Light Snow on Sunday, Heavy Snow Monday Night & Tuesday

Here is the Prangley weather deck and notice by 10:30 a.m. we already had just under one inch of snow or .90" to be exact! Another inch of snow is possible by time it tapers off to flurries by 2 p.m. It is beautiful but be careful!

Good morning! What a wake-up call from nature. Today's band of morning and early afternoon snow is a sign of things to come this week. None of the models had this snow flaring up over us this morning just like none of the models have been calling for much, if any snow moving our way this coming up week, but we have not and are NOT believing any of them that is for sure. Bowling last night was a blast and yes I stuck by my forecast. The State Farm folks I hung out with were a lot of fun and it is nice knowing I have plenty of good or should I say great neighbors. I had a few strikes and nature will be striking us with plenty of snow this week. The pattern is a snowy, stormy set-up for Lafayette and this Sunday morning the models are finally coming around with precipitation totals skyrocketing not only on our Sunday, but for the bigger snow Monday night into Tuesday.

First things first...today be careful of dangeruos road conditions with a quick inch of snow likely and with the "fluff" factor or this being a Colorado-type snow with all the cold, dry air in place some areas could push two inches. The snow will taper off this afternoon but roads remain slick as temperatures stay well below freezing in the teens not allowing the road salt to do much of anything.

The second bigger storm that has already prompted winter storm watches to our south will bear the most watching. I have Lafayette in the 3 to 6 inch snow band at this time. We may have to add to these totals but this is a first good estimate that may hold true. Icing issuses could be very likely south of Interstate 74 as the northward trend continues on the models meaning more warm air will likely mix in. So when all is said and done it will be in fact be the Lafayette area that has the highest snow totals. Be careful today and I will keep you updated. More snow is likely on Thursday but it looks lighter. When all is said and done, 6 to 8 inches of snow is likely for Lafayette this week. Now it is time to go to church and pray for everybody's safety this week. I love when we can wax up the sleds but understand it sometimes comes with a price for those that do not slow down or have patience on the area roadways. I pray that everybody stays safe this week so our kids and even us adults can take in nature's beauty to the fullest.

I will check in with you later today and tonight to keep you ahead of the storm and look for a special funny blog posting in the near future that will likely bring some smiles on your faces. It is always good to laugh and most importantly laugh at yourself from time to time. My weather hop approach to bowling apparently turned some heads last night. Have a great day and be safe!

Awesome!

Yeah I was just looking out the window and seen actual...should I use the word "heavy snow" coming down right now in Monticello...From watching a few forecasts this morning on TV, I thought it was just supposed to flurry...doesn't look like it to me.

I really want to get my daughter outside and sledding as I have been promising her that for awhile now. :)

Anonymous said...

Who are in the winter weather watch? I know its southern In but I dont see any issued.

Anonymous said...

So this snow is going to be going on all week and the 3-6" or poss 6-8" will happen over several day??

The roads will be plowed, for the next round, then the next???

Bet no school snow days for many areas, the HWY dept will be able to keep roads clear.

Bummer I was hoping it would fall at once!

RockinRoger said...

Mike....Love the increase in the amounts of snow predicted, However, if it is within your "powers" I would love it if you could add about an additional 10 inches of blowing and drifting snow on top of this too. My wife and I have not been "snowed in" for quite some time now, and it could help out this family in having more grandchildren in the near future too!!!

Anonymous said...

Great job Mike, keep the good news coming. If we get 3-6 inches Monday night into Tuesday on top of the 1-2 we get today, I wouldn't worry about a snow day, it will happen. If there is 3-4 inches of snow and any wind at all, there will be problems on the roads. The only problem is that most school districts have already used up their snow days so they might be more willing to try a half day instead of cancelling for the whole day. Either way, I'm off work until Wednesday, I'll enjoy it for everyone!! Be safe everyone!!

Anonymous said...

The snow is beautiful!!

I was looking at the 7 day forcast though and I'm hoping somebody merely hit a wrong button or something because it has us getting a "sand storm" on Thursday...Please tell me that was just a mistake haha

Anonymous said...

haha sandstorm... lol

thats a good prediction, might want to run the models one more time tho... ;)

Anonymous said...

sun is trying to peak though, still nice snow coming down in Tippecanoe County!

Careful the roads are slick!

Anonymous said...

Ah come on, lets stop the jibber jabber about a sandstorm, this has been going on since yesterday!

Lets get to the real facts that there could be a SNOW STORM!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the update Mike. Those of us in Benton County are already bracing for some wind after the storm. It continues to amaze me when I leave home for work in the am its 5 degrees colder on the themomometer out here than it is in town. We appreciate your efforts and know we will get the deeper end of the stick out here. Mabey we need to open up a satellite office out here in the flat lands of Benton for you!!! Have a great Sunday!!

Anonymous said...

We will most certainly be busy at the grocery store tomorrow afternoon if not by evening! Watch out for the "rush".:)

Anonymous said...

Thats right mike nothing did point to this much snow for Lafayette today! I did see a map and or model showing around an inch but thats about it! I have a inch right on the nose at this time with a real light snow flurry. If it is to stay that was then we where close. However I think maybe another half inch is possible!

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Hey Justin you awake LOL!!

What are seeing for Monday and Tuesday?

I trust Mikes forcast but so many "forcasters" disagree!

some are saying nothing for monday night and only an inch for Tuesday.

Anonymous said...

Justin: Thanks for your updates and your time.

Quick Question: The weather channel is showing this system staying more to the south. How far north will the heavy snowfall be? In another words, will Fulton County be affected, or will it be one of those storms that we hear "the farther south you travel, the worse it will be"?

Thanks,
F/C
_____________________________

F/C To your question if this system does go as planed moving north that is. Then I do see you getting a good amount as well as much of the WLFI Viewing area. I don't think you will miss out on much. Still the main amounts as of now will be around the Tippecanoe county area I wilol not count you out!

Hope this helps.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

I see it starting late Monday night into Tuesday and starting to tapper off later on Wednesday.

Still I like my 3" to 6" I had last night with a good chance for mikes 6" to 8".

Again the models did not have what we got today forecasted to well.Other then a possible inch. This is why I like a good snow for Tuesday as the moisture keeps moving north I like our chances.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Mike and I have been pretty close together with our forecast this time around.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't the 7-day forcast screen under weather match with the forcast screen under weather:forcast?

I need to know the overnight lows.

Desiel's are picky about starting about 4:00 am.

Anonymous said...

Mike my one inch of snow melted is one tenth inch of watch.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

I read on another blog that the snow we are getting to day, in Tipp Co,.. shows that this system is pushing the pressure to the south..and the forcast is for only an inch of snow on Tuesday! That it will not stay on a northen track!

Whats up what that???

Anonymous said...

Justin: Thanks for the information. Please keep all the snow "down there". There is still plenty of snow in Fulton County, and most of us are tired of driving on slick and drifted roads. The county roads have finally cleared of ice and snow. Let it stay that way.

I have enjoyed reading about the snow that many of you are receiving at this time. We have received no snow, and in fact, the sun is trying to shine. YIPEE!!!

F/C

Anonymous said...

We will see what we can do F/C lol..... Have a good one.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

I guess that F/C's comment about no snow in her/his area, shows that there is not enough low pressure to make enough moisture for the Central and Northen part of the state .. from what I have read,,yet I dont believe:) Hang in there PRANG GANG!!!!I am with all of you! Mike is the best!!!!

Thanks Justin and F/C hope your luck lasts:)hope where I am we do get snow..

Snow eater Tipp.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait for tuesday or wednesday when everyone is complaining that we only got 1 inch of snow.. never fails.

Anonymous said...

Thanks everybody!!! Let's all hope we get what we want. I have just seen a couple flakes of snow, but local radar shows that today's system is south of me. I am just on the northern fringe of it.

F/C

Anonymous said...

That sounds right F/C for we do have enough moisture to work with with this smaller system.

Real quick Bloggers I just got done checking out a few more things wuth the system to come. I still like late late Monday night to start the flurries then it should really take off as we get into Tuesday into Wednesday. I still like the way things are setting up at this time. Still we have a few days to go! We all will be watching it closely.

For now Snow lovers keep hope!

I will check back in a little later for now have a good winter wonderlond day.
Mike thank you for all your update over the weekend as we all know it is your day off! ;) Thanks.....

Justin.

Anonymous said...

There will always be some one complaining about the forcasted snow amounts... I personaly would rather be ready than not.. I will not be disappointed if we get only one inch, yet if we get much more I am ready!

Once again Mike is human, and is not nature he does his best to keep us informed of the worst..or the best:)

He is not trying to get us excited, yet to warn us

Thank you Mike!

Night after night Americans watch the local news as the weatherman predicts what kind of a day tomorrow will be. These meteorologists, using the most up-to-date equipment available, boldly give you the five-day forecast.

But it's well known that, even with all of their research and expensive equipment, it really is just a "best guess." There are just too many variables. If the wind picks up here it could blow in a storm, if the temperature drops here it could start to snow. The earth is a vast and wondrous place. Weather does what it wants.

The truth is computer models are able to include only some of the components that make up the climate system. To include the next component would take a computer a thousand times faster than we now have. To go beyond the that component requires an increase in computer power that is so large only mathematicians can comprehend the numbers.

Today is a good example. The models didn't show this snow. Yet we are to believe the next model forecast. Yes it might happen, but then again as shown today the weather does what it wants.

Anonymous said...

Isn't is amazing that when we haven't had much snow this winter 6-8 inches seems like blizzard to us. lol

Anonymous said...

Is a pretty day.. that is if you like snow..The snow is starting to fall again in Laf. Big flakes!

All need to hang tight, wait and see, what nature has in store for us...

Be safe all..

looks to me like this system is going to fizzle out and miss the north central part of the state:)...

Anonymous said...

Mike...with the new inch snow cover in Laf., are you sure the system won't "go around" this cold air (from the new snowpack) like you've said storms do?

Thanks.

Hi Mike and justin, this is Becky from monticello. Is white county in this coverage of snow ?? i sure hope so i want it atleast up to my yahoo,,,, Then starting next week spring can work its way here, thats all i want is 1 major blizzard....

Anonymous said...

Hey Becky I think we will keep you in it as well ;) Most of the WLFI viewing area should see a good amount.

Although I don't see this time being a blizzard! Still should make all us snow lovers happy!

Becky do you know how much snowfall you seen today? Thanks.

... SNOW TO RETURN TO CENTRAL INDIANA...

A STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING ACCUMULATING SNOW TO CENTRAL INDIANA MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. PRESENT INDICATIONS ARE FOR 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW TO FALL ACROSS MOST OF CENTRAL INDIANA... WITH UP TO 6 INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS AREAS MAINLY SOUTH OF A SULLIVAN TO BLOOMINGTON TO GREENSBURG LINE.

THERE REMAINS A LOT OF UNCERTAINTY WITH THE EXACT TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM AND THE AMOUNT OF SNOW EXPECTED WITH IT. STAY TUNED FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FOR THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION.

Anonymous said...

The above post was a special weather statement for Tippecanoe County.

Anonymous said...

It was 31 years ago today that it started snowing and turned into a blizzard. It snowed for two days and we ended up with 17 inches of snow. There were 10 foot drifts. Everything closed. People in town couldn't get out for four days. The police department had to borrow four wheel drive vehicles. Hospital staffs were snowed in and couldn't get replaced. Now that was a snow storm. Does anyone remember?

Anonymous said...

I remember the blizzard 31 years ago today, i was in high heaven back in thos days, loved snow then love it still,, Monticello got just a dusting of snow today in some places we can still see the grass..Becky

Anonymous said...

It is so funny to me to read these posts and see how excited everyone is about the snow coming in! I love it! I used to live in upstate New York, between Malone and Massens, and when they said we were getting snow.... WE GOT IT! And a lot of it.
Let's hope we get some, the kids want to play in it!! Thanks!!

Anonymous said...

well by the sound of it, the heavy snow will be south of our vewing area...Tipp co will get about an inch bummer!

Anonymous said...

Justin what do you think now with the weather statement posted?? I looked on the NWS and it was a special statement...looks all to be south:(((

Anonymous said...

I remember the 78 and 79 blizzards. Of course, I was in high school and did not mind the snow. We were snow bound for days until the front-end loaders came and dug out the rural county roads.

F/C

Anonymous said...

Looks like Mike has been the only one calling for heavier snow locally. He'll either be the only hero or the only zero. Now if he changes his mind now it's to late. The bids are in. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Wow metro Indy barely received any snow. They only got like a dusting.

Anonymous said...

I think I will stick to my guns! I will still call for what I have been calling for! 3" to 6" for now!

I have my gut saying this system will keep moving north!

Justin.

Anonymous said...

3" to 6" and We can always add on later!

Justin.

Anonymous said...

I remember the blizzard or 78 as well, have many photos!

I loved the snow. I was living with my parents at the time. I was trying to break up with my boyfriend of 3 years, he came to my parents home and tried to persuade me to marry him. He was snowed in with us for over 2 days!!!! My parents wouldnt let him leave due to the bad weather.

I could not wait for the roads to clear so he could go to his home..and NO I did not marry him LOL!

Anonymous said...

Love the boyfriend story.

Anonymous said...

The NWS has bumped the Winter Storm Watch further north....good sign....!!!!! I agree....4-6 inches looks good...can always add more later as things become more clear!

Chris in Tipton

Anonymous said...

Looking @ weather.com & weather.gov it looks like the jet stream is go way south of us. I'm not sure how it will be pushed north enough for us to be affected. We might get at most 1-3".

Anonymous said...

how much further up north Chris??

Anonymous said...

Like I posted the past 2 days. I believe we will see up to 1 inch and hope it melts fast. :-)

Anonymous said...

It is south of Terra Haute east to Greensburg. Ice storm warning in affect for NW corner of Arkansas

Anonymous said...

Indy just reported they could see up to 5 inches of snow Mon night into Tue..but they did say this needs to be watched close, and that it looks like its going to stay on the south track..south of indy

Anonymous said...

Still looks to be going South of our area. Not seeing 6-8 inches. More like 1-3.

Anonymous said...

Kids, looks like no school delay for Tipp County...get ready for the quiz on Tuesday!
rise over run for the slope

Anonymous said...

This is weather fun. A developing possible storm and watching and guessing where it will go and who will be the snow winner.

Anonymous said...

Oh well, the excitement here kept me occupied, its too bad. I was looking forward to a good snow, then it can move on to spring. It can go ahead do the transition to spring now. :)

A real bummer.

Anonymous said...

How are we even getting anything. Our area does not appear to be anywhere near the storm. There is a winter storm watch, but way south.

This is a southern storm, its all south, so it doesn't look like we are even getting anything. No storm, no snow. Its a little frustrating. I was excited too.

Anonymous said...

Hi all,

Here we go again! I do hope for more than 1-3 inches of snow, we will have to sit tight, and be ready for snow or no snow.

I have not seen any focasts for Monday night into Tuesday that have predicted snowfall amounts to be above 6 inches..Yet as most of us know this still needs to be watched..

Teri

Anonymous said...

Oh and that is just by watching TV:)

Keeping my fingers crossed for more, now to check the computer.

Teri

Anonymous said...

Again, another station confirmed. We are only getting about 1 or so inches...lol wow. All this fuss over nothing. :) Oh well. This storm missed us.

Anonymous said...

I cannot believe how excited we all are over this, only to get nothing. Indiana for ya. lol. We were so hopeful too.

Perhaps February will give us something.

Anonymous said...

A southern storm. We are not getting anything. A little snow like today, if that.

Anonymous said...

Please everybody don't call this storm done just yet it is still a ways off. We need not to let are guard down!

Remember it has happend time and time again this Winter these systems like to go 100 to 150 miles more north and west then the models and maps show! I have been watching this system for some time now and it has already started to move more north then this time last week or two days ago for that matter.

We need to watch it closely and be ready for anything!

I know I will not call this over at all it is way to soon.....

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Just watched the two South Bend stations. Both agree that the storm will be south of them, but they did not say how far south. One station did say the storm track is ever changing, and it needs to be watched carefully. Both stations forecasted a possible 1-3 inches for South Bend. Then, of course, they had to launch into a lengthy discusion about possible lake effect snow.

Notice how it says AT THE MOMENT 2- 4 inches are expected. At the moment means that could change. I'm still rooting for Mike's forecast. I think he will be right on! And the 2-4 is not much of a difference from his. So, we will just wait and see!!

Anonymous said...

Actually, I believe that 2-4 inches is quite a bit different than 6-8 inches of snow...

Anonymous said...

I don't this is appropriate discussion here. I am sure you can understand.

Thank You!

Mike hasn't updated for awhile...I wonder if he is slowly realizing he is wrong or maybe it is something else...all other weather sources seem quite sure on this southern idea...

BUMMER.>>><<<

Anonymous said...

I just don't understand why here in Laf., when we have a snowstorm forecast for us, it pulls to the north towards Chicago...and then what do you know...we need it to pull north onto us and it just can't seem to do it...the one time we needed it the other way around, it wouldn't happen........I guess Laf. is now a NO SNOWSTORM AREA...>>>the snowstorms are allowed to go north, they are allowed to go south...but by some reason, they cannot and will not hit Laf...

Again, I just don't get it...we still support you Mike though!

Anonymous said...

Maybe February will bring is something, but then it gets too late, weather will start to shifting more to spring.

Anonymous said...

Yea same here I just don't see anyway that the system would be able to shift to the north like predicted. -Dustin Monon

Anonymous said...

Being optimistic and it tracks north we would only be looking at 2-4" no way for 8". 2-4 would good enough to take daughter sledding for the first time :-)

Anonymous said...

Didn't we miss a few systems last year because they didn't track north? Also the snow in Illinois right now is south of the Lafayette line

Anonymous said...

Want to go on a ride on the roller coaster? Wheeeee!!! Its like we are riding the Beast at Kings Island!

haha!

Anonymous said...

Ya I'll give you all what I'M looking at.

I don't think mikes forecast is wrong. He did call for 3" to 6" inch range as well as I have for the past two days. Now 3" to 6" means no less the 3 now more then 6 So anything in the middle is right on we have to remember that! I only say this because my sister gets all pumped up thinking it is a for sure six inches. lol.

But I do still like the 3" to 6" range. I will stick with it.

Starting later on Monday night with a few flurries to showers then the main part of the system Tuesday. And then will start to tapper off by Wednesday.

Now I would also like to point out that this system only has to go about another 100 miles north for us to see more snow yet so this is what we need to watch and remember.

Take a look at today! Models showed less then an inch and we ended up with and inch and in some areas a little more. This is why with it still being a day and a half out we do not give up and call it over.

Anyone in Indiana knows it is not over till it is over. And we got time. I do however think an inch is to low! I will keep watching it closely but I do still think the kids will have some good snow to get out and play!

Thats the latest as of 9:23pm.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Actually it does look like L-town could see some more light snow showers even the NWS put it in the forecast.

Anonymous said...

^^light snow showers tonight^^-Correction

Anonymous said...

Bring on tghe snow!!Got the kids out to sled for there first time and I even went down too lol. I was great!!

Anonymous said...

Anything under 6 inches isn't a snow storm and that is what was predicted in earlier blogs. So whether we get an inch, 1-3, 2-4, or 3-6 we wont get that snow storm that many want. You can't sugar coat it any other way.

As others have said. The weather will do what it wants.

Anonymous said...

accu weather now has Laf. 5.1 inch range for the few days..

Anonymous said...

If I recall right Mike said 3" to 6" inches with a ((chance)) for 6" to 8" That was the goal.

But it looks like 3" to 6" is still forecasted.

Anonymous said...

Yep Accuweather has 4.9inches for monon so that is a change. ^_^ -Dustin Monon

I have been looking through the latest model runs and I still as of now like the 3" to 6" inch range. I know a lot of others are not calling for this but I have been for the past few days as well as Mike has and I will stick by my forecast.

The thing we need to remamber and watch closely with this system is it has been moving north more and more every day little by little. And it only needs to go around 100 miles more north to up our snowfall amunts again. This is why we will have to keep a close watch on it. I know if you pull up a model it will show the moisture to our south but if we think about it! We have seen a few systems come from the gulf this winter and they all went more north then the models showed. However we did not see it fall as snow for our temperatures where to warm. This time anything that falls will be in the way of snow. Which I think is great news. As well as I'M sure you all do.

All this is expected to start today ((Monday Night)) as flurries and really take off by Tuesday and start to tapper off by later on Wednesday.

If we see this system track more north then amounts will go up still for now we will keep it between 3" and 6" inches. There is still a day and a half to go so in no way should we call it over. Not in the least bit.

I'M sure mike and all even I will keep everybody posted as the day goes and we should all be ready for anything.

Thanks Justin, that keeps me going, I was getting worried. I'll keep the faith, you guys know what is going on more than I!! I have noticed as of late, more and more people are slowly increasing their amounts. I hope this holds true. I just want a nice heavy snow on Tuesday!! Keep up the good work!!

I am officially requesting that TIPTON CO be added to the WLFI viewing area. There is Clinton Co to my west....Howard Co to my north....I want my county included. Tipton Co mirrors your viewing area's weather more so than Indy....please consider!

Accuweather is saying 3.2 for Lafayette, I don't think they know what they are doing, hopefully it goes up again because they just dropped it. It was at 4.7 earlier!!

Chris i am with u 12-18 inches would be great.

Is everyone still sleeping!!! C'mon its due day!

Still up over here !!

1-2 inches of snow now :( sigh

Duped again:(

Anonymous said...

stephani davis is saying 1-2 inches Justin are you still saying 3-6 inches????.

Anonymous said...

The weather man for WNDU in South Bend stated this morning, that this storm needs to be watched closely as the track is constantly changing. Both stations are predicting heavy snow for areas to the south, but once again, I don't know what they mean by south.

It was such a pleasant, "fast" drive from Rochester to Royal Center this morning. The roads were clear and dry!!!!

I thought Stefanie said for day day 1-3 inces then more tonight and some tomorrow!

Anonymous said...

When we add an inch or two with three or so systems we could well end up with 6 inches for the week. The snow lovers are still looking the the big one, 6 inches or more with one snow. And it could happen with this system.

Anonymous said...

And the winter storm watch creeps further north!! Now includes Indianapolis.....we are not THAT far away ....and considering that the watch has come north 2-3 counties each forecast run.....I still think we are OK. I WANT TO HEAR FROM MIKE!!!!

What you all need to remember about forecasting, whether it be rain or snow, is IF the approaching system shifts by as little as 50 miles either way, it changes the forecast drastically for any given area.

This from someone who has been watching wx longer than most of you have been alive :-) I am thankful for the modern technology that just gets better adn better :-) Thanks, MIKE!!!

Old weathermen never die...they just ...what??

Anonymous said...

I think you jumped the gun MIke

Anonymous said...

It look like it is every so slightly shifting north. Warnings are still way south. Not sure if they have tracked further north. But looking at some maps your right MA if it tracks about 50-100 miles north we will be the bulls eye.

Anonymous said...

How much snow is monticello going to get hopefully enough to plow. And i hope you aint wrong about this prediction

Anonymous said...

Remember Mike's forecast was for Lafayette to be in the bulls eye. If it isn't he is wrong. There's nothing wrong with being wrong. It happens every day to meteorologist across the country and us arm chair forecasters as well. You win some and you lose some. This game isn't over yet so we don't know the results.

Anonymous said...

I just saw a forcast on line and it says...2-4 in but the line is very very close to us to get the 4-6. Everyone knows that weather is predicting....not a given. geesh guys give them a break

I still think Mike will be right on with this one. The warnings and watches keep creeping closer and closer to the WLFI viewing area.

Anonymous said...

We so need an update from Mike. I know he is probably really busy.

Anonymous said...

We need a Mike Prangley Blogger Poster that we can all sign and send him for all his hard work. Actually all the weather employees at WLFI do a great job. We forget that Mike is just 1 of the many that work hard to keep us safe. Mike has a love and a passion for this stuff just as the rest of us do. We also have to remember that Mike loves his family and deserves time with them as well. There are not many like Mike in the weather world so IF he does not hit this one on the nail head so be it. He has kept us all safe for many years. Mike for President!!

Accuweather has Warren County in the 3-6 in range as of right now and is saying 4.2 inches over the next few days, so I'm optimistic. The advisories keep moving north. Last night they weren't in Vigo county, now they are. The county to my west is Vermillion, IL and it is under a watch so I think we will be fine...I hope. Can't wait to hear from you Mike!!

Anonymous said...

I still like 3" to 6" and I will keep with it!

One model last night was forecasting south and now has showed it moved more north like was expected. I feel no need to give up on this system and I still feel we will Hit our goal between 3" and 6" inches.

Mary anne is very right about systems moving 50 miles north west south anyway and it will change a forecast. we need to watch this system very closely.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

And how this is going to work so you all know is this is a final snowfall total. The system will start later on tonight and go through Tuesdaty and start to tapper off by around Wednesday afternoon.

SO as the final I really feel good about the 3" to 6" inch range.

Most of the models I looked at show the system moving further North. Not far enough yet to be in the heaviest snow, but it aint over tell its over.

Anonymous said...

That is right about the models but remember the system can move 100 to 150 mile more north then what the models show us!

So the more the models move the more the system.

Justin.

It sure looks like the storm will come in two waves...the first beginning tonight and the second Tues aftn/evening...

Northward push continues!!!

where is mike looks like he is wrong again 1-2 inches is a far cry from 6-8

Anonymous said...

I fully expect with the next forecast....we will either be put in a Winter Storm Watch...or a Winter Weather Adv. I am not sure that a Winter Storm Warning will be forthcoming for any area...may be a Heavy Snow Warning....not much wind....BUT...if they think some ice will mix in...a WSWarning may be right on....

I don't get why people are so down about it. It hasn't even happened yet! It ain't over till it's over. Then you can complain if he is wrong. And even if he is wrong, HELLO.. it's Indiana weather we are talking about. Mother nature will do as she pleases.

I'm still rooting for Mike's forecast!

Anonymous said...

Hey there I just wanted to let you all know the remington is not seeing snowfall at this time for it is really light and just to the north of then! Some radars like from Intellicast show more snow then whats hitting the ground.

We do have the moisture for snow todat. And I can already see the moisture starting to build down in Oklahoma, And Arkansas,. And it is currently moving North North East, Which is a good sign at this time for snow.

We will keep watching things closely and by no means should anyone be calling this system over.

Justin.

Anonymous said...

Hey Justin,

I really like what I am seeing. The moisture rolling up from the gulf and the cold is helping lift all of that up to us. Woo Hoo could be a great night. I will say this where ever it unloads will be hammered. william

Anonymous said...

I am a snow plow drive and with this snow i would like to address this to the people that think because we are heavier than cars that we can go faster. We cant and please stay back atleast 200 to 300 ft . And people please don't be tryin to pass us or follow real close that puts us in danger and as yell as you thank u. Now bring on the overtime

Anonymous said...

Want another good sign??? Areas south and south east of Indy may have to worry about FZR/sleet!! EXCELLENT news for us!!! If we can this low to track right along the Ohio River....we are set!!! (I personally think that there will be more than enough moisture up this way..) We will be good!!

To the snow plow driver Thank you for what you do. I have many friends that drive plows. I am also an EMT and have seen what happens to people when they do not heed the warnings.

iah here guys, justin you still thuinking white county will get any of this,,,,Becky

Anonymous said...

I do.

Another thing I will point out is the snow flurries we are looking for today the models last night had them right through Lafayette.

However if we look at the radars most of that is staying to our north. Which means that is moved around 50 to 100 miles north then what the models showed us last night.

This makes me think even more that we will see the main system move north. Also if we look at the current radar you will see the moisture to our south and west around Oklahoma, and arkansas, is building and currently moving north north east which I feel is a good sign for us to see snow.

Again I will keep 3" to 6" and if needed we can add later.

Justin.

Isnt there a song from the 50's and 60's about sleepless days and sleepless nights? or is is wasted days and sleepless nights. Kinda fits here. Up all day waiting and up all night following it and up all the next day talking about it. I love this. Snow Snow Snow Snow.

I am part of the espotter network for the NWS out of chicago and like the way that map gives you a good look at everything. This is a great thunderstorm/tornado map somtimes as well.

I plan on taking a nap sometime today so I can be up when this thing starts.

A lot of hype over a storm that will be lucky to drop 3 inches of snow.

William said...

I think it was 2 years ago we had a pretty good storm comming in and I had an old car parked out in the barn lot. I watched the snow and wind slowly build a drift to the top of the car. I think when I measured the drift it was over 5' tall. Took my backhoe to pull the car out. The kids loved to sled down it though. Did not do any good to the snowmobile that I tried to jump it with. LOL but we did have fun.

weather.com showing most of IN 3-6 with central-southern IN 6-12 inches. looks like the system is starting to change some forecasts by moving northward.
