I am still in deep spring cleaning mode but I did want to give you preliminary numbers on how much snow and rain you can expect over the next 7 days. Yesterday my thermometer did hit 60 degrees here on the southside of Lafayette and we are not done with the 60s yet! We can keep out the short-sleeve shirts. Speaking of T-Shirts....I love the picture Brow sent me of the T-Shirt idea for the Lafayette area weather bloggers. I think it is a great start! This T-Shirt and the picnic now are officially in the planning stages. More details to follow soon here on the blog. Brow I will make sure to e-mail you to get this thing rolling kind of like nature will be over the next couple weeks!
Here we go.....latest long-range maps are as busy as I have seen all year. A very active storm track will develop over the lower 48 as high-latitude blocking sets up in Canada and over Greeland. Nature tries to reach equilibrium in this pattern by lowering pressures over the mid-latitudes which favors the development of multiple storm hits across the country. The first hit will be in the form of a severe weather outbreak by the middle of the week and then we all need to get our snow shovels out by next weekend.
Rainfall on Monday night should be less than .10"
Rain on Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening will be in the .50" to 1" range
This is great news for area rivers. We do have to watch for locally heavier amounts in thunderstorms but right now if we can keep the total rainfall this week under 2". I think can dodge the worst of the flooding on area rivers.
Snowfall of 3 to 6 inches expected from next Friday through Sunday. Amounts may be heavier to the south of Lafayette so the entire state of Indiana will have to monitor this carefully.
We may be put in a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Tuesday night through Wednesday. The latest severe weather indeces for Lafayette have gone way up along with our forecast highs on Tuesday and Wednesday. I think the main low pressure will track much farther to the north putting all of our area in the warm sector. While this would keep the heaviest rain north and west of Lafayette it will also increase our chances of damaging wind, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. I will have more on this here on the blog. Now back to cleaning before our weather team goes back into storm mode. I look forward to posting all of the great pictures from the weekend's big meltdown here on the blog as soon as I can dig out from all the debris around the house and garage from cleaning. Your pictures are simply awesome!

With all this spring cleaning going on, I thought I was a clean person but I tend to be a pack rat. I think it is an oldest child thing. Then you add in 3 girls and a wife and cleaning becomes very interesting. Anybody need any hair-bands. I think I have found at least 230 of them. It looks like we were hit with straight-line winds at the Prangley house. I am surprised no survey teams have showed up at my house yet! This house should have been outlined in a high risk area by the SPC. Okay I will fight my way through this and stay calm. After all, we all have a big week ahead weatherwise and otherwise. Thanks for your support.

After practicing on her tricycle in the garage all winter, my daughter took her skills to the sidewalk yesterday and pedaled like crazy!
I was nice to get out and walk around the block yesterday...well except for the high powered winds push her backwards on her bike. :)
I would love to do some pre-spring cleaning, but can't seem to pry myself away from work today. :(
I too need to spring clean....but aren't we still in Winter....LOL...Don't want spring to get here and not be ready. How cool is that on your daughters tricycle skills. Go...Brow's daughter. My little guy crashed on his and had mud clear up in his ears. Nothing like a cold mud bath. LOL
Jamie
we got out yesterday and went to toto, it was so nice to get out and enjoy the ride with the sun, makes me want to start my spring projects,,,Becky from monticello
Mike, LOL about the hair bands, I find them in the cushions of the sofa and chairs, all over my daughters room in my car,in pockets and washer and dryer they are everwhere!
I just took her shopping and she bought more! The other thing we have more than we need are hoodies!
Oh I hope the storms will stay away!
Teri
Jamie, no i havent heard that about Emerson, but it doesnt suprise me.. Like i said my husband & son work for cives, and they are cut back and always sending them home. Hi ma, and Justin & Richard.. paper route was nice this morning no snow or slush, yesterday was bad due to the melting and very slippery when walking. I to would love a picnic and shirt,,, Becky from monticello
Thank you Mike for keeping us updated on your days off! You are awesome!
Mike I think everybody is already in storm mode! We are ready for anything!
Justin.
Not anything Justin, give me a good bottle of red wind during severe storms and then maybe I will not pace around looking out the windows. Glad I found this blog-)
Hi Becky glad to see you back to the blog. :)This new posting doesnt sound real great so be careful when delivering them newspapers.
Richard
Jamie,
Very cool sight to see!!! Never leave without your camera. I have missed golden oppertunities, so I take it everywhere I go.
Richard
Teri,
Hope you can find you a decent camera, wouldnt know what to do without mine. Still debating the upgrade and will keep you in mind on the one I use now.
Richard
Okay all you dog and snow lovers here is a link for you. Check it out!! I thought it was cool and we have no pets other than my man eating Oscar.

I hope this storm systems takes a trip north and this warm front stays here. Mike is already SPRING CLEANING, so hopefully he is optimistic about an early spring.
Catcth you all later tonight. Things to do and warm weather to enjoy before the temps go back down into the 30`s.
Richard
Richard
darling video Richard! Thanks
lol Hairbands! I only have 1 daughter and yet those things are all over the house (might have something to do with her hair being waist-length....)! Of course, with a son in the house as well, when I was cleaning out 1 closet today I found 3 pairs of hiking boots that he'd outgrown a LONG time ago. And we won't talk about how many mittens, gloves, hats, etc have taken over that closet! lol Comes with the territory of kids. :) Enjoying the great weather!
Hey Mike...When do you think we will ever be in the bullseye for snow....It seems like it is always either north or south of us this year...Or maybe it is just me...What do you guys think?
Do you think there will be dense fog tonight due to the limited visibility right now?
Richard, I was riding with someone else and it didn't even cross my mind to take it. Of course when you are packing a 4 yr old and a 12 yr old, you tend to forget the things you would like to take. LOL. Becky, I had completely forgot about Cives over there. How many do they employ. Your trip to TOTO was good? I remember when you drove into that little town that there was a couple of places to go and now they are closed up :( Agree totally with the hair band deal. I have them everywhere as well.
Such a pretty day, Mike you and the warmer temps got me in the mood to so some spring cleaning as well!
My, I cant wait to have a garage sale.
I also have many items to donate. Gee talk about a pack rat!
I keep just about everything, tons of books!
Makes one feel good to get it all out of the way. And all the hair bands are now in a large container, will see how long they stay there LOL!
Teri
hi all, for the one asked how many does cives employ ?? this is just a guess, cause i have never really heard my husband talk about that, but when i go into the parking lot on his lunch break, id say maybe with both shifts, 200 give or take a few.. Hi richard,, whats going on with being unemployed?? have you checked on unemployment yet? did they give you a time frame of how long youd be off?, just hang in there.. route went fine this morning but yesterday wasnt so good the ice and snow you know melting, then it woulod semi freeze and be real slick walking... but i would much rather put up with snow or ice then thunderstorms when iam delivering.. not only do i get soaked but then the inside of my car when getting out or rolling down the window. take care all... Becky
I was out and about and it seemed awful hazy. Even through town there is a haze. I am wondering if there is a good chance of dense fog this evening?
Any thoughts on this Bloggers?
Richard.
Becky I am guessing 75-100 got axed this past Friday. I went online after midnight to file unemployment and with vacation time and being off for short term disability from surgery, I couldnt answer the questions to jepordize any hinderences on recieving the unemployment in a timely matter. I will be meeting tomorrow when they do the initial filing for people that doesnt have computers. I will give you more info tomorrow Becky.
They did tell us with a weeks waiting period it would be 1-2 weeks before we recieve our unemployment cards. Bloggers if you get layed off and have retirement please go to your bank and have it rolled over to an IRA. One important thing to remember dont handle the check let the bank and the employer do the transaction. No penalizations that way.
Again I will give you more answers tomorrow.
God Bless
Richard
Very clear in Laf. nice blue sky.
The temp is 43.2* humidity 67%
Looks like there could be a beautiful sunset..Just came inside the Sun is blinding..I have spots in front of my eyes LOL!
Teri
Teri how funny you say that mike cleaning got you in the mood to start! well We just had a day full of cleaning! Everything is nice a fresh smelling and really feels like Spring time!
Really was not to much to do just steam clean the rugs dust and scrub everything in the kitchen bathroom and living room.
Now all is done and looks great!
Justin.
Teri look at how much things change from where you are and where I'M at.
Tamp is at 42.3* hum at 63% Clear skies.
Justin.
Justin, there is no way I am even going to attempt to steam clean the carpet till my yard is full of grass again LOL!
A friend is going to bring over some straw. will look ugly, but will save my floors..
Teri
Good call with your dogs and all!
We only have one little dog that likes to bring in mud! However rwe stand by the door and can catch her in time! (Most of the time) lol..... She has done good so far!
Justin.
My station now shows a temp of 42.6*
humidity 66%.
Justin,I recall many times it has been pouring at my house and you reporting no rain, strange how only around 3 miles can make such a diff.
Teri
Yep it does! That is why it is good to have this blog so we all know and can report whats going on in our area!
I know the blogs will be fired up and ready to go by this time Tuesday and Wednesday! What a mess coming!
Justin.
What are you seeing Justin as far as a mess coming?
We are in a valley here and the Wabash runs almost through town. Maybe thats why it is hazy here and yes a few miles can make a differance.
Temp 40
Humidity 73%
Bar Pressure 30.29 and falling.
Richard
The mess is there is a good chance for severe weather on Tuesday in to Mainly Wednesday! as we will be unstable. the SPC may put us in a severe weather risk! And then if that is not enough we will see Winter return by this weekend! A wild weather pattern setting up and a mess it is! I will be here and ready to track any storms to come our way!
Justin.
I hope the severe storms miss us, Iam starting to like snow more and more:)
Richard I bet that is why it is a bit hazy in your area
Teri
Hey Richard good advice about an IRA! And good luck tomorrow!
Teri
I am seeing a few small poop up showers in IL and MI
oops, POP up showers, must be all the dog talk that made me do it:-)
(((((blush))))))
Justin and Teri,
Did you check out the snowdog link that I posted. If not its worth watching.
Richard
Richard I did check it out, too cute! I had to foward that on a family member.. Thanks so much for a chuckle.. that dog was having a blast. and oh what snow!
Teri
It simply amazed me how that dog just tunneled through the snow. I don`t think he was going to stop. The end of the video I layghed because I though the was done and he dove right back in. lol
Richard
sorry about the typos. Mike need spell check on here....lol
Richard I just looked at it and to cute! He really love snow! That is my kind of snowfall! lol.....
Justin.
thanks for passing that on richard, both my kids were laughing.
Jamie
Hi Becky- I'm a fellow carrier, and understand the frustration. I'm happy to have a break from the ice, although it may be a short one.
To all- now's a good time to make sure your weather radios and/or scanners are still in good working order (batteries, FIPS codes, and so on).
Jason
Good call Jason!
Everybody should check everytihng out and make sure it is working good!
Justin.
I love the t-shirt! I think there should be one for guys ond one for the gals who are part of the Prang-gang;-) the person is bald LOL
An additional note-
Here is a link that will help to explain the codes:

Richard is right about spell check on here, I laughed at the poop bloop LOL LOL
I sure enjoy reading all your posts. I am on this blog as much as I am on my facebook! Sounds like we are in for a wild ride this week.
Cindy
My daughter....who was "thought of and conceived" during the blizzard of 07....took her first walk this weekend.....SO CUTE!
Chris in Tipton
I am telling you....we are going to have strong storms and heavy snow within the next 7 days....what a roller coaster we will ride!!!!
Chris in Tipton
Yes Chris here is what I currently have.
stronger storms move in in the late night of Tuesday into early morning Wednesday. This is the system I'M watching. The rain and storms will be going through much of the day Wednesday as we will be seeing High winds Heavy rainfall and strong storms. Rainfall is looking to be around an inch maybe an inch and a quarter.
I do look for the SPC to put us in a risk for severe weather here before long. And we also could very well see some Thunderstorm watches and warnings out by the time things get closer. The only thing we can do for now is keep watching things closely and keep everybody posted.
And then as we head into this weekend we will be right back to winter as another snow storm will try to work it way to us! With currently the chance to bring around Five inches.
But for now lets just get through the Thunderstorms!
Justin.
Well off to bed for me! Night all.
Justin.
Attica
Temp 29.1
Humidity 86%
Bar Pressure 30.26 and falling
Visibility 3.0 miles
I looked at one map and and the weather will be here in the next couple of days. The map is showing a heavy band towards the north, more than likely snow. I didnt take to much time to do some digging but you can see it on weatherunderground.com
Richard
Richard
More than likely we will have a frosty morning.
Richard
Good morning Prang Gang! Anyone watching that 'blob" taking aim on the Midwest coming from OK this morning? Wow...was like that all day yesterday , too coming across TX. Enjoy the quiet today.
Chris in Tipton...how cute about your daughter. Curious...you M or F??
MA in REM
Hey all just read this hope it is wrong!
Heavy rain occurring on Feb 9 | Feb 10 | Feb 11. Total amount 2.58 Inches.
have a great day
T
I am very new to this blog, however I have read what Mike has to say for over a year or more. Didn't realize this was here...DUH...LOL!!! I have been laughing like crazy about all the spring cleaning and hair ties!!! The only reason I would have them laying all over the house is because my daughters will leave them lay and the cats get them and play with them. I hate to hear about the storms and rain coming our way, I think for now I would rather have the snow. Everyone have a great Monday!!!
Lanna in Frankfort
Well, This is will be a giant smack in the face, with a big laugh, saying, "haha". lol. Its a bit early for warmer like this, but this is horrible to get us all excited, and then turn on us.
Though, the weather has given me a great mood boost, but makes it more annoying to have the warmth, then go right back to cold. Makes it worse than if it stayed cold, then warm up and stay there.
I really enjoyed the weekend, it felt so nice, almost weird, because we had snow on the ground, then hours later it was gone, warm and sunny.
This is Indiana for ya..lol oh well. We don't have too much longer until we see this kind of weather. Trees are getting buds already, more birds are out, the sun is warmer. Bring it on.
No more snow!
From a wx newsletter I get:
From 4 -10 days out:
The low will take shape over Oklahoma, and embark on a path toward Ontario. Some of the schemes have hinted at the low minoring out, with redevelopment over middle or upper Appalachia. In this situation, some frozen precipitation may occur over parts of the lower Great Lakes and interior New England, QB and NB. But the main emphasis on this feature has to be its potential to spread strong to severe thunderstorms from the lower Great Plains into parts of the Old South. UVV forecasts from the NAM and GFS are supportive of a fairly impressive burst of convection from OK and TX into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. I was reluctant to bring the most intense threat zone into Illinois and Indiana, mainly for reasons of seasonal climatology. That said, I would not be surprised if watches were ultimately posted near St. Louis MO, Chicago IL, and Indianapolis IN in the February 10 - 11 time frame. A heavy snow band may form in the deformation zone along and to the left of the trajectory of this feature, which will be interacting with an older low in the Upper Midwest. That system could contribute enough cold air for snow or ice risks from the Kansas City MO vicinity into WI and Upper MI.
"Round Two" will be another vigorous storm that is now visible northeast of the Hawaiian Islands. In this case, the rising 500MB heights over Baffin Islands should prevent recurvature of the low into Ontario and Quebec. Instead, I foresee a path roughly parallel to 35 N Latitude, with the low dropping a great deal of thunderstorms and heavy snowfall in the West before doing the same from the Great Plains into the Eastern Seaboard. The snowfall potential, however, will be more lateral, with the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic most likely to see moderate or heavy snow. Ice threats cannot be ruled out in parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Virginias, with orography, cold air damming and overrunning all pointing to a freezing rain and sleet scenario in some areas still recovering from the debacle of a week and a half previous. Get set for one wild, crazy ride!

For those who don't like the flip-flop of the warm to cold wx, just think---the warm give us HOPE that Spring will be here soon! The hours of sunlight are stretching out and that is exciting! I have found the days go so fast that before you know it one season is over and another is quickly approaching.
I dread the storms. I just finished reading two books from survivors of the Greensburg, KS EF-5 tornado, I should read those during a snowstorm rather than when storm season is so close!
Well, we take we we get and make the most of it, don't we??
MA in REM--have a super day!
i dont want hope of spring we need more winter. let it snow and cover up this ugly brown ground
I am a guy.....
Chris in Tipton
Took new puppy to Vet.....he did well. A whopping 14.5 pounds. Dr. said he was tall for his age....thinking he was talking about the dog....but was talking about my son. LOL Said I should take him off of full feed....again thinking of the dog....referring to the kid. Too funny. Sun is out....yeah us! Had sprinkles this morning. Heard thru grapevine that 6 kids were unresponsive at my daughters school but breathing. Again thru the grapevine. So, don't know anything. They haven't called me...worry...sigh about daughter, but know school is almost out and she will call me from her cell. Then I take a sigh of relief.
Jamie
sigh of relief :) She texted and said I'm fine why? Asked her if she heard or seen anything at school and she is like same stuff different day. So, hoping it was just a bad rumor. Will see what else we hear. It is so pretty outside. Just took puppy and son for walk. My hyacinths are trying to peek out and so are the new shoots on my iris. Oh please stay nice or I am going to have to cover them.
Jamie
