Early Wake-Up Call With Flooding Rain & Damaging Wind Gusts Possible

It is good to check in with you. We had some incredible cumulonimbus clouds and rainbows at 6 a.m. Our weather team is here and ready. They have given way to some localized flooding in Tippecanoe and Montgomery County. They will be moving into Carroll, Clinton, and Howard Counties. The main threats will continue to be lightning and flooding. After 7 a.m. stronger storms from our north and west that have produced warnings in the Chicago area will move our way. The main threats will be flooding, damaging wind gusts, and lightning. Stay safe and I will get on more crawls for television.

So far the only reports with that line in CHI ILL, has been high wind reports but hey that's enough.

Anonymous said...

I am watching it right now. What time do you estimate for that second line Justin?

ML

Im looking for it to be in tipp, by around 8:45am we as well as benton, warren, fountain, montgomery, vermillion co, could see some high wind's with this system for it look's to be bowing some!

Clods are at 450FT to 500FT system is moveing ESE at 23 MPH.

These storms look to die down before they get to us.
It's later we really need to be ready when that cold front up just north west of I'LL, moves are way.
Still we will keep a close eye on anything that come's are way.
This is Indiana.

Morning all!
Sorry I missed the rainbow, I just laid in bed listening to the sound of a nice rain shower.

The storms up near Chicago have me concerned.

Good morning bloggers! I was jolted out of bed at 5:50 a.m. by the wx radio going off! What a squall line coming from up around Kankakee! It has died down now but is pouring here right now! I had
.27 before midnight and have another .46 right now with it still pouring! That amount is from the roof wx station. I am not wading out to the official NWS gauge yet :-))

Will check in here often. Stay safe everyone! Justin, in your forecasting don't forget us up here in Jasper County :-)

This wx statement is out of Chicago of which William and I am a part of (Jasper County) but the entire discussion will affect all of us later today as that front comes through:

THUNDERSTORMS...THE STRONGEST OF WHICH COULD PRODUCE FLOODING RAINFALL...WINDS GUSTS OF 60 MPH AND HAIL UP TO NICKLE SIZE.

AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

STORMS ARE ONGOING ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST ILLINOIS...AND WILL BE OVERSPREADING THE CHICAGO METRO AREA BY 600 AM CDT.

NEW STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS...MAINLY EAST OF INTERSTATE 55. SOME OF THESE NEW STORMS MAY BE SEVERE WITH THE PRIMARY THREAT BEING DAMAGING WINDS TO 70 MPH.

DISCUSSION:

A SQUALL LINE ASSOCIATED WITH A COLD FRONT HAS MOVED INTO NORTHWEST ILLINOIS AND MERGED WITH A GROWING CLUSTER OF STORMS OVER NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THE RESULT HAS BEEN TO ENHANCE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT OVER NORTHERN ILLINOIS. THE PRIMARY THREAT FROM THESE STORMS IS HEAVY RAINFALL AND INTENSE LIGHTNING. STRONGER STORMS MAY PRODUCE MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL. AS THE SQUALL LINE MERGES INTO THE STORMS DOWNSTREAM...DRIER MID LEVEL AIR MAY PRODUCE BOWING SEGMENTS IN THE LINE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS.

THIS ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH LATER THIS MORNING...THEN REFIRE EAST OF INTERSTATE 55 BY 300 PM CDT.

Ok will do mary anne.

We still have a few more rumbels of thunder to get through this system is moveing slow at only around 25 MPH but hey at least it not severe right?.

Justin in Lafayette.

Anonymous said...

By 10:45am newton, jasper, warren, tippecanoe, and benton, should all start to clear out at least for a little bit for a high pressure system is moveing into the area.
So take in this break while you can!

Justin in Lafayette.

Anonymous said...

When do you think the next line will hit? How long of a break do you think we will have

Anonymous said...

Well it's hard to give a good strong time line so here is just an idea and this can still change.

We may have a break till noon then another break till maybe 2:00pm or 3:00pm now don't hold me to this it most likely will change again.

Justin in Lafayette.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Justin, we know that things could change in a heartbeat.

Anonymous said...

From 8:30am to now I have .75 in the rain gauge.

Here is what the map's are saying right now.

We mite start to see the storms in the WLFI veiwing area by 3:00pm or 4:00pm.
Right now showing the worst of the storms between 4:00pm and 6:00pm tonight!!!

That's the latest.

Justin in Lafayette.

Mary Anne how is your creek looking?

Anonymous said...

The creek came up real fast in that inch of rain. It is about half full right now. The rain came down very quickly. I should have done an intense precip report to CoCoRaHS but didn't. Justin are you reporting daily? What is your station number if I might ask? There are several from Tip County.

Just looking at the latest radar in central and eastern IL. Looks like storms have started to "pop" near Springfield, IL. .. no watches are warnings has of yet. this activity seems to be strengthening and heading toward central indiana near and after 7pm.. few more hours of swimming here for now !! Brandon ( indianapolis ) ((currently in Wabash , Indiana ) ))

Anonymous said...

Clouds are currently at 500FT hail the storms are moveing around 25MPH.
We could start to see some by around 5:45pm or 6:00pm.
Will talk county's when it get closer.

Justin in Lafayette.

Anonymous said...

Looks like its heading NE however there are two lines the other moving SE appears like they are going to collide, I am waiting for a watch box or warning for all of our viewing area

Anonymous said...

Because of all the daytime heating we had the storm's are moveing into our warm air temp's and getting stronger. The clouds were at 500FT and now at 550FT so this is something we really need to keep a close eye on.

I'll be back in a few with the countie's.

Here is the latest wx statement regarding severe wx. A possible watch is being considered. Notice it mentions the Indy and Kokomo area. Justin do you have access to a Zulu clock compared to EDT? I couls sure use one. Could impact the TV-18 viewing area:

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 122037Z - 122200Z

TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED FOR AN INCREASING SEVERE THREAT AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A WW.

DEVELOPING STORM CLUSTER ACROSS PARTS OF EAST CENTRAL MISSOURI INTO CENTRAL ILLINOIS APPEARS TO BE SUPPORTED BY AN AREA OF STRONGER MID-LEVEL FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH A SHORT WAVE IMPULSE...WHICH IS BEGINNING TO MERGE INTO CYCLONIC FLOW ON THE SOUTHEASTERN PERIPHERY OF THE MANITOBA/WESTERN ONTARIO DEEP CLOSED LOW. WHILE CONVECTION MAY BEGIN TO BECOME DECOUPLED FROM THIS FORCING AS IT ADVECTS EAST NORTHEASTWARD LATE THIS AFTERNOON...A MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER WITH CAPE OF 2000-3000 J/KG PROBABLY WILL MAINTAIN ACTIVITY ALONG/NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 70 CORRIDOR THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON.
ALTHOUGH DEEP LAYER SHEAR IS GENERALLY WEAK...20+ KT WESTERLY DEEP LAYER MEAN ENVIRONMENTAL FLOW COUPLED WITH MODESTLY STEEP LAPSE RATES COULD CONTRIBUTE TO A FORWARD PROPAGATING SURFACE COLD POOL CAPABLE OF PRODUCING WIND GUSTS BRIEFLY APPROACHING SEVERE LIMITS.
THIS COULD IMPACT THE INDIANAPOLIS METROPOLITAN AREA NORTHWARD THROUGH KOKOMO/PERU BY 13/00-01Z.

Justin...see the time thingy in the wx statement I posted? it says "Valid-122037Z - 122200Z". That "Z" is "Zulu" time and can be convereted to any time zone anywhere. I can't find a good one I can understand. I need to ask Mike about that. Thought maybe you would have access to one.
