Black Ice & Cold Road Temperatures Main Concern Tonight

Winter Weather Update With Meteorologist Mike Prangley

Tonight: Patchy freezing drizzle and fog with lows of 28. The main concerns will be patchy black ice, especially on secondary roads, bridges, and overpasses. Improving conditions after 4 a.m. as the wind picks up helping to dry the atmosphere out. A southwest wind will be at 5 to 12 mph by morning.

Wednesday: Turning blustery and cold with flurries. Temperatures hold steady in the upper 20s and lower 30s. A west wind will be at 15 to 25 mph and gusty.

I will be back with those all-important road temperatures. The good news is the wind will pick up late tonight helping to dry things out on the roadways and helping to clear the fog out that will continue to freeze on cold surfaces like bridges and overpasses. This will be slow process and things may not improve until after 4 a.m. Be very careful when traveling as our winter weather advisory continues until midnight. Conditions will continue to be ripe for black ice.

Thanks for the road update Mike!

Hey everybody even if the road you are driving on is not icy! Don't think the bridges wont be! Bridges can get icy before roads will! This is because they are up in the air and most are over water where the temperature is cooler! SO always when there is a chance for black ice keep watch!

Mike earlier this moreing my aunt was out and she said that a school bus almost hit her in the rear! For he / she could not stop! ((The roads!)) Some are not to bad at this time but others you need to be careful! Even now!

Hi all, just got home from work,

I had ice on my car windows, not to thick but bad enough. Be careful for there is black ice,

I was watching kids walking home from school, they were falling down all over the place, one place the walk is clear then the next thing ya know your are on the ground... Really Be careful! Is a bit foggy in places, and the temp where I am is 31* Still light freezing drizzle.

Also there is patchy black ice on the roads! At this time! Not only on the bridges and overpasses, but side roads as well as main ones in town.. Just take it slow!

I am SSSSOOOOOO glad I cancelled that appt today! Heard on WLFI at noon there were many accidents at Concord and Brady Lane which is where I turn south to get to 350.

Glad I listened to my gut feelings.

I bet doing the "splits" did hurt! my tail bone is sore so I am sitting on an ice pack out of all things! Ice caused this in the first place. I bet the ortho's are busy tonight!

I heard it was going to be 78 degrees tomorrow and a chance for a tropical storm. I am hoping that the palm trees dont start falling down.

we still have freezing fog/mist outside. The interstate looks like it is moving better. Looks like 1/32 of an inch of ice on smooth surfaces. william in remington

We just got out of a meeting and it is slicker than goose grease with a light snow falling. My temp is higher than it has been all day at 30*. And I look up at the trees it looks like the fog has frozen to limbs.

Wow, William, that is awful about the I and 24. Dang we have ladies going west on 24 and south on the road south out of town. Black ice is the most dangerous of all ices.
