Mike,

As a lifelong Lafayette resident, your enthusiasm for our weather patterns, especially the winter snow storms, is really appreciated. You add an element of excitement to our weather issues which makes our "mundane" outlook much more interesting. We really appreciate your excitement and passion for your job and the interest it adds to our daily news watching. You are truly one of the unique people who absolutely love your job and share that passion with your audience, and we just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate having you as part of our news community. Thank you.

Yeah, I shouldn't have said you were teasing, but more along the lines of optimistic.
Like me, you saw the model and got "enthusiastic" with your interpretation.

There is nothing close to 10.5" here on the south side. I'd say it's more like 4 or 6 inches.
[Insert inappropriate Michael Scott quote here]

The drifts are about a foot or two high, but that's it. Nothing to affect my activity, but enough that the rest of the drivers will be grandma mode.

I SECOND THAT! Phooey to all those mean-spirited people who can only criticize. Guess Mike was right after all! Hooray!

This is an interesting blog. You're providing a valuable service to the people in this area. Have you checked what's happening in Southern Manitoba lately? We're getting the worst winter in years. I suppose we were due one. The previous five or so years have been a beach. Have a good day.

I don't know where "Buzz" lives on the south side, but I live on the south side also and got about 10" of snow. Also, I have 3 ft. drifts in my yard. Thank you Mike and the team for keeping us updated and for those LONG hours you have put in. Keep up the good work

Mike, I am following you closely from FL as my husband travels back and forth every week. Thank you for your accurate and enthusiastic coverage!

I agree with the south side numbers--we live 7 or 8
miles south of town and
we have a very strong 10"
with 2-3 foot drifts

So how DO you measure snowfall in inches, anyway, when the wind is blowing like this? I live in SW Clinton County on farm with little to block the wind. I look out and can see patches of grass where the wind has scoured the snow away. And because of this, I also have some pretty large drifts, and a laborious walk to the barn. But I'd have no way of knowing how much snow we really got!

I am SOO happy to see the bulk of posters are positive and giving Mike his due instead of bashing his forecasting. Mike does a WONDERFUL job and is very dedicated to his work. TOM SKILLING didn't see this coming, either! If you don't know TS you don't know weather :-)

THANKS, MIKE and WLFI team!

Mary Anne in Remington

My average of several places in the yard brings between 7.5 and 8 inches snow. Peak wind gust was 26 mph at 7:00 this morning.

Good morning. Does anyone have any idea how many inches of snow areas of Newton County (Brook/Kentland areas) received? Being in the boonies we don't see "numbers" reported very often. We got a nice amount of snow but nothing compared to what I grew up with as a kid in the 60's and 70's in Crown Point. All the same, it is very pretty....and I LOVE IT!! Also, I log into Mike's report online since we don't get WLFI where I live (darn)...only Chicago.

There is not 7.5 inches in Frankfort unless you are measuring drifts..same goes for 10.5 in Lafayette. There was only 2 inches of snow in Frankfort at 4 this morning and if the drifting started at that time, how do you accurately measure it?
