A Winter Wonderland Before Our Icy Coating

Hey Mike,

Its Brow again (aka Jason Harrison)and I have another weather pic for you. This was taken at 4:00pm in Monticello and I was experimenting with Tilt Shift photography...they look like little toys don't they? :) Just thought you could use that on your blog for some fun.

Thanks Brow! I love the picture and even learned a thing or two. Stay safe when the freezing drizzle arrives this evening.

Diana Marion in Monticello shows us a winter wonderland with two inches of snow in Monticello before all was said and done! Justin New shows road conditions around the area before the freezing drizzle. This is why our winter weather advisory will continue through 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Temperatures hovering near 20 will not help matters.

3:39 p.m. Heaviest Snow over for Tippecanoe County

I took a quick break from the models and radars and just salted down the sidewalks outside WLFI. We are in at .80" of snow. It is very slippery outside. The good news is this snow is so light and fluffy you can even use a broom to clear it out of the way. Justin New gave us a snow to liquid ratio of an amazing 20 to 25 to 1. This means if we had an inch of precipitation we would have had about two feet of snow.

I see us receiving less than .10" of snow and ice as we head through the rest of today and tonight as the very weak area of low pressure moves right over us by 7 p.m. This will dry slot our area so anything that does fall will be light. But unfortunately when we are talking freezing drizzle it is a big deal. It will be just enough to keep travel hazardous. Be careful out there. You can see Justin's picture of the roads and this is before we have freezing drizzle in the mix tonight.

2:48 p.m. Snow Quickly Lifting North

We already have reports of a half-inch to one inch of snow. Things look on track for amounts to be near an inch in Lafayette with a 2 inch band in our far northern counties. So be careful on the roadways. The heaviest snow will be between now and 4 p.m. and then we will watch for freezing drizzle to move in during the evening for Lafayette. Areas farther north will see bands of snow last a little longer.

It is slippery out there! Just got off of work, the kids at school were having a blast rolling around in the snow! Glad this is a light dry snow, for I know I would have been wacked by a snowball LOL!

The road crews are out, and working hard sanding and salting , but not helping much at this time.

If all just would take it slow driving, so many in such a hurry!

Be safe and do take it slow! If you need to go out tonight!

LOL Justin, I am not a man so I dont let the snot freeze, I hope for the Kids sake there will be a school delay if the weather stays as is. Not fun for them waiting at bus stop; But its all about their safty. The schools will call if they feel it is for the best!

Thanks Teri,

I have Three quarters of an inch right on the nose! No more no less at this time! I to have the freezing drizzle. Really light at this time! Nothing is really thick on my gate. I don't even think there is a tenth of an inch yet!
Still slick!!

Yep Justin, a thin coating of ice, but thick enough to make it slick and a mess on cars!

Is a light drizzle at this time. I can hear the branches and lines crackling. My pine tree branches are drooping, prob. from the snow and the heavy burst of ice pellets we had:(

It's calming down here in West Lafayette. But morning travel to work is still going to be dangerous! I've seen the road crews are still out there cleaning the roads and putting down salt. I think the worst is over! I wish we had more snow coming! Let's just hope the forecast stays the same for Sunday! Let it snow!

We need more snow. this is winter it is supposed to snow. it looks great out there. Be safe and enjoy it, this is what the season is about. Hopefully the highs near the end of the week dont melt this snow. 11 more inches is needed to meet mikes forecast of 15-20 for december. lets go mother nature.
