Alright! Our new data in still suggests we have another 2 to 3 inches of snow on the way with most of it occurring between now and 6 a.m. Tomorrow's snow looks light with an inch or less additional accumulations. We have reached 3" here at WLFI.
The main low pressure is now in northern Kentucky and ready to move to our southeast. This means we will transition to the drier side of the storm over the next few hours with our potential for any big surprises or heavy snow bands stalling over the area quickly diminishing. I do think we will have most of the Lafayette area finish in the 4 to 6 inch range with those isolated 8 inch totals for Montgomery and Clinton Counties. Logansport and Monticello will likely end up close to 4 inches of snow before all is said and done. North of Highway 24, I see totals closer to 3 inches. A big thanks to all our bloggers again. I do think we can get a few hours of sleep tonight based on what I am seeing. Be very careful in the morning that is for sure. Keep those totals coming in. I will check on the snow off and on throughout the night and if anything changes I will be back. For now though it is time to get a little rest so we can have fun in the snow tomorrow.

I am very happy with the snow we are getting in Frankfort. Thanks for the update Mike and know that I never doubted you!!!
I plan to stay up til 2 or so....just because I want to see heavy snow!!!! I am hoping!! I will do a new snow measurement soon...I am sure that my school will be closed tomorrow....
C in T
Thank you for the update Mike. You are one of a kind!!! Now just send us blue skies so we can get some very good photographs.
Richard
I don't see where he has been wrong with this storm. Snowfall accumulation predictions are within a range....and he said 3-6 and then 5-8....you will probably end up there...
C in T
Thanks for the update Mike!!
thats ok the prang gang will stick with him thick and thin,,,,
Mike was saying we would get this snow way before any other forecaster/ weather service did. Way to go Mike! :-)
rs, iam going to bed, be carefull
Thanks for the update Mike. Now it is off to bed so I can get up at 7 and see if the kids have school. Night all!!! And be careful out there.
I wonder if TSC schools will be closed tomorrow, if not at least a 2 hour delay?! How much snow does it generally take to do it? From what I've heard, the roads are dangerous to drive on...
YOU*
I'm not seeing any closings or delays on their page.
Does Mike ever blog with us, or does he just post? I would love to know if he sees blowing/drifting concerns once the storm passes! Going out now to do a measurement.
C in T
Radar still looks good to the west and SW!
I cpied and pasted what the Anon person said and added a reply in caps
I can officially take the Christmas Tree down. I wanted to watch the snow come down in the window, with the pretty lights. And tonight it has been a beautiful sight! I don't want to go to bed and miss the awesomeness of it. But, alas, I must...morning comes all too early!
Thanks Mike and WLFI weather team for your hard work!! And thanks to God for the beautiful handiwork tonight :)
Annie in Attica
Snow started a little over 12 hours ago here....we are now at 5.8 inches in Tipton. We are avg. almost 1/2 inch per hour.....as an average. We are getting moderate snow at this time.
C in T
It was meant for the 1st anon post anyway.
Great Job Mike!! Crawfordsville appreciates you and your early predictions. Name me another weather man who would stay up to keep us up to date?? Good Job again Mike!!
:) God Bless you all and have a wonderful night. It is bedtime for me. Take care Bloggers and be safe!
Richard
This is a NICE blog. I personally hate snow. But, was glad that MIKE WAS RIGHT ON! GO Mike!
You must not read or post very often...we talked last night about how Mike is so beyond Lafayette....he could easily work in a large market. Models are guides...and they are not perfect by any means. Scientists still do not totally understand the atmosphere and why it does what it does. Forecasting is not an exact science.

C in T,
You seem pretty sure that schools will be closed in Tipton. What's your prediction about Tippecanoe County? =)
alot of variables other than computers
The problem is...I don't know your superintendent(s). Based upon what I have seen this winter...I would say you have a 75% chance of closing....especially if you get 3 more inches of snow. I am at 6 inches now...with 2-4 more to go...
Plus- I know that our superintendent will not risk it in this kind of wx...
C in T
You will learn that superintendents communicate, and look at what other districts in the area are doing. For example...here....I look at Elwood, TRI-CENTRAL which is in Tipton Co...Clinton Central...Taylor and Eastern....if they close/delay, we will too....esp Tri-Central.
C in T
Still not quite 2 inches here in Logan. Has been snowing since around 4. Thinking maybe the other forecasts of 1-3 may end up closer to the mark. I doubt school closes here, possibly a delay, but maybe not even that as long as their is no blowing and drifting. This storm isn't as bad as the one 2 weeks ago in my opinion that gave us almost 5 inches. Lot of hype, but not much substance. The good stuff is south, which is what most people predicted all along.
WILLARD WATTS!!!!! Oh my gosh....I do remember him....what, 20 years ago?! Back when I could get WLFI over the air!!! Angela was on WLFI?!? I didn't know that!
C in T
thanks Mike and goodnight!!! Happy Sled day tomarrow!!!!
You have to remember....even 24 hours ago....a lot of TV/NWS people were calling for the heavy snow to be Indy south.....this has progressed north each run.... I feel bad for Mike...he has done a killer job with this storm....and he will end up being RIGHT!
C in T
I forgot about the GONG!!!! Gosh...that WAS a long time ago...
C in T
Mike is a great person, a wonderful family man and goes that extra mile when he does not have to. He also puts alot of his time in the community.
No, anonymous bitter person is here to just stir things up. We all know Mike was right on this one. GET OVER IT!
Thanks C in T!
Well said Pam.. my thoughts exactly.. as posted below you :-)
Hey Mike Three inches here and still counting!
Justin.
Leave Pam alone!
And now I am done with rude and bitter anonymous person. Good night all! I can't wait to wake up and see all the snow in the morning!!
I don't - I always post my name...or initials...
Chris (C) in Tipton (T)
Also, we aren't complaining about the anonymous part.. just the being rude part.

Wow. I don't think we are too far behind of you here in Clinton Co. Yay for a lot of snow!
ANGELA in Clinton Co...

Looks like school is on here in Monticello for now, snow isnt too bad yet, will see how it looks in the morning.
Sleep well & Be Safe!
Pam

Judges....and Juries....YES police officers.....televangalists.... doctors at times....bookies....lawyers....cooks.....waiters.....
EVERYONE HUMAN!!!!
The thing is....people who rely on things outside of their control CAN and SHOULD be wrong. IN THIS CASE....MIKE IS/WILL BE RIGHT!!!! I am already nearly 7 inches....
Chris in Tipton
approximately 3 inches since 8pm in Monticello, im judging by looking on my car which i parked around 8pm..it had no snow on it then. There was about 2 inches before hand so being the untrained weather person Im guessing about 5 so far here.
I think people talk about other things simply because we are all waiting out the storm..nothing wrong with that.
Hey! I enjoy Sylvia when she is on Montel.... LOL!
Chris in Tipton
I do too. LOL. But, she is wrong all the time :-)
Quite heavy snow right now here...
Chris in Tipton
LOL thats funny awhile back Sylvia was on Montel and she said that Clinton would run for office again. My daughter and i couldnt figure it out because he had done his 8 years already...then this year we were like WoW she was right!! At the time we didnt think about Hilary running!! LOL
to chris and justin i have ioved weather since i was a kid. no one is perfect. the ones that post neg things dont know a thing about weather. alvin
I have gotten to see heavy snow....so I am going to bed soon. I still don't have a delay..or closing....so I need rest JUST IN CASE....although I am sure we will close....I will take a shower and then do another snow report before going to bed....
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! I HOPE WE ALL END UP WITH MORE THAN 6" acc!
Chris in Tipton
Hey everybody! I'M about to head to bed and I see my name being talked about in this mess going on and I just want to clear something up! That was not me!please keep me out of this! lol.
I have 3.2" here in Lafayette and still coming down.
I will catch you all here in the morning! got a few more things to look at first! Night all.
Justin.
I have been the same Alvin....ever since the tornado outbreak in 74....I was hooked....
Chris in Tipton
Thanks Justin, i will watch for your morning snow amounts before i drive to lafayette!
Sleep well!
Justin,
How much snow do you think Lafayette will have by 7 AM...and more accumulation after that yet?
Thanks!
Chris in Tipton,
My daughter will personally thank you if we end up with 6 inches and school shut tomorrow :)
Blizzard of 78.....the measuring stick of all storms.....what a week!!! What a winter!!!!!!!!!
Chris in Tipton
As hard as it is snowing here....I am sure we are over 7" now..... GOOD LUCK TO ALL KIDS WANTING A SNOW DAY TOMORROW!!! Teachers too!! LOL!!!
Chris in Tipton
i recall 74 i was 6 .iam up tonite taking opps for nws alvin
I was 4 in 74.....and I remember watching those old black and white radars looking for hook echos.....isn't that funny?!! We have come such a long way with technology....
C in T
Well we have 3.2" inches right now. If we keep going at the speed we are going then and hit the expected bigger snow bands then I would say closer to 4 1/2" maybe to 5" inches. I still call between the 5" and 8" which is right around 6" to 6" and a half inches. when all is over.
We will see! I know there is a lot of beautiful mother nature out there right now! ;)
Justin.
7.3 inches of new snow since 12:45 pm yesterday.....
Chris in Tipton
thanks Justin!
hey chris got to go for now nice chating with you. i will talk to you later thanks alvin
Same to you Alvin!
Chris in Tipton
Roads not good, snow is definately heavy with it coming down so fine. My gut tells me that we could be suprised before this is all over with due to the fact that the moisture is still rolling on on the gulf coast and still heading this way. Spoke with my sister down in Tulsa, OK earlier tonight, she said that the ice and sleet warning was originally scheduled to end at 6:00 pm last night but was extended until 6:00 am this morning a good twelve hours longer than what the weather service originally thought. With the storms path still coming this way, could be interesting day ahead of us indeed.
RockinRoger
I know what you are saying....I am not a college trained meteorologist....I am a college trained science teacher.....I have gotten a lot of my weather training from talking to weather people over the past 20 years....
A lot of forecasting is gut instinct.
The low is in our area now...that means the bulk of the moisture will be outta here by 5AM. Then we get the wrap around and the little streamers that come up this way....I would guess that most locations have another 2-3....maybe 4-5 closer to Indy and east....ahead of us....
Chris in Tipton
Mike!!
Check in soon.....
Chris in Tipton
I'M having a hard time pulling myself away from this desk! lol.
I still think that is things go as planed we could see another 2" to 4" inches add on to what we have which would make Lafayette right at 6" and a half with a chance for 7"inches! We will see as the night goes on!
Justin.
Justin....
All you need to do is look downstram at radar....3 inches more is very realistic for Laf. 3-4 for my area...and I am already over 7"!!!
Chris in Tipton
Looking at the radar looks great!!!
My mother who is 60....texted me and said that she is up to 9 inches of new snow in Cicero...Hamilton Co.
I still say that the bullseye will be from I-70 to southern Boone-Hamilton-Madison Co....10-13 inches possible there....!!!!!
Chris in Tipton
Yes I'M staying with this system I will not call it over just yet!
This has been a tricky system and has moved all over! It is one that needs to be stayed with!
Justin.
The NWS - whom I am pissed off at....is calling for another 1-3 inches tomorrow during daylight hours..
C in T
We have to be over 8" now.....it is snowing so hard....
C in T
It is now 3:15 am.....we are at 8.1 inches of new snow.....snow still falling hard!!!!!!
Chris in Tipton
I still think for now I will keep us in the middle of the 5" to 8" range right around 5" to 6 1/2" inches.
Justin.
It looks like we have received around three inches of snow in Rochester. Of course, I live in town, and the buildings and the wind can cause distortions in the snow piles.
There may be some school delays, but unless the winds increase, I do not see any school closings in this area. Too many of the schools have used their snow days, and as we know, school corporations, along with a majority of the staff, do not like to "tack" on days at the end of the year. Sad statement, but it is true.
F/C
SE Tippecanoe County has received several inches of snow...and there is little traffic running through my subdivision as well as on the highway.
Yes Tippecanoe County is terrible right now and looks like more is on the way.
TSC is so slow.
I have been watching the South Bend news, and yes, even South Bend is getting snow at this time. What a storm!!!!
Rochester and Warsaw schools are now on a two-hour delay. This storm must haved tracked farther north, since these two schools, including Whitko in Whitley County, have delayed.
F/C
Not even a delay for LSC Crazy
Yea both WLCSC and LSC should be closed today. I live in the TSC district but that is ridiculous to be sending kids to school and school buses out in this.
you know i am glad i planned ahead.. with what to do with my kids today.. glad i thought cause now they dont have school... now i have to go shovel my driveway so i can get out of it.. fun fun

To the rude people out there posting about Mike being wrong, let me see 24 hours ago both the Weather Channel and NWS were calling for up to an inch of snow...I believe I have almost 6 inches which is the range Mike was calling for and he continues to keep us updated while balancing his life. I believe he has been VERY accurate this winter season. Then again if it makes them feel better to bash the best there is a special place for you at some point. Mike pours his heart and soul not only into his job, but also our community. He gives back more than he will ever receive, especially these negative comments.
So I do really hope that Anonymous @ 12:48am likes his KoolAid today. Nice job Mike, you rock.
