the closer it gets!
I will have to call my aunt and tell her about this wild weather for tonight into tomorrow! The wind chills and less visibility is what get's me!
Justin
I know Justin, we are now getting a light dusting of snow! I just hope all realize how dangerous the temps can be!
And Oh my goodness, we had the fire hydrent issue Sat! Now Last night we had a house fire near by! I walked out side, I smelled smoke, thought at first it was someones fireplace, then heard the sirens....sigh!
Teri
WOW! And yes about the dangerous temperatures! I have called all I know and filled them in the the latest!!!
I to have a light dusting on the ground! And we have the moisture with this batch of snow!
Justin.
Snow flakes are getting big! really pretty, for right now at least! Goodness like I stated, I do not like what is to follow!
Teri in Laf
Hey Teri I have my radar pulled up and I see a Moderate band of snow over the Lafayette area! So I looked outside and I have nice Quarter size snow flakes!
It is really nice and calm outside! It is a fact that the snow absorbs sound and that is why it seems so calm when it snows!
Justin in Lafayette
Hey bloggers That heavy band of snow is getting bigger as it i is making its way to Monticello, Delphi, and Logansport,
Just so you know! I think Brow is in Monticello? He should be happy!
Justin.
So after this passes we are done with snow? I dont see anymore after this, then just wind. Looks to be moving fast
justin???
so are these blizzard warnings i have seen on the bottom of the weather channel for us seriously?? yahoo. !!! Becky from Monticello, its snowing here too
Becky are you talking about wx channel on TV? I ahve been watching and have seen nothing on TV! Darn!
Tipp Co
Hey!
This snow will be going off and on through the night into the morning!
Rather it is light snow flakes to heavy snow flakes!
The winds will be moving in a little later on tonight!
Justin.
where is it coming from? south north? I dont see anymore after this?? and whats with the blizzard Becky posted?
Snow on radar is up north and west ! Of Indiana Here is a winter radar link you can use!
http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?animate=true
We do have the moisture this time so things look likely for snow!
We may see a break here before long then we should see more snow by early morning!
The radar I use Storm Predator gets you closer and sometimes it shows more then the other radars do!
Hope this helps!
Justin.
on the bottom of the weather channell here its 37, they have been saying blizzard watches, but i wasnt sure if it was for us
i figured it was to good to be true for us, Becky in monticello, by the way whens mike coming back
the blizzard watch must be closer to you than us in tipp co. but could be blizzard like conditions?
dont you do the J&C? gosh be careful if its you?
it is i, iam hoping for a snow day out of this, would be so nice to get to sleep thru the night for once
All be safe tonight and in the morning! Justin, keep up the good work! The winds are starting to pick up a bit. I bet it will wake me!
I will be wondering about school delays or cancellations.
would be so nice to get a old fashion blizzard one that lasted for 2 days or more then took a week to dig out
a couple of days off sounds good
As usual not a speck of snow, so far, down here in Crawfordsville. It's snowing in Champaign, Lafayette, Greencastle, Indy--But, not one flake here in Crawfordsville!!! I just don't understand it. It's almost like there is a 'force field' around Crawfordsville deflecting the snow! This happens all the time and just makes me crazy! Enjoy the snow everybody-else!
Well darn, time for me to get some sleep, at least I will try!. Becky be very carful stay safe! I hope you will get your full nights sleep:)
I wake at 5:00 am. to get ready for work!
Justin, get some rest too LOL!
The snow has tappered off at this time but the wind is picking up. Gee cant wait for clipper #2:( I will never get any sleep:)
Teri
I know how you feel Teri! I have been soooooooooooooooo busy with weather this week it is not even funny!
I have so many things going on right now!
But I can do it! :) I don't think I have been getting to bed till 2:am just about every night this week!
I'M trying to get done early but got to get another forecast ready! Then maybe I can head off to bed! I'll check back in a few!
And Yes all do be careful out their this morning!
Justin.
iam to wired to try and sleep, i do my best sleeping after my routes. justin i must say you do a very good job reporting while mikes away. wether its a hobby or what you are good. doesnt apper to be snowing very much outside, here in monticello. are they saying we have another one coming in as well afetr this one. ??
What the heck is going on? It is 35 degrees in Crawfordsville and the radar shows that it is raining!! What happened to this cold clipper with the 1-2 inches? I give up!
Well I thank you very much! I just want all to be with the latest while Mike is away!
Right now it is looking like light snow flurries through the night! Not much!
I do have a forecast coming your way here in a few! I'M still working on it! ;)
Justin.
Believe me we have cold coming! We have a cold front that is working it's way through our area tonight!
We should feel much cold by tomorrow!
Justin.
OK here we go!
TUESDAY.
Highs in the High teens With some left over snow showers that should tapper off by sometime around 8:am. Lows in the single digits. New snowfall amounts for Lafayette areas around an inch! New snowfall for areas around Newton and Jasper counties around 2" inches. Winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph at times.
WEDNESDAY.
Snowfall is still tricky for this one! But here is what the maps show this evening! Highs in the single digits and lows in the single digits. Snow showers. New snowfall for Lafayette between 1" and 3" inches however one map is showing 1" to 2" inches! We will have to watch this system closely! New snowfall amounts for Newton and Jasper counties is between 2" and 4" inches! With winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph!. With wind chills it will be dangerous cold! Frost bite weather! Here is a link you a can pull up to see how cold it will feel!
http://www.weatherimages.org/data/windchill.html
And for the rest of the week this cold pattern will stick with us until closer to the weekend! So you have something to look forward to! I know I have a lot of my family and friends asking me when will the cold move out and I tell them look forward to the weekend! Lets just hope that forecast holds! :-)
We will start to feel colder because of the Big cold fronts making there way through our areas! starting tonight! As the wind chills get dangerous I would keep a warm blanket in your car just to be safe!!!
Have a good night Bloggers! I will see you all here tomorrow!!!
Justin.
It is now 37 degrees and it is raining in Crawfordsville!! Now this rain was not even remotely forecasted. I give up, goodnight!
OK< this is my forecast. Disregard everything about having 1-3 inches tonight. This is another overblown, overforcasted, over reliance on computer models joke! It is raining right now and by the time the cold front gets here the moisture will be gone! Another, wrong forecast weather people! Now about the 7th wrong forecast for snow.
what the heck??? all the snow is gone! I just woke and looked out, its all gone. not even a trace! Everything was snow coverd at 11:00
Shoot!!!
In Laf we did get an inch of snow last night! But all melted by during early morning! But the weather people were right, we did get snow!!!!
Why are weather forecasters overestimating our snow all of the time? This is ridiculous.
I have a few reports of snow I wanted to post!
Two reports from up in jasper county have 1.9" and 1.5" of snow almost two inches and was forecasted to have 1 to 2 inches.
Tippecanoe report of a half inch and I seen a half inch last night. Was forecasted to see around an inch!
And it is snowing right now!
Well if we did get any substantial snow, it would be a lot. The snow was thick with big snow flakes. If the system had some big moisture, it would be a big one. It didn't.
Which is okay. I am glad January is going fast.
TONIGHT.
COLD! Lows in the single digits. Below zero with wind chills! Few real light snow flurries.
WEDNESDAY.
COLD!! Highs in the LOW teens and lows around zero. The alberta clipper will start to move in by 5:am or 6:am as of now! Snowfall currently is not all that much! Lafayette areas around 1" and 3" inch range! Which means we could see snowfall arouns an inch and a half or two! Snowfall for Newton and Jasper counties are looking for the 2" to 4" inch range. Which means they could see snowfall around 2" inches. Winds are now not expected to be as strong as they where yesterday! We could now see winds between 10 and 15 mph with 20 to 25 mph gusts! If this snow is a light and fluffy snow it will still blow around with now problem!! So always be careful!!
And remember the cold below zero wind chills will still be with us until closer to the weekend! But that gives us all something to look forward to!!
Also still be careful out driving here is a few road reports from the Lafayette Brookston areas and ares around.
