Ready for Another Gorgeous Sunset Before Real January Weather Closes In!

Hello! It is a good thing I am covering all shifts. These maps are going crazy! I did have to add in a chance of patchy freezing drizzle tomorrow morning. Better safe than sorry. Ice amounts will be less than .05", but all ice is bad ice. Things are moving very quickly on the weather map with not one but two powerful jet streams!

Update on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week: Latest storm track trends farther south and east which means our mix of snow and rain may in fact be more snow than rain.

Next WEEKEND: An arctic outbreak which may be preceded by a snowstorm! Highs stuggle into the teens and 20s with lows near zero.

January 11-20: Well below average temperatures with good chances of snow!

January 20-31st: THE BIG THAW HITS AS PACIFIC JET TAKES OVER

Chow for now....but make sure to check out that sunset tonight and the moon and Venus will put on another show. We have moonset at 11:47 p.m. Pictures and more fun stuff on the way. Thanks for your patience AND E-MAILING ME PICTURES and just checking in with me. It gives me tons of energy and you have kept me going non-stop since Wednesday. I feel great thanks to you!!

This big thaw you speak of intrigues me. I'm hoping you can elaborate more in your next post...

Morning bloggers, a small amount of icy stuff on hoods of our cars not on the windows though:)

The forcast for next weeks looks interesting, perhaps more snow than rain?? Looking better all the time:) Just not ready for that Artic blast!

This mornings sunrise was just as beautiful as the sunset.

Well off to do girl stuff with my daughter, hair cuts and lunch, and of course shopping..I wish I could keep her from the shoe stores LOL!

Have a great day all..will be checking in.

Anonymous said...

Bring on the snow. I want a blizzard!!!!! LOL

Anonymous said...

I know, I want snow!! That would be fun.

If you all like snow it is still looking like we could see around two inches! For Wednesday! We will just have to keep watching it closely and keep all posted!

testing, testing, my postings are not going showing!

Anonymous said...

pouring out, did not think it was warm enough to rain, dont know what the degree is

Anonymous said...

I have 41* outside currently. No rain in Lafayette so far. Or at least not on the southside.

Looking forward to snow next week. Would like to see more than two inches though. :)

Anonymous said...

Strange Nathan, it was pouring in Laf. where I am located, then it got really foggy!

Anonymous said...

temps are falling, are we going to get snow today?

Anonymous said...

No Snow today but I'M still looking for some snow on Tuesday into Wednesday!

Still looking for the 1 to 3 inch range and my models are looking for around two inches!

I keep watching it closely because things change so fast!

My current temperature is 37* degrees and looks to be holding steady at this time!

Justin in Lafayette

Only around 2 inches, thats nothing:(, keeping my fingers crossed for a lot more

Anonymous said...

What a gloomy day, temp is falling I had 42 at 8:00 am now is down to 36. It will continue to fall from what the radars show. Watching scifi channel, Stephan King movie with plenty of snow in it

Anonymous said...

the week end is something to watch!
Aw,Justin cant the models do better than that:-)

Anonymous said...

Like to look out and see the grass. The dogs love to run in their yard. Hope it stays that way. At least if we do get any snow hopefully it will be on the light side. Either way, some will be happy and others disappointed.

Katie said...

puddles are freezing now on my deck! Still pretty windy in Rem. my temp. reads 29.

Anonymous said...

Hi all, to the person who posted they like to look out and see the grass..I do too as long as it is green:), however right now all I see is a muddy yard:(

My dogs love to run but the ground is just too wet and they track mud all over the house. Would rather have the white stuff than mud:)

It is starting to get cold out,the temp where I am located is 30. I am anxiously a waiting for the snow to start falling. How much we all wonder:)

we need an update

Anonymous said...

I just watched the news on an Indy station, they said little or no snow for tues and wed! but they still called it a winter storm!

Anonymous said...

This blog is so addictive! Especially when waiting for the newest insight into a snow possibility.
Whenever you get to it, Mike...we'll be checking! :)

Anonymous said...

Hey Everybody I just got done looking at some more of the latest models! And things have changed a bit! The lafayette area and areas around Two out of three models are showing more rain then snow! It is looking like we could see rainfall between a Tenth and a Quarter inch and then snowfall less then an inch.

This is why we have to keep watching these systems closely!

I wan't Snow just as much as all you snow lovers but this is not what I'M looking for! I want more then less then one inch! But lets not make a final call on this system just yet we still have much time to see how it wants to play out! We do still have till later Tuesday into Wednesday!!

What odd weather Indiana has!

Teir It is cooling down here as well I have a current temperature of only 29 degrees.

I know Justin, just too early to tell, I heard that this storm is losing moisture, others say just watch close..

Have fun tracking:)!!!
I start back at work tomorrow, from a nice winter break, and will miss watching the radars. But I also have missed the kids, will be glad to see all of them, bet there will be a lot of sleepy heads, including myself:))

Grass is grass. Mud is mud. My yard has grass. Please remember everyone doesn't go bonkers over snow. If we get if fine, I just don't wish for it. I'm a senior citizen and dealing with it gets harder and harder as I age.

Anonymous said...

Great! Bring on Summer! I am ready to get out in the sun again and do yard work. If it is not going to be winter, move to summer. Indiana is annoying. The seasons are never right.

Anonymous said...

No not everyone goes bonkers about snow, most blogger are weather, geeks and snow lovers. I think that many who post on this blog love weather! Many have been posting for over a year or more. And try to lookout for each other and all.

I understand being a senior citizen makes it hard as far a shoveling, It is for me and I not there yet getting close though.

My mother has a horriable time with the snow, and I worry about her, but the heavy rains are bad for her too for her basement floods.

Take care and I hope you get your wish, and if we do get snow, I hope you have someone to help you clear the walks, or drive you around

forcast is changing every few hours now this is the forcast on weather underground Tues through Thurs

Likely Light Rain , Likely Light Snow , Chance of Light Freezing Rain

Anonymous said...

some are calling for freezing rain on tuesday

Anonymous said...

Hey everybody! I'M sitting on these maps as they come in! And I have the latest as of 1:03am and we do have a chance of seeing some freezing rain! Now I will give you some idea amounts so we can be ready if this happens but this system is changing so much as you can tell!!! I will have to give you another stronger time line and amounts tonight and Tomorrow!

For now here is what we could see from Tuesday into Wednesday!

Rain showers changing over to a mix with possible ice and then over to snow! Right now ice amounts are looking to be between a Tenth and a Quarter inch possible! And snow around one inch!

Right now this system is all over the place and by that I mean some of the models are not doing a great job at this time! All I can do is keep telling you what the maps and models tell me!

So I will check back with an update and keep you posted through the day!

On the good side we have some clearing skies for today and that should be a treat for all so go and enjoy! ;-)

What a wild weather watching day!

Justin in Lafayette

Anonymous said...

Thanks Justin! You and Mike are always on top of things! :) An inch of snow is enough to make most happy!

Anonymous said...

Just want to pop in and give a quick update! I have some good news! It looks like the ice if we do see any will be on the light side only around a Tenth or less and the more north you go the less ice you will see! This is really good for places like around Mary anne in Remington, who have already seen as much ice as they can stand!

Otherwise things still look on track at this time! Still I will pop back in later no this evening with the latest!

Till then today looks good with partly cloudy to sunny skies. And a light wind between 5 and 10 mph. With temperatures in the low to mid 30s!

I'll check back soon.

Justin in Lafayette

Yes Dustin, good news. The noon weather teams are calling for not much more than an inch of snow. Our luck continues to hold. Thanks for the updates.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Justin, hit the wrong key.

Anonymous said...

Only 4 inches of snow so far, thats not very lucky.

Anonymous said...

Today makes me want to get outside, but when I saw the temp, I was like hmmm, no thanks. I'll just stay near my sunny windows. Though I could bundle up and go for a walk. It's been awhile.

Sunshine in January. You gotta love it.
