Icy Pattern About to Be Crushed with Cold

The Riehle Plaza is somewhere down there. You can see our Renaissance Camera iced over last night and our weather window really tells the story. This is the first thing I look at when I get to work everyday. Yes, I look out the window. Our weather quickly changes in Indiana and our sophisticated models are many times left in the dust. I like moving this camera from east to west and check out the clouds with the latest conditions. All too often this year it has been full of ice. I know of at least 6 people that fell walking to their cars yesterday and I am very happy to report they are all okay. It is dangerous out there and enough is enough. You can see the snizzle as I like to call it added up in Remington above. This mixture of snow and freezing drizzle created another mess yesterday especially to sidewalks, driveways, and secondary roads.

Mary Anne Best was nice enough to send this in quickly during the newscast. We need to set her up with a live weather cam for our newscast so we can check in instantly as to what is happening. This will surely help travelers heading North. She said it was a slick as a greased goose and that was my weather quote of the day, hands down! The big thing we have to remember is to stay patient and I know it is tough with COUNT THEM four ice events in the last 3 weeks. Now I do love winter weather, but I have not enjoyed this winter so far, not one bit. You can blame the ice. The good news is that our chances of ice over the next couple of weeks will be much lower with an increased chance of snow. We are expecting a flip-flop in our weather pattern which will build a ridge out West. This will dislodge all that cold weather that has been sitting in Canada. Here is a brief glimpse of what is on the way.

Fort Yukon has had high temperatures without wind chills from -40 to -50 this week. So not only will we have to watch for snow but for sub-zero temperatures between now and January 21st. I do think we will see at least one snowstorm of 6 inches or more along with two major arctic outbreaks, and NO ICE! Well, I guess we should be careful what we ask for but we are due for some snow. We very well could have had a record-breaking December for snowfall but our snow was a wintry mix as we all know. The big weather blog question of the day is how much snow would we have had if all four of our sloppy storms that produced ice, rain, and snow were in fact all snow. I can tell you we would still be digging out. I will have your answer here later today along with where we compare to average. I will check back with you soon.

This is astounding! Now this can be quite depressing for those that love snow like Randy in Frankfort but our turn is coming. I will talk more about better chances of snow in the long-range here on the blog tomorrow.

Three snows of 6" inches or more. Then two and now one. Wait a few weeks and I'll bet the prediction is none. LOL

What will end up happening, is that we will get all the snow when we don't want it or in the mood for it. Hopefully, winter will end and let spring out in full force, unlike Spring 08, having cold weather. Honestly, we didn't really have a real hot summer either. Its nice and warm in Panama city Florida 60's and 70's now.

If we can get through this month and February, your almost out of the hole..lol. So far, I have not suffered the winter blues.

Thanks Mike for the heads up.

Hey mike or justin.. just wondering about these two storm systems coming in Saturday and monday.. ? I live just south of indy and have yet to see snowfall over an inch. i understand this has been a complex and strange winter so far, but come on.. can we get some snow please ! lol.. Was wondering what your currently thinking about the next two systems, are we going to finaly have to use some shovels ? how about an early estimate if you can... i would understand if you dont want to put numbers up this early as there are many ppl and bloggers here that dont understand the complexity of weather and will go into a frenzy if your wrong or off by a bit. Thanks for all you do. your work is always greatly appreciated !
Thanks Brandon (Indy)

I agree as well Katie! enough of the icy stuff. I am sore from my fall last night. Bruised tail bone was hard moving around today:-(

Still patchy slick spots in parking lots and side walks. Now with the temp drop all is re-freezing!

Wonder how Justin is doing?

Hey everybody I'M still around!

About the system for Saturday! I have a few models showing it starting out with a real light rain then to all snow! However snowfall at this time is still up in the air but by the maps it currently don't look like much!Monday low snowfall as well! Still like you said with the way things have been we will take it day by day and just watch it as it comes in!

I do however see more chances for snow later on through this month! SO I as well would like at least one good snow system this season!

Hope that helps!

Justin

Snowing and windy on the northend of Lafayette.

I am anxious to see what the forecasted low will be for next Wed. night. One South Bend station is predicting -8 degrees, while the other station is predicting a low of 5 degrees.

Any cold is too cold for me, -8 or 5* does not make much of a diffrence,, now its the winds that get to me! I do not like it being so cold with wind. I bet in the next few days it will be nasty cold! Frost bite wx!!!

Been watching the radars, and outlooks not pretty!

It is snowing lightly and windy in Remington, too. Just got out of another meeting and there is a pretty healthy snow covering the ice now--wonderful :-( I may have to reschedule the reshceduled appt that i have tomorrow again. Oh well, tis winter what can we expect.

Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of the horrible flooding of January 2007. Will we who lived through that ever forget what woke us up early that morning, , or forget the tragic stories we saw and heard over the weeks of recovery? There are 96 reservations so far for the dinner here in Remington tomorrow night, and 50 each for Monty and Delphi. While I hate the ice I am scared of flooding again. I hope I never see it that bad--ever again.

I have a good dusting on the ground here as well! IT is a little windy but not to bad at this time!

AS long as it stays that way I won't have to worry about power going out ;-)

It is cold out however with a current temperature of only 23 degrees!

Everybody keep warm in the morning!

LOL Teri, don't worry about it. I could have used a different phrase but it would not be appropriate here!

Hey, keep me apprised of how roads/streets are in the morning, okay? Sun is to come out in the afternoon so maybe some drying will take place.

The possible extreme cold temps next week is why I rather not have snow. It's pretty for a day, but any snow cover makes the temperature about 10 degrees colder. So if we get snow we could well see temperatures below zero next week. Snow means higher heating bills. Regardless, we can't control it so stay safe, keep warm and keep a smile on your face.
